Safe or not, there's plenty of evidence that it's an addictive stimulant. Ever seen an aspartame junkie deprived of their daily diet pepsi? It's scary. Way worse than caffeine addiction (to which I happy subscribe). My friends who have tried to quit smoking have all been able to do so eventually. No one I know has been able to give up aspartame completely once they were hooked on it. And yes, I agree it tastes HORRIBLE. My main complaint is that it's getting harder and harder to avoid it, since they seem obsessed with sticking it in every imaginable food product. I still think that premier members, having already paid to support the site, shouldn't have their content changed to include links they do not intend. Very true. But I prefer Perris because if it gets sketchy and I choose to land safe (read: a long walk back from the far edge of the landing area), they pick me up.. and I'm basically really lazy. Both dropzones are nice; my experience has been that there's more RW at perris than elsinore (with a few notable exceptions, I just mean on any random day I showed up), but plenty of freeflyers at both. Have you read the terms? Under the terms of the contract with the UAW, Ford has to 'idle' their plants - they can't sell them off - until the contract expires at the end of 2007. In the meantime, all UAW (hourly) workers at those plants collect full benefits and 90% of their pay, but don't have to show up to work. The estimate I heard is that amounts to about $60/hour per employee once you add in the extremely generous benefits. After that, they are still eligable for retraining reimbursement and pensions. Any chance the round white light looks like these? http://www.randi.org/jr/051702b.html Or that the picture was taken with a flash? Or in dimly-lit (cloudy, rainy) conditions? Those are specs of dust or moisture reflecting light from the flash back to the lens. Very probably what you've got in that picture. Cameras pick those up all the time. The real difference, if you're comparing 12" powerbook to 12" iBook is the dual-monitor support. iBooks can use external monitors, but it's always a mirror of the internal display, but a Powerbook can use the external monitor as extra desktop space - which is very nice for video editing. For that reason, I recommend PowerBook. I would wait a week at least to see if there are any new announcements - it's rumored there'll be an upgrade on Oct 12 - which would mean existing units could get cheaper or faster units could be available. I think it's often involuntary, but can also be voluntary - and I have seen dogs trained to do it. It's very hard to train that though, and I've seen very few people bother. My dog has a tiny little piglet-tail permanently stuck to his butt. He cannot and does not wag it. When he gets excited, his whole body vibrates, which I attribute to tail-wag-muscle feedback. As to the last question, on this you have been misinformed. Not *all* dogs other than border collies are lame. In fact, many border collies themselves are lame (although not, of course, the notorious D.O.G.). Yeah, I used to use eBay back in the day before it got so bad. Bought and sold some high-end audio equipment, some of it several thousand $$$ worth.. No problems at all. Amusingly, this is because Microsoft deliberatly engineers Word so that new versions are NOT compatible with old ones, and that only the same version is compatible across platforms. The reason they go to all this trouble? So that people can't make products that are 'Word compatible' and reliable read or write MS Word files. So you're forced to buy the upgrades for everyone in the company once a few people get the new version. Yep, the product is designed to make interoperability difficult. Simple solution: Try doing a 'Save As...' and pick the RTF format. You should be then able to open that on another machine in almost any program (including Word) and it should at least be intelligible, and preserve most of the formatting. I'd just load OS X on it and let it go. You can use the accounts menu to create a simple finder if you want to limit it to web only, but it should run well by default. As long as it's got at least 128MB of RAM it should do beautifully. A friend of mine has an old iMac DV G3/450 which she uses as her main internet computer with beautiful results. The G4 boot disks you have will probably work just fine. It'd be much easier to set up than Linux.
