  1. Larry - Here's a definition of a "troll" found elsewhere on the web: An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people. Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict. Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it). At the moment, the relative anonymity of the net allows trolls to flourish. Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility. Perhaps this sounds inconceivable. You may think, "Surely there is something I can write that will change them." But a true troll can not be changed by mere words.
  2. I'm a retired NCO now, but here are the Army's Leadership Principles I use to eat, sleep, breathe and shit: 1. Be technically and tactically proficient. 2. Seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions. 3. Make sound and timely decisions. 4. Set the example. 5. * Know your soldiers and look out for their welfare. 6. Keep your soldiers informed. 7. Develop a sense of responsibility in your subordinates. 8. Ensure that the task is understood, supervised and accomplished. 9. Build the team. 10. Employ your unit in accordance with its capabilities. * Personal note - there's a fine line between looking out for your men and mission accomplishment. There will be times where mission accomplishment supersedes all.......depending upon the situation both you and your unit are put in. Other than "acceptional", dire circumstances - this is a very important principle.
  3. Simplistic but time proven - lead by example.
  4. I agree with you 100%, Wendy. Just a personal conviction of mine...........prior to my enlistment, I throughly enjoyed the freedom and the lifestyle I was living here in America. I had just enough sense to know that what I was enjoying wasn't free and that I had an obligation of some sort to serve my country or to do my part just in case we needed to be defended.....I just happen to chose the military at the time.

  7. Don't remember all the details but I believe gripped exits were optional and I told my JM to let me fly.
  8. U.S. Army Retired - 13B4O FIELD ARTILLERY - KING OF BATTLE Edited to add: Inducted into The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
  9. The choice to skydive...The choice to willing put themselves into a situation that WILL end with them dying if they fail to perform. I don't think a 13 year old can really make that call. I don't think that a 13 year old can really grasp that they could die doing this. They may think they can, but 13 year olds think they should be allowed to drive, and drink. But there are laws that say that 13 year olds don't have the ability to make the types of choices that are needed to participate in those activities...And there are studies that back those up. So I don't think a 13 year old should be allowed to jump anymore than I think a 13 year old should be allowed to Solo a Plane, drive a car, drink alcohol, or smoke. I think while there could be exceptions....they would be rare. and lets not forget that ALL skydivers think they are the exception, and ALL parents think little Johnny is "gifted". God forbid a 13 year old bounces in the US...that WILL make the FAA get involved. I would have to agree.
  10. Superbowl Sunday is, for all practical purposes, a "sacred" day for me. I met my wife, who was a bartender the, the night before Superbowl......quite a few years ago. The Jack & Cokes she kept serving me were quite good lol. Anyway, she invited me over her place to have a homecooked meal and to watch the Superbowl the following day. Being a skinny soldier who has forgotten what a homecooked meal taste like, I took her up on it. Man, what a gal. Here it is many years and two sons later, it is a most special day.
  11. Well..........it would suck having lost a job there and I do feel for the workers - we all have to eat; however, I agree.............Kodak was not meeting the ever changing consumer demands in the industry. Companies such as Kodak cannot quit being innovative and hope to keep its share of the market.
  12. My Quaker Parrot can say "Bullshit" and does so quite often.
