Turn out the lights. . .

I tell you something. A few folks gonna be packin' for themselves. . . That much money? I couldn't spend it in my time left if I tried. But I'd love the opportunity.

Death toll is up to 51. Damn. . . I've spent only 4-5 months there, but it's a good town with good people. My heart goes out to all.

Sure they do. Marriage changed me for the much better.

Super good stuff, Missy. I especially liked that you talked about staying off the line of flight until the next group opens. That's a safety practice not often mentioned.

I was hoping for sunshine this weekend too but it looks like rain. I've got some various construction projects on both our new house and our old house to keep me busy, though. Might be some sunshine Sunday and I can air out a little. Hope you fine some fun for yourself.

I started when I was 17. Skydiving has been a huge positive in my life. I wouldn't have met the love of my life and had half the adventures I've had without it.

Pearl Jam wanna bees.

Well, I'm all for artistic expression and freedom of speech, but she seems like just a big time attention ho. And she's kind of in my boat: past that age where she should be taking her shirt off in public.

Davelepka had some great advice. From what I saw on the video, you were pushing your hands too far below your body. Notice that you're fairly level to the horizon because of this imbalance. That makes you wobble with little forward movement. Okay, push your legs down straighter (notice your knees were still bent slightly) and flatten your torso more. Leave your hands back, above the level of your back. You will feel/see yourself in a more head down attitude. This is your angle of attack that makes you fly across the sky. If you rock or porpoise, roll your shoulders forward. As you progress you can push down on the air with your hands for more and more speed. Stability cost performance; performance costs stability. A really good track is not a very stable body position, but with practice you can get very good at it.

Bought my first rig :D. Any thoughts?

And who says you HAVE to downsize? -
*** "NWFlyer"] So much of the Seattle scene was hype, but it was still a fertile breeding ground for a lot of good music. As a young kid in the 60's, I had to endure the de-evolution to arena rock of the 70's and the hair bands of the 80's. As a result, my musical tastes have always run on the fringes, seeking out what may have been less popular but I found more interesting. I know you know what I'm talkin' about, 'cause we've hit a few good shows together.

High-tech stop sign prevents truckers from ruining rigs, tunnels
JohnMitchell replied to ryoder's topic in The Bonfire
That is cool. There's an overpass on my way to work that's been hit and repaired at least 3 times. I don't know why they don't post the height on those bridges anymore. -
I thought the article was fine. The "about the author" bit was self promoting, but hey, if you don't blow your own horn from time to time someone else will use it for a funnel. :P The points are well made and I've seen a lot of improvement in our sport over the past several decades. There's still room to improve, though. And some will just never "get it". Those folks should find a new line of work.

Yeah, usually right after the tornado takes off with the mobile home. We have sunshine in Seattle too . . . well, this one time.

Shouldn't this be in the CRW forum? Obviously they held the downplane too long.

Oklahoma's got nuthin' but football and a stolen NBA team to make their sad lives worthwhile. If you can't win during regulation, you can always try for a win during the interview. Tonight's the Thunder's last game....

I heard that hearing Dylan's voice convinced Jimi Hendrix to strike out on his own, another guy that couldn't sing. And don't be saying anything bad about Jimi. . ..

Difference being the entire structure of the sled was designed to stay intact. Most airplanes, however, will start to come apart beyond 9gs so what difference does it make if the seat stays in intact? Again, you're already screwed. Like that old joke of "They should build the entire plane out of the stuff the 'black boxes' are made." The reality is the plane would (1) be too heavy to fly and (2) the black boxes are often mangled in the crash too.
-
By comparison, most seats in most aircraft only have to survive a 9g impact because beyond that it normally isn't going to make a difference (you're already beyond screwed). Col. Stapp did 42+ G's in his rocket sled experiments and survived. I'd hate to try it, though. QuoteAs both of us noted back then, things don't scale. Flying squirrels, some of them anyway, do leap from tree top to ground. In that time, I'm fairly certain they do pretty much reach their best glide speed and probably do stop accelerating. I mean, think of a properly trimmed out paper airplane; it doesn't take more than a second or two from launch to stabilize its speed. I agree with all of that (just to confound you).
-
My guess is it came from the supposition they would, even while gliding, continue to accelerate all the way to the ground. I've only watched a few glide, but they seemed to reach flying velocity fairly quickly and fly at a steady speed after that. I disagree with your supposition. I think they'd hit their glide speed and hold it, just like any other flying object.

Like 'em all, esp. since Nirvana was a local band. Dave Grohl still does a great job with the Foo Fighters. Chatted with Krist Noveselic the other day as he flew his Cessna thru my sector. But to each their own. . .

NY Times - "My Medical Choice" By ANGELINA JOLIE
JohnMitchell replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
That is a tough choice and my hat is off to Angelina for doing it. Now, with that said, are insurance companies going to cover all of that for the average woman, including the first class reconstructive surgery? Not everyone can hire the best in the world out of pocket. -
I did that in Vegas.

Slick setup, DSE. I can remember going out to Cedar Valley with all my gear on the back of my Yamaha. Of course, that was a Racer, one jumpsuit, a frap hat and an altimeter. The sport's a lot more complicated these days.
