freeflysteve replied to RandomLemming's topic in Events & Places to Jump
After the attempted murder of the fish by our renowned and anonymous friend and its immaculate resuscitation after being violantly unswallowed! and our friends later food poisoning at said same establishment found somewhere else to eat!!! Joking aside had the kids for xmas and it was great. Happy new year. Steve Swooping, huh? I love that stuff ... all the flashing lights and wailing sirens ... it's very exciting! -

Same for me but on a spectre 150 loaded 1:1 Didnt close my legs!! on deployment went head down spinning really fast ,really freaky opening at least 6 twists and then the canopy flew straight, wont do that again in a hurry. Awesome video and the speed i dropped away from my wingsuit instructor was amazing, guess thats why i still deploy at 5k when winsuit flying. Swooping, huh? Where is the most beautiful place you've jumped?
freeflysteve replied to scargill's topic in Events & Places to Jump
With ESA ,Uruguay(Punta del este),Ecuador(Salinas) and this year would have been Galapagos but unfortunately nearly 100 skydivers and no plane due to politics. Still it was a very beautiful place. 150 might fit you but what size canopy are you jumping at the moment? My first bought rig had 150 spectre as advised by my AFF instructor. Even though i had after only 67 jumps downsized from 240 to 169 saffire (gradually jumping many sizes in between)my exit weight was at the time approx 150 so was 1:1 on wingloading BOY was that 150 fast!!New zp canopy etc and yes first jump did i cream in or what!! Did over 600 jumps on that 150 before i bought a sabre2 135. Still jump my 150 for wingsuit and for boogies where landing conditions a bit extreme! So for my 2 cents be careful cos its your bones that are gonna break if it goes wrong not your dz managers! Swooping, huh? Why Does the Army Use Roundies
freeflysteve replied to two40's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And i guess cos they are not as manouverable they are less likely to steer into each other and have a canopy collission especially on a night drop. Swooping, huh? I love that stuff ... all the flashing lights and wailing sirens ... it's very exciting! -

Travelling with a rig - Airline regs, etc.
freeflysteve replied to RandomLemming's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good question. I normally take my rig on as hand luggage. It gets a few looks and sometimes 4 or 5 goes in the xray plus maybe a swab or two to check for explosives!! Take your AAD card with you cos it explains the wiring system, travelled to 19 different countries with my rig as carry on. Dont forget to take off your hook knife and put it in the hold luggage, unfortunately early morning packing just before i leave has meant i have had a few confiscated!! blue skies Steve Swooping, huh? Had the same with my sabre 2 (135) but after downsizing (many jumps later) to a sabre 2 (97) dont have the problem the higher wing loading made a huge difference as the others said rear risers and all is fine great landings with a sabre 2,very responsive have fun Steve Swooping, huh? That was good. Wonder where he got his pilots license from?Maybe i shouldnt ask cos that would be as bad as his first email about Vincents company. A totally bad thread started by 4sprouts but then too many especially at xmas do produce too much wind!!!! Swooping, huh? I love that stuff ... all the flashing lights and wailing sirens ... it's very exciting!

Agree with you and Sparky, quite often i see people on flightline planning their jump or just starting to get a group together. Plan the skydive beforehand and skydive the plan. I am sure this alone would prevent quite a few stupid moments Steve

Better to get sorted on the ground than in the air. Good for the passengers,if something bad had happened after take off it would be a totally different story. Swooping, huh? I love that stuff ... all the flashing lights and wailing sirens ... it's very exciting!

Just took Scott Miller's course.
freeflysteve replied to ntrprnr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well lets hope you learnt enogh to get another 130 jumps under your belt. I took the course in January this year basic and advanced. You never can stop learning in this sport and Scott was so adaptable for all experience levels and helping fine tune what one thought they already knew. Awesome guy fantastic course. Swooping, huh? I love that stuff ... all the flashing lights and wailing sirens ... it's very exciting! -
