1st time in a plane again...and not jumping...
oldnewbie replied to VanillaSkyGirl's topic in The Bonfire
My biggest problem flying commercial now is I keep looking at my altimeter (which i don't have on) After about 10 minutes,(time to get ready on an otter ride) i start getting nervous, keep looking at the altimeter that isn't there, thinking, ok, were almost to 13,500, its time to do my last gear check. -
Now why would they send him a paragear catalog, they didn't send me one!!!! Dang, if he gets one, i'm going to feel really bad!! And i actually did want a catalog.

Head congestion before jumping
oldnewbie replied to Muenkel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have the same problem (maybe). There is allegra, and allegra D. Some people have sleeping problems with allegra D, or the 2 pills a day allegra. They also have one a day allegra (no sleeping problems). Prescription only. There is claritin (many different kinds) which some people think works better, and some think it isn't as good as allegra. Claritin can be bought over the counter, however if you have prescription coverage, there is a claritin (maybe a different name) that you can get. The floanase is also very very good, Prescription only. Since i'm trying to make a short story long, i'll continue!!!lol I went to the ear/nose/throat specialist for this problem. He said to take the medication all the time, that way your sinuses etc won't become inflamed. He said to take allegra for a couple of months, then switch to claritin etc in conjuntion with the flanase. He also told me that this will NOT hurt my ears permanate if i skydive. Since January i have been doing this, and everything was fine until i quit taking the allegra (i ran out and was too lazy to get another script for more) and my allergies are so bad right now that my ears and sinus are killing me. I guess i should have taken his advice and stuck with it!! -
Prayers to all of your family and yourself!!

Many states regulate the drives on truck for tank trucks (gas), multiple trailers, buses etc.. Most of these can be driven by taking a class and passing a test. Each one of those takes a different endorsement. At one time (it might still be) in order to drive a truck crosscountry, you needed to be 21 years of age, but only 18 to drive in the state. The determining factor was the insurance that in many states you MUST have. A truck driver with under 5 years of experience couldn't even get a job with a good company becuase of the increased insurance cost. Motorcycles which also require an endorsement. Many states require insurance for these. Have you checked out the price on insurance on a CROTCH ROCKET. Well, a 16 year old i know just bought one and the insurance was $6,000 for 6 months. That was the cheapest he could get. This means yes, he can legally drive a motorcycle, but no, he cannot drive it because the insurance companies know the risk of him crashing with his limited knowledge. (And the cost of insuring a new corvette for an 18 year old is $8,000 a year, so he really cannot drive this either until he gets more experience and proves he can drive normally and safely) I'm not sure this relates to skydiving, but is just food for thought, not an opinion on anything!!

What happened to your mustang??? (ass-u-ming )

You think your a pathetic loser, how about me!!! I'm just too damn cheap to go. I have to find a home dropzone, and i have to rent gear, and since i havn't gone in so long,(because i'm too cheap and the weather sucked) i have to i guess pay somebody to jump with me to get current. So that provides me with an excuse not to go until i get more time to jump lots each day on the rented gear. It isn't like i can't afford it either, I'm just a cheap bastard!!!

What do your parents think of your skydiving?
oldnewbie replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My parents live in Casa Grande, five miles from SDA. The first time i went to visit them, the next morning they fed me, drove me to eloy, said *gosh, you like flying, why don't you try this*. What were my parents trying to tell me????? -
Would you like to guess how I know the answer to that question!!!!! Same car, 15 or more years ago, same problem (except i left the front plug in, since real cars only have ONE plug in them). Heck,i finally had to raise the whole car up before I actually looked at the oil pan and saw that. GEEZZZ, and people wonder why i prefer to work on corvettes!! And watch out what you offer on the beer, i might take you up on it, if you happen to be at Eloy at Xmas time!!! I'm glad I could help

I think its 5 quarts. Is this the oil pan with two oil drain plugs in it??? One in the front of the pan, and one in the back??? If it is, many people only pull one drain bolt out, and leave lots of oil still in the pan. Then they fill with 5 quarts, and its way too full!! My books are at work, so I can't get the exact figure. but i am pretty sure that is it!!

pressure problems with ear 2 days after jumping
oldnewbie replied to poohbeer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have a similar problem. It seems like i can't clean my ears, more the right than the left. I went to an *ears, nose, throat* specialist and he claims that it is just allergies. He told me to always, even when not having symptoms of allergies to take *allegra, and a nasil spray for allergies* There was some wax in the ear, which he took out, and he said my ears were very red etc.. It seems to help. but go to the doctors, you might have something very very bad!! -
Hi Diverdrive. I just wanted to comment about the *preaching to the choir* comment that you made. Maybe this is often true, but not always!! Reading the posts about this subject is education, and for some of us, it is a great education. Four months ago i was going back to the dropzone to jump where i took my lessons at (had 25 jumps). I was reading the posts from dropzone.com and the topic was canopy control lessons. I decided to take these lessons when i got to the dropzone.

Since I am also looking for a used rig, I asked lots of people how this should be done. Most of the people that i asked said to have the rig sent to a rigger. A check/money order will also be sent to the rigger from the buyer. The rigger will inspect the rig and give a report to the buyer. If the buyer agrees to buy the rig, the rigger sends the check to the seller. When the check/money order clear the sellers bank, the rig is sent to the seller. The rigger is acting as a *disinterested* third party. I guess the rigger should probably be somebody that both parties agree to.

I've searched the forums, looked everywhere i could, but i cannot find any information on Articulating harnesses. What i would like to know is 1:Why do you need them (since they cost more) 2: Are they only for experienced or beginners etc. 3: What do they do that a non-articulating harness does or doesn't do etc. The reason that i am asking is that I am currently looking at a used rig (my first) and it has stainless steal and an articulating harness. Is this something that a beginner can use etc.. I have 35 jumps. The price is a good buy on a rig that is almost new, but i just don't know about the articulating harness.

I guess I need to ask this, since i have been wondering for some time now. A main you can jump 100's if not 1000's of times. Why is a reserve so fragile??
-
As usual Michele, I totally enjoyed what you have written. I have never jumped with you and any of the people that you mentioned, but I feel like I was there with you!!! Thanks for making my day better listening to your dives!!(since i didn't get to dive this weekend)

barrel rolls to check airspace before pulling
oldnewbie replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I will agree with you on this one! On the dives that i was talking about, we knew that we were the only ones anywhere around us. Yes, that wouldn't be a good idea being on your back with others in the sky near you.
