  1. Dude, If your hearing it a lot then chance are you are not recieving the message. Yes that first hook turn feels great and that first swoop close to the ground is awesome. Why do you think we continue to do it? Do you think we are going to impress chicks? (your fuckin A right we are), but it's hard to impress them if your broken. Going for the sympathy action only gets you the "motor scooters" if you know what I mean (fun to ride but not in front of your friends). I did a fast canopy progression when I started, and it only set me back in the long run. I would be twice the canopy pilot I am today if I focused on the fundamentals on bigger canopy's when I had low jump numbers. All of my buddies told me I was going to get hurt, but I was to good to get hurt (in my own mind). Luckily I never broke anything, and I look back in amazement, and am thankfull I had some experienced buddy's trying to look out for me. As for all of you guys trying to get skyhighkiy to come around by belittleing him instead of offering helpfull advise, your just showing your own inexperience. Stop being ass holes, and try to teach intead of ridiculing each other.
  2. crew kieth and rhino are giving some outstanding advise here.
  3. Here's my thoughts on the issue... VX-2.0-2.2(max) for distance Velo 2.0 for distance FX 1.85-1.9 for distance XAOS ???? I havn't really jumped precision to much Get the biggest wing that you can get and wear the weight. The more surface area over you the more lift you get the longer you swoop. I believe JC is jumping a 111 or 114 VX or something along that size. The other thing to think about is wing loading is secondary to a good technique. Someone with a higher WL will get a better swoop if his or her technique is better. Combining the two will make you unbeatable. That's all I have to say about that.
  4. Thanks, I havn't quite figued out how to make a "Clicky"
  5. Jim Slaton in Perris Valley runs a ground launching school. Give them a call, and they will teach you the proper way to do it. Although the canopy's we use for skydiving are not the best for slope soaring, it can be done, if the slope is properly angled and the winds are at the appropriate strength.
  6. I'm doing my best to let that memory fade as quickly as possible. The one good thing I have taken from the convention, was my newfound appreciation for Red Bull and Yaeger. "MMMmmm MMMmmmmm.. Bitch" There's actually a picture of the "Incident" here on the web.. http://www.airzonextreme.com/gallery/images/AZX_Competition_21.jpg This was about a split second before I did the unfortunate "Wing Over" that ayork speaks of. It made a big splash. Quite possibly the biggest one of the comp, but I'll let yall decide.
  7. Brotha I would love to attend, but after the rather shity performance at Rantoul that I demonstrated (shined my ass in front of god and country), I don't think I could show my face for awhile. Besides I'm slightly un-employed at the moment and going to school at the same time, so spending a lot of money isn't suitable right now. I would love to come to Atlanta, and go drinking in downtown Atlanta again. I went there once with the Air Force, and I don't think we were sober any of the 30 days we were there!!!
  8. Don't get caught up in everyone elses bad techniques. Take the WFFC for example... I would venture to guess that about 1 out of 5 people there were making nice consistant landings, and it all boiled down to bad technique. Take some time out of your busy jump schedule and just sit down and watch people land. You can learn a lot from it. Not only watch their flare stroke, but watch how the canopy is distorted, and it's effects. You can then start to see who has good technique and who doesn't. Then start to pay more attention to those who are consistantly good. This will help you more than you will know. And just because there is little to no winds, doesn't mean that you have to run landings out. It's all about your technique.
  9. WELL SAID IAN!!! In the begining of billvon's post he talked about "Dropping" the fronts. I personally wouldn't just "Drop" them... It becomes easy to loose a toggle then, but that's just me, and I'm sure bill didn't mean to just "Drop" them (FRONTS that is). Like I said earlier be "SMOOTH". Bill also brought up many good points. Practice practice practice.
  10. I made a fast canopy progression and it ended up putting me farther behind in the long run. Learn the basics on your big canopy, because they will always transfer to the smaller ones, and the basics will always save you when your in a pinch. Just think about being smooth in everything that you do, and it will help you out in addition to being able to land slowly.
  11. Ladies and gentlemen... This thread is getting way out of line! Please keep the attacks out of the picture here! There are some great dz.com names here acting like children. Get over it and get back to the point of the forum, the spread of usefull knowledge. That is all.
  12. OK so by your theory of the spectre having a short recovery arc, and he shouldn't learn on it, you could be saying that he should be jumping a Katana, or a Velo, or an FX, Or a VX, or a Xaos to learn to swoop on;..... That doesn't sound to wise to me. How many jumps on the spectre do you have? If you had a bunch on it then you would know that it has quite a bit longer of a recovery arc than say the stilletto. Just because it's a 7 cell, and he's not loading it up to all of you guy's standards, doesn't mean it's a bad canopy to learn on. Just because the dude is starting up at 600' for final doesn't change anything either. In time he will bring it down, but only when he feels comfortable to do so.
  13. What are you talking about man? A canopy doesn't have to be loaded at 2.0 to surf. A Spectre, even loaded lightly can surf a long distance. It's all how the thing is flown.
  14. Ok your right... It's a brick... But my superior packing skills allow me to get 10lbs of junk into a 5lbs bag. It's also not my fault you bought a container 3 sizes to big!!! Hugs and kisses
  15. "Matilda, certain no one was looking, went ahead and fullfilled one of her deviant fantasies by peeing in the pool. She was quoted as saying after she got caught "Ummm... That Was warm."
  16. I fitting a Velo-103 into an RSK-1 and a 98 VX into an NJ. It's slightly snug.
  17. I'm not really looking for regulation, but just more personal responsibility on everyones part (dealers, jumpers, instructors, dzo's, me). Hook and swoop say's it best in his little signature block "Think"
  18. As for the beer being healthy, you can put some candies in it and call it "SkittleBreau".
  19. We are talking about veggies here... Not the life essentials!!!
  20. I also have seriously thought about giving up the sport about 2 or 3 times in the past year, but I just continue to keep going out there and jumping. 1. Most of my jumps now a days are work jumps. Strap on 200lbs of meat, go for a tandem. Grab ahold of 200lbs of meat and do an aff. Strap on a camera and film 200lbs of meat falling through the sky. 2. The DZ I mainly jump at is usually filled with low timers. It get's old planning a 4 way or something and then getting down from the dive having spent all of it with 2 people together, and one person low and another 20 feet out trying to "Get in". Don't get me wrong... Low timers need to be coached and helped along, but I also need to be coached and helped along. There's no challenge in it any more. 3. As for the danger of the sport and getting injured, I to sometimes feel my number is coming up. I'm not worried about hooking myself into the ground, I'm more worried about someone flying out of their league and hooking into me on final approach, and kiling us both. It happens all the time, look at Roger Nelson (R.I.P.). 4. Finally I just don't get the vibes that I used to get from going to the DZ. I go do my work and then leave. Nothing is really motivating me to stick around. I usually don't even pack after the last load of the day, I just cram it into the trunk and hall ass for an hour to get back to my house. How many of you guys stick around and drink beer, and bullshit till late in the night at your DZ? It just doesn't really happen here. I don't know if I'm growing out of the sport or if I'm just burnt out.........
  21. I jumped a TRI 190 for awhile and I would get the same problem. The one I was jumping had crw lineset on it, so it would just buck around when the fronts where pulled down. If your steering lines are short than you could be getting deflection in the tail when pulling on the fronts. This could cancel the effects of the fronts.
