Maybe, but my point is this. Any kid dying is bad...Don't blame the gun (And liberals always seem to want to blame the tool). Its not the tool folks...Its a fault of the parents. A parent leaving a gun out is not different than them leaving a poison out. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

We use an old Cable reel as an elevated creeper. It is padde don top, and has wheels on the bottom. It comes to about waist height when standing. Very nice. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

The difference is that in the AF program the student does not have an Instructor at all. It seems in this program that it is AFF with a free flown launch. That is a big difference. The AF program is like the SL of old in that respect. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Good point. I was doing Tandems one day. The winds were marginal. I caught a down draft and landed much harder than I wanted to. I quit jumping for the day. Several others bitched about me quitting early...One of them broke a students ankle later that weekend. One guy with about 1,000 jumps was trying to tell a girl with 200 that she should just get a smaller canopy to be safe in those winds. I told him that 747's can go down in turbulance...He basicly told me that I didn't know what I was talking about. i almost brought up that I had more jumps at that DZ than he had total jumps....Instead I just said I guess he was right I clearly knew nothing and walked away.... But them dying by a knife, or club is OK? I see no difference in the type of tool used. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Well if they didn't have the chance to surender, how do you know if they were still alive? I mean it takes no time to put your hands up. I mean this Heli guy was clearly trying to surrender. But they made him stand and then killed him. BIG difference. Between a team going into a building they just had to fight their way into, running into a guy that is playing dead that refuses to surrender. And a guy that was just shot out of the sky and is trying to surrender... If you can't see the CLEAR difference there is no point in continuing this. I would see your side if the US wounded had a reputation of playing dead and then attacking...Or even if the Iraqis that were killed my the Marines were trying to surrender.. But in this case you have an American that does not have a reputation of playing dead trying to surrender vs a guy that was just shooting at the Marines playing dead and having a reputation of playing possum and then killing. There really is no comparision. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

The Ice cream joke was about how DZ's look like on sectionals....Get one and have a look But you are correct about some pilots have no clue...Just like every other bias it is mostly due to ignorance. If I had a good aerobatic plane...I'd quit jumping. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds

I only have two BASE jumps...But the detail that went into them made them safer than most skydives "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
Do you have any idea how much force a PC has? No offense, but I doubt in most cases you could put enough force to do anything. Plus, most PC in tows are due to a routing error of the bridle. No amount of force will fix that. Get a PC and drive down the road. By 10 MPH I doubt you will be able to hold the PC. The RSL does not matter in this case (Unless you have an old RSL system like the old racer). The PC in tow mal is a bad mal. There are three ways to deal with it. 1. Do nothing an die...Most don't like this one 2. Pull the cutaway and reserve. 3. Pull just the reserve. #1 is not an option. #2 and #3 have both worked at times and both killed in other cases. A PC in town is kinda a crap shoot. Its stupid is what it is. Many folks have died trying shit like this. What I teach is: If ANYTHING is out...Cut away first. UNLESS you are at your hard deck. If you are at your hard deck...STOP THE FREAKING SKYDIVE (Pull silver) and deal with the stuff as best you can. The one thing you must do is stop the skydive...With a PC in tow, the best thing to do is SOMETHING. Cutaway, don't cut away.....Its a crap shoot. DO SOMETHING NOW. STOP THE SKYDIVE "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
Ron replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Think of it as the risk of something happening to cause a problem. An AAD does not lower the risk of a freefall collision. It does not lower the risk of a low pull. Just like Airbags don't lower the risk of a crash. How is that to hard to understand? If you think the risk level is so high that you need an AAD then the risk level shoudl be to high to do it at all...Youhave not reduced the risk of something bad happening on that jump by adding an AAD... What is safer? Avoiding a dangerous situation in the first place, or doing the dangerous things but relying on a good saftey device to keep you from dying? The SAFEST is to avoid the dangerous situation and then ADD the saftey device. A guy that drives carefully without airbags is much safer than the guy that runs redlights with airbags. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
Not true...Several times the main opens once the reserve fires. I teach that if you have ANYTHING out pull both. UNLESS you are below the hard deck then just stop the damn skydive.... "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Wheres Kallend and his "I don't know anyone that uses an AAD to do riskier jumps?" So far we have 24 of them. I say if you will not do that jump without an AAD....You should just not do that jump at all. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

He is where you little argument falls to shit. Both were wounded....BUT The guy in the Helicopter case was trying to SURENDER. The guy shot by the Marine was still trying to FIGHT. That makes the difference...And it is A BIG difference. One was a wounded man trying to get aid, the other was a wounded man that was still a PRESENT THREAT. Well thats easy...Just look at it...It means that airport has ice cream The thing is I see a lot of hate from pilots to skydivers....But I also see alot of hate from skydivers to pilots. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

What makes you different than them? Is their time less valuble than yours? I drive 80 miles a day. Every 24 days I drive the same 1924 miles you just talked about....Why is it OK for you to save 2.12 hours, but not me?
