I have a new addition to my list of "stupid things I have done": So I start this new job. A couple of us and a manager are standing around being shown something, and something falls off a desk. I reach down to pick it up (being the helpful type), and neatly bash my forehead into the attachment end of a bit of cube material (the type that would have a couple of metal tabs sticking out) in front of everyone. Two nice bleeding scrapes on my noggin. Couldn't have looked more stupid if I tried. At least the audience was relatively small.... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

But they taste good... yeah, maybe if they are made out of jello or something.... otherwise, forget it. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

Some misconceptions (?)
crapflinger2000 replied to crapflinger2000's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have not tried this yet, and plan on getting some practice higher up. One thing that I think will work (I plan to try) is to give rear riser input via pressing outward on the rears, rather than pulling down. (this also seems to work in long spot (running with the wind) cases, as it provides a decent level of tail deflection while not tiring out your "flare" muscles). Thanks for the input, yo. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -
I would say that if you lose any more than 5 feet of altitude, you should quit the sport. Seriously, as with all of these "how much, how high, when should I" type questions... it really all just depends on the individual, the gear, the conditions, etc... I think if you keep practicing this style of turn enough, you will eventually get it optimized to fit your weight, gear, loading, needs, etc.... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

Some misconceptions (?)
crapflinger2000 replied to crapflinger2000's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yo... I am a fairly experienced swooper, but having just downsized to a 2.0 loaded Velocity from a mid range loaded Stilletto, swooping is now a completely different proposition... 1) Recovery arc - I have heard much about the "sweet spot". My image of this spot is that you time the dive and gain sufficient speed so that the canopy planes out on it's own. Frankly the only time I have ever experienced anything like this was on my St. when the brake lines were way too short and the canopy was auto-flaring. I have heard from a pretty good swooper that this does not actually happen like this. My recent (albeit limited) experience is that my velocity will continue to dive regardless and tends to confirm his assertion. I can get the dive pretty shallow with enough speed, but I think I will always have to make some input to the canopy to get is flat.... 2) If there is indeed no auto-plane feature built into my Velocity... I take it this is where the advantage of using rear risers as opposed to toggles to plane it out comes in? Please reply in Spanish. I only learned enough English to compose this post. Though I suppose if you responded in English I could have someone translate it for me. Thank you very much. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -
I was told I was a freak for standing up, so I switched to sit down style. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

I know this has morphed into a joke thread, but thankfully I was able to escape having to tell any kind of stupid joke. The meeting was worthwhile because I was able to identify that the one other dude I started with is a total dumbass. He insisted on telling a joke, and of couse he made it some French joke. A short perusal of the org chart revealed several French sounding last names. The silence he was greeted with over the conf call thingy was amazing. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

crapflinger2000 replied to rhino's topic in The Bonfire
I agree with everything you said. Of course I know every Marine is a rifleman first. I humped up and down enough hills even though I was an artillery dude... However, you are in NO place to say that I am lying when I say that I don't regard flag burning as a sin. I don't. Sorry. Just don't. Much more important shit to worry about in this country... I think we just gotta agree to disagree on this one. later __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -

The Rhino said: "If you are a Marine and you don't regard flag burning as a sin of all sins than you aren't really a Marine.. Or you just went in for a college education.." Ummm, the words came from your mouth dude... I am not trying to get in any kind of pissing contest here, but I would be very interested to know what you did in the Corps, for how long, etc... I am not asking in order to make any value judgements or anything, since as a former reservist I would be a hypocrite to say that a Motor T dude is any less valuable to the effort than an 0311 infantry guy. Just kinda wanna know where you are coming from in terms of time in, combat experience, etc. Before this becomes some reserves vs active duty debate, let me defer to the active duty side of the house in terms of overall level of hardship endured (i.e. going on a Med Float for 6 months is much more trying on the family and stuff than going down to 29 Palms for 3 weeks for sure). later __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -

However, I WOULD advocate kicking some baby ass! They would no doubt just take a big friggin crap on an American flag if you left one in close proximity to the flag for long enough. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -

Wow.... well, you just can't argue with that kind of mentality, so I won't even try.... As far as I know, having been a Marine has served me well... took some good traits away from the institution despite how I felt about my MOS... The following have served me well in the civilian world: -Take care of your troops -Be technically and tactically proficient -Accomplish the mission (I know this really comes first but hell, in civ. world we aren't charging machine guns) If Rhino says I wasn't really a Marine, I guess I must have done a really good job fooling everyone judging by my high pro and con marks, high expert rifle scores, being a platoon leader, couple of meritorious promotions, artillery BN ops chief, etc. etc. Shame on me! Must've all been bullshit. Oh well, 6 years of my life all for nothing.... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -

I don't get it.... Aren't military folks protecting every US citizen's right to protest? Why should they have to get the fuck out? Never subscribed to "America, love it or leave it." I don't see how you jump from the protesters to some asshole fragging a bunch of 101st guys like they are the same thing(I do agree that that fucker needs to pay). Not the same thing at all... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -

Was.... Disclaimer: I was a 08 reservist. Closest I came to deployment was Gulf War and some stuff with N Korea in 94 time frame... Got a couple NAMs, good cookie, blood stripes, etc... Spent first Gulf War in Ft Sill, OK in training watching the war on CNN with everyone else. But yes, having known a lot of very smart folks in boot camp who went onto become 03s in the fleet (and having dicussed it with them in boot), it is safe to say that not everyone regards flag burning as the sin of all sins... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? -

No you are wrong. Most homelessness and poverty here in the US is not the result of mental illness or "broken homes"... It is because of me. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
