  1. You'll need to get more comfortable with lower openings if you want to jump much with other people. Even with fairly novice jumpers I expect to break at 4500 and have them pull by 3500, which is only 5-6 seconds later. Most of them end up taking 7-8 seconds, though, because they track longer than they need to for a 2-4 way. If you want to stay safe, keep your wingloading under 1:1 for the next hundred jumps and get canopy instruction. Even just asking experienced jumpers to watch your landings and critique can be very helpful. Not breaking your leg will make you enjoy skydiving much more. Practice your EP's until they are like a reflex. There are many gear systems on the market. They are all pretty damn good designs. It's the choice of canopies and the actions of the operator that make them safe or not. So don't worry too much about brands. Get something that fits- your budget, your body, your ablilities.
  2. I spent 3+ months without mine one summer.
  3. When you're wearing a backpack and walking thru a crowd and you find yourself protecting your "handles".
  4. Yeah, but what a way to waste it. I always use a pen. It's much more professional.
  5. I know, really. Naw, just from time to time you realize it IS a risky thing we do sometimes, and you stay vigilant to try to minimize the risk. Yeah, I'm usually not too spooled up on jump run. But I sure don't take skydiving for granted.
  6. I have a basic propane grill for cooking steaks, burgers, chops, even chicken down on low heat. But my best food comes from our propane smoker. I've done turkeys, chickens, prime ribs and much more, using cherry, apple, alder and hickory chips for smoke. I usually keep it below 210 degrees F. I often smoke the meats for 2-3 hours, then move them to the indoor oven to finish. This Sunday I have about 20 pounds of pork ribs, 8 pounds of beef ribs and 2 chickens going into the smoker. It'll take about 7-8 to get the ribs pull-off-the-bone perfect, but it'll be worth every second.
  7. Yeah, that's what they ALWAYS say. . . A little bit of jitters? Perfectly normal from time to time, esp. if you haven't jumped in a while. I know a guy with over 5K jumps that still gets that little "rush" now and then.
  8. You and Vskydiver. Two women who wouldn't be around without Blood donors. I'm taking a year off, same as Krisanne, due to the Nicaragua trip. Next March I'll be pumping pints again.
  9. From what I've heard about the old Capt. Kirk, I didn't think that would make him blush. Heck, I saw a kid the other day, pants so low, he had two pairs of boxers showin' above the top. Shatner was just stylin' urban.
  10. Vskydiver used to have an all pink jumpsuit with a pink factory diver helmet. On demos and at the DZ she'd have little kids coming up to her asking if she was a power ranger. It was cute.
  11. Sure, it's not amazing to us, but it's a great positive view of our sport. I wonder how many kids got turned onto our sport from that? How old is that movie?
  12. I thought it sucked when the USPA started charging that fee. You didn't for years, and what does it cost to look at the check mark in that little box every year? That's the thanks we get for training all your new members?
  13. Me too. Government job. As far as the camping bit? I've got my gear somewhat organized, or at least located in one part of the garage. I can pack the trailer for car camping in just a few minutes. Getting the food prepped and chilled/frozen takes a bit more time. Cleaning everything and putting it away takes a few hours or so when I get back. I still enjoy camping for a vacation, especially if the campground is LP.
  14. We had a tandem group that brought their own rented-for-the-day GoPros. We helped them mount them to their hands and let them Hero their jump. No problems encountered, except I had to reach over and turn their hand to get themselves, and more importantly ME, in the frame.
  15. There's an old joke about how freefall is better than sex 'cause it lasts longer. Just don't say that one too loudly at the DZ or you won't get a date for months.
  16. What'll that do for me? Does Dan Savage ever write stories?
  17. I like a woman who's not afraid to like what she likes.
  18. Hey, I'm a skydiver. That gets the panties down every time.
  19. That's so racist. You a jive mutha. . . .
  20. Foreplay during the first half, hot sex during the half time.
