Hey Marine, I don't think the military wants you to pack their chutes!!! Gus Marinho
  4. Hi Shlomo, Thanks for clarifyng this important issue. I have to confess that I wasn't aware of this problem, but I also think that this situation could be avoid if the manufacturer would informed the rigging community. Now that we know about it, it comes to my mind, what's the procedure when you receive a javelin for a normal reserve repack that had the RSL removed! I'd like to hear from everybody and also from the manufacturer and the FAA. I'll also contact the FAA to ask if I still can use them as a guide because the comments of masterrigger1: "regional ruling by a very non-caring inspector out there in colorado". It means to me that the FAA as the authority of the law is ruling by regional and personal interpretations. Well, I hope not! Cheers, Gus Marinho
  5. Safety first! In our company is mandatory to have protective glasses when using a sewing machine or any equipment. This includes for visitors too. We also have signs saying that. Cheers, Gus Marinho
  6. Hi, Let me try to help you: -lines attached to the canopy are called cascades lines or upper steering lines. -Between cascade line and the ones you attach the toggles are called lower steering lines. -And finally, the ones attached to the toggle are called brake to toggles. So wich one is out of trim? The cascade lines should not be same length. In your case, a triathlon 160, the inboard line shoud be 6" longer. Don't let anybody work in your canopy until you have contact the manufacturer. You paid for it!! Cheers, Gus Marinho

  8. Hi, It's a piece of a cake job if the senior/master rigger has a straight, a zizzag and a double needle machine. Just leave the webbing the way it is. If you decide to sell your gear one day, the leg pad can be replaced for a longer one. At our shop, I'd charge US$60.00 for both. It takes an hour to measure you and get the job done. You pretty much can find somebody to do this job in your country. Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Parachute Sales & Service Gus Marinho
  9. Hi, First step: Contact the manufacturer and tell them your concerns! Second step: Talk with your local dealer or whoever sold it to you. You paid for it, simple like that! If you not happy, they should take care of it. I've sold over 30 Icons and we never had a problem with it. By the way, parapack is not abrasion resistant as cordura fabrica. The only property of parapack is the shiny looking. Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho

  13. This is your true wisdom. Everybody should have a particular technique to pack a chute, or having problem with them. Or you can call it experience... Well said Szelei I normally say to people that are learning to pack that I prefer to pack and deal with a brand new canopy than an old one. It's a good feeling to know you have a good chute over your head Blue skies and be safe, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  14. Come on Ian & Szelei, I just said what I see here and different DZ's all the times. Tell me what was the first thing you heard about packing a brand new canopy in the bag!!!! I had people here that never skydive before and learned to pack a canopy and guess what, they put the canopy in the bag in the first time without any problem. It's a fact that people say that to beginners. Now, if you want me to teach you how to pack, it's not gonna be the same as your friend right beside you. Everybody has a particular technique to pack a chute. Just watch your comments and use common sense dude!!! Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  15. Hi, The easiest part of packing a canopy is to put the canopy in D-Bag! Let me explain why! One of the first thing you hear in a drop zone in relation of packing a canopy is how hard is to put the canopy in the bag. Not true!! This is actually your brain recording somebody's frustation and your automatically think that it will happen to you too. True!! I've teaching a lot of beginners and people that never skydived before as well. So we can put as a 2 groups of people: 1-Beginners that were exposures to that comment above. 2-People that want to get a part-time job packing parachutes. You know how hard it is to find a reliable packer!!!! The group 2 never got exposured to that frustation comment from the group 1. So they don't have any problem to put "any" canopy in the bag. I'm pretty sure you already heard that comment. That's why you're asking maybe, but remember, the easiest part of a packing job is to put the canopy in the bag. It's all mental so have fun packing your gear for the next load. Remember, they'll not wait for you!!!!! Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  16. I agree. My point was just that if I have recommended a customer get his canopy relined, I've already inspected it -- so he'll pay the inspection fee twice by sending his canopy to PD. Mark ------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Mark, No matter who inspected the canopy, the manufacturer, or whoever is relining the canopy, will perform a complete inspection on it. Here is how our company perform an inspection for lines trim. It's quick and easy! Spectra line Outboard line with inboard center cell line together (A1 & A5/A4) Less then 2" difference is ok Between 2 and 3" "should" be relined Over 3" "must" be relined It means, as part of our company normal inspection procedures when packing a reserve, we also inspect a few more components of the gear and also check the lines trim of the main canopy. We give a good attention to the brake lines also. Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  17. Kanada, Let me give an example how things can go bad when you have people, like masterrigger1 mentioned, without any knowledge performing rigging work. I have a customer that had his triathlon brake lines replaced and the inboard attachment brake modification done(with vectran line=wrong). After complaining about funky openings, he finally had one that caused his canopy to almost split in half and off course he had to cut away. After talk with the manufacturer service department, they asked who the heck did do this mod?? End of the story: 01 cut away and $895.00 in expenses for repair and lost parts. So like masterrigger1 said, there are only a few people that can perform this job, but I still stay on my opinion that only manufacturers are the right one for the jobs. For example, I have a few canopies to be relined(triathlon, vengeance, FX and a tandem) and I already ordered the lines from the manufacturer I had installed a lot of linesets and so far without any problem. I hope it never happens to me because it could be very, very embarassing. Just think about it, be smart and use common sense. Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  18. Hi Kanada, My personal opinion, don't ever buy any line set made from anyone than the manufacturer. Here is the deal: A person went to college to become, let's say, an aeronautical engineer. After he graduated, he/she went to work for a canopy manufacturer for years learning the how, what is called the DDT process, to DESIGN, DEVELOP AND TEST. Now, someone with a rigging license tells you that he can make a line set because maybe he has the specifications for your canopy. Specifications do not mean DEVELOPMENT! If the canopy flies great, it does not mean TESTING! Master rigger does not mean DESIGNER! Even if manufacturers can make mistakes, they still have a whole process like quality control and specific procedures like room temperature, humidity, etc. So $200.00 is a good price and good for piece of mind that we look for when we leave the door. I hope these personal comments help you! Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  19. What's up Jake?!?!?!? Yes, it is, but the only old thing on that picture is the skymonkey #1 I like that picture a lot! Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  20. Hi Newguy, Jordan is right! The closest Dz from Concord is Skydive Carolina. Hey Jordan, what's up man???? Have your wife told you how good she's doing on our rigging school?? If not, she's doing very good. You can be very proud of it!!! Be safe over there and see you soon. Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  21. Congratulations Terry, well done!!! I got all my certificates from him too. Keep it up & Cheers!!! Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  22. Hi Kelly, How's going man?? Here is the info you need. http://www.tac-tenn.com/ Call me when you have a chance. We need to talk about the binder and about the WFFC 2006! Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  23. I agree to some extent. But with the controlled copy( not available to everyone) of the oral and practical rigger exam that I have here, the Performance Standard states of what and how the rigger is to perform his or her duties. MEL Not true! The parachute rigger practical test standards are available to anyone! -The FAA has developed this practical test book as a standard to be used by FAA inspectors and DPREs when conducting parachute rigger practical test. Instructors are expected to use this book when preparing applicants for the practical test. "Applicants should be familiar with this book and refer to these standards during their training". I have 3 copies of this book here for whoever is interested or you can download it from the regulatory support division, AFS-600, web site at http://afs600.faa.gov. Now, besides all this talking, common sense has prevailed and it just shows that whatever title or position you have, educate people is the best path! All my rigging tests were done with Dave Dewolf. He never imposed me anything about rigging or laws, instead he educated me and showed me the right thing. It just demonstrate to me that there are 2 kind of people: Liars and believers I'm a believer, but the only difference is that I can make my own decision if it's true or not and have the balls to live with! I'm very busy at my rigging loft working 7 days a week. I don't have the time to spend on my computer, so feel free to continue debating or imposing things that really doesn't make any difference. Cheers, Gus Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  24. Hi Terri, Here is web site for the company. I bought my harness machine from them and they are pretty good! http://www.sewingmachinesales.com/ Talk with daren or Tracy! Cheers, "Gus" Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
  25. Just have common sense! If you don't have a manual, get one and get all the information you need to pack yours or anybody's reserve. At our company, we pretty much have all the manuals we need to pack any reserve on the market. If there is any question, we just contact the manufacturer and ask for their guidance. It's very common to see this kind of problem! just remember: Have a manual on file, Contact manufacturer, And finally, have fun! As I said a long time ago, it's not about what the law says, but your interpretation of the law and how you comply with it! Cheers, Augusto Marinho Rigging Solutions Gus Marinho
