Vision your assessment is way off. Most of the space from her shoulder to the harness is created when she sits in the harness and adjust her hips after opening. not to mention the still is taken in a hard turn. I would say 2 to 4 inches of space above the shoulder is normal during canopy flight. Lissette is sitting right where I like my passengers to sit and not in a uncomfortable forward leaning position because the diagonals were pulled to tight while sitting down in the plane. I'm sure your way works for you and I can tell you my way has worked well for over 9000 tandems and most student who have jumped with me and other instructors much prefer jumping with me. They often say they feel more secure in the harness and the harness is MUCH more comfortable during canopy ride and landing. If you are ever in Coleman Florida lets take a few side by side and see how it goes. Uncle/GrandPapa Whit Unico Rodriguez # 245 Muff Brother # 2421

Dave 235lbs http://youtu.be/aWB-6lUde9I Take your pick Im always open for suggestions. I do make small adjustments on the top if needed after hook up but never more than 2" Yes I fit the legs to thick people on the ground and do not get any more movement than the guys who tighten them everything up before exit. I make them give a really wide stance and place the harness in their crotch and make it firm. If they sink far enough down in a properly fitted harness that it is dangerous they were probably to big to safely skydive in the first place. I agree Dokeman. The passenger should be ready to Skydive when they board the plane. I see way too many TI's tightening the harness to excess prior to exit. Then complain because their student goes fetal. This is gear fear in my opinion. They do not trust the properly fitted harness will do its job. Of course there are those as Peek mentioned that DO NOT properly fit the harness before boarding and this is just a foolish practice and needs to be addressed as well. As far as the manual goes it does what it needs in giving the basic adjustment principles for the harness and if you are doing tandems you really should be able to problem solve each application of the harness from the information supplied. If you cant then maybe tandem Instructor is the wrong title for you. Uncle/GrandPapa Whit Unico Rodriguez # 245 Muff Brother # 2421

I believe the excess line on the stowed line is to be pulled threw the ring and stowed below the ring on the back of the riser. This is to eliminate any chance of the excess line being caught or pinched between the riser and ring once there is tension on the lines making it difficult to extract the toggle and release the brake. It sounds like you have been properly stowing the brakes. At least this is how I was taught on Sigmas and have done for the last 15 years. Above 10kts I will sit down if there are gust of more than 7kts. I will jump in 20kts if it is clean and steady and I have some weight.. No 95 pounders.. Over the years I have jumped in much higher winds and gust and pressured TI's to do the same. Now that Im older and wiser (yeah right) I leave it to the group to decide. If one sits down Ill sit down with them. Sometimes I forget just how comfortable I am doing tandems and need a green horn to remind me this shit is dangerous. We set a 7 kt threshold for gust and have the S&TA check it with a wind meter. if gust are over 7kts everyone sits down. Having seen a tandem pair drug a half mile down a runway and both needing medical attention and seeing another TI break his back in 7 to 12 kt gust it just isn't worth it to jump in higher wind conditions. Set 400 and 366 are shit for unstable air Sigma 2 340's are my favorite. 9000+ tandems on Vector2's Sigma's and Strong's. Uncle/GrandPapa Whit Unico Rodriguez # 245 Muff Brother # 2421

Contact Mark Procos at UPT or Jay Stokes. They will know who has it and have contact info. There is a Sigma Harness that has been modified to be like a sack that has worked really well for someone as you described. No legs or stumps to attach the harness. Sign in plane warning students to be hooked up?
douwanto replied to pchapman's topic in Tandem Skydiving
+1 TK Including the student in the last safety check is one of the best things a TI can do in their safety procedure. It makes the student feel safe and shows a measure of professionalism. Our instructors are required to say to the student" ok We are going to do a safety check. Ready? " Then proceed with a verbal safety check. The safety check is mandatory and including the student is just gravy for them. Uncle/GrandPapa Whit Unico Rodriguez # 245 Muff Brother # 2421 -

General thoughts on kids being able to do a Tandem
douwanto replied to promise5's topic in Tandem Skydiving
That was in reference to comments concerning Mentally challenged and developmentally delayed persons who may choose to skydive... Most times they have the same or better understanding of fear and danger. Or their guardian or parent has the responsibility to make those choices as well parents should and do decide what risk level is acceptable for their children. If you cant handle the task of Jumping with these people then move out of the way and let someone who can enjoy sharing with them. Judging them and deciding for them is not your place... General thoughts on kids being able to do a Tandem
douwanto replied to promise5's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Your comments are Retarded... We as parents allow our children to participate in activities every day they cant possibly realize the true danger of.. For example Bike riding, Skate Boarding, swimming, tree climbing, sking, snowboarding, riding with mom, dad, friends, on the road with others who may be drunk or high.... Kids who learn early are more adapt and fully aware than most adults... If you have any question about that Just Look at Rook Nelson who was exposed to the sky by his loving father before most of you would allow your babies off the tit... Ive taken a few children in Mexico and they were fun and excited... AND much better passengers than most adults. I have also taken Mentally challenged and developmentally delayed persons who chose to skydive and the were AWESOME as well. Who the heck do you think you are to say you can judge better than them weather or not they should skydive?? Seems pretty damn arrogant that you are all powerful... Seems like someone might want to assess your abilities some day and declare you not capable. Ive never once even heard of a child almost getting hurt while skydiving unless it was one of those crazy Mullins boys who started after they were Like 12 or something.. damn lucky kids I think..
