  1. The problem with those list are they are 100% tourist. The The Griffith Observatory and the museum of flying might be options. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  2. Right by the LAX airport....But I have a car. Where are you now? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  3. Other than Nationals, it has been 10 years since I have been to LA. So make a list of stuff for me to do: 1. Already buying Sparky dinner. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  4. ONE good landing. Just because it can be landed does not make it the right WL for a last canopy. 4300 jumps. That guy might be able to land something like that pretty well. That does not mean a guy with 100 jumps and has neer jumped a 7 cell would. Just because it CAN be done, does not mean it should be done. 6. Well it only works if you can count the number of pages turned before they run out of time. If you can count the pages, in this case almost 4, then you know how many points they could have turned max. Why should they be allowed to score more on a rejump than the scored the first time? In this case it is pretty clear that they earned 19 points max. But they were allowed to rejump it two more times. They finaly ended up with a score higher than they earned on the first jump. How is that fair when the other teams only got one shot at a score? If you can't tell how many pages they turned, well it gets tricky. But I wonder if the French had the two points deducted according to the IPC? Cause a 23 would be a really good score....But that just proves if you give a team three jumps to practice the same jump, they will get much better. 7. To earn the points lost to video. Example, France did a 19 on the first round 4 jump. They lost 2 points due to being in the cloud, so the score they posted was a 17....But the did 19 but two were lost in the clouds. So they get an opportunity to re jump that round, but the max score would be 19. Thats totaly fair. Letting them keep doing the same jump over and over will let them go faster....So cap the rejump at the max turned on the first jump. Totally fair, vs what happens now. 8. I don't think they did anything wrong. But the rules do suck. I think that the max score allowed should have been the max score from the first jump. It was clear they stopped before the 4th 10. So the max score should not be allowed to go higher than that. Did they get the penalty points for the rejump? Fromt he rules they round would have to be deducted two points....If so, they did a 23? 9. They are heavier...But they were designed 15 years ago and that was before people really wanted light riser pressure. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  10. Agree with everthing you said...This I found funny however: " the thing wouldn't always swoop in a straight line" I bet *it* would, maybe you couldn't "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  11. The problem is the more speed flying around *always* means more speed on landing. And as for swooping...It is easier to learn to swoop with a canopy that is well within your skill set than a canopy you can barely fly. Nope. I know people with thousands of jumps that jump a 170. You could jump a 170 for the rest of your, hopefully long, career. I myself did 370 jumps on a 220 sqft, 7 cell, f111 canopy before I got a new canopy. The race to be a cool swooper does not always go to the swift, but often the ones that live long enough to get better. 12. Agreed, but it is easier to get hurt at a higher wingload. You can't make the same amount of mistakes with a higher WL and expect to be fine. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  13. Oh hell no. 1. The laterals have to be loose to pull that little trick off. This can cause a problem and loose laterals have been linked to side spins. 2. The jump is for the student, not for the TI to show off. An instructor I know did have a rating pulled years ago for this kind of thing. And then was talked to by another rig company. It is just a bad idea all around. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  14. Yep, and I hooked the fucker in on the third jump. Nice little hospital trip, but was really lucky in that I just hurt really bad and did not break anything...Even then I had to use crutches for three days. It really does pay to go slow in this sport. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

  16. I watched the video and saw about 17 points, not 21. But there was some clouds, so they could have gotten a rejump. Skyleague shows 21 points, Omniskore shows 17, WM site says 21...But nothing official from the FAI. Last I remember you were not allowed to score more on a rejump than you scored on the first jump. I could be off, but I thought that was how it worked. Edit...I checked the rules: 5.9. Rejumps. In each case of a jump where part of the Team's performance is not judgeable due to lack of video evidence, the freefall video equipment will be handed directly to the VRP for assessing the conditions and circumstances of that occurrence. 5.9.1. In the case that the VRP determines that there has been an intentional abuse of the rules by the Team, a rejump will not be granted and the Team will receive the minimum score. 5.9.2. In the case that the VRP determines that the responsibility of providing the video evidence has not been met, the Team will be given the following options: · To score the video evidence available. · To accept a rejump, in which case a penalty of 2 points will be deducted in determining the final score. So, if they did a 21...Then either they have not taken the two points off, or they really smoked that round...Like REALLY smoked that round. 17. The video person would never be allowed near a tandem of mine if he can not fly with need help. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  18. Define "the right stuff"? One real benefit to programs is a standard. That way when a person with training goes from one place to another a certain standard has been met. Hello random wazoo accusation, where in the hell did that BS come from?!?!?! Maybe you should take the blue pill next time? 19. OK, but there are levels. There is a BIG difference between driving 70 on the interstate, and a residental road....Just like there is a big difference between swooping on a hop n pop in a swoop area, and swooping in the middle of a crowd of people. One is OK, the other reckless. Anyone that thinks swooping in the middle of a crowd of people is as safe as doing a hop n pop in a seperate landing area is fooling themselves. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  20. As far as I know the hop n pop is still a valid reccurency method. But just because it worked for you, does not mean it works for everyone. I have seen some people come back and do down right stupid things. And it is your life, and the DZO's right/duty to make sure people are safe...And it is his living at stake. So he should be allowed to make that call. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

  22. skyleague.com Click on the scores that are blue. Of course, I can not get them to work right now. and I miss omniskore. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  23. After the FJC, yes. Great question. I don't have the answer. The DZO does not really seem to care that much about making money. We have discount tickets all the time, great team rates...ect. I can assume that a DZ can survive with just filling slots on the plane...And that seems the owners are fine with the DZ just breaking even. This is like no other DZ I have even been at. 24. Agreed, but I do feel that student who have been through the SDU program have a leg up on others. So it is not exactly a bad thing to do anyway. But I agree that the manditory SDU adds to the sticker shock. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

    Gloves

I have no problem talking about it....People need to learn from these accidents. Here Anytime you add something to a skydive, you also add a potential problem. There have been cases of people not being able to feel handles (I'm one), and gloves getting caught on things. It is manageable, but it must be managed.
