  1. Although every generation complains of the same things, I do feel reality TV has taken exposure of idiots to a new level. But as a young child in the 60's , I saw some really BAD examples raised to celebrity status.
  2. One day talking to a coworker who eats, sleeps and breathes basketball about how I knew someone who was a great skydiver. His response was "What, you jump out, pull the string and either it works or it doesn't. What's there to be good at?" I hope my world view is never that narrow.
  3. Ya lost me, but it's good to hear from ya, Turtle.
  4. Couldn't agree with you more. And that scares me . . .
  5. I like it. I'm usually in the left lane, going as much over the limit as I think I can get away with. But I keep my rear view mirror in my scan for 2 reasons. 1- Keeping an eye out for cops, duh! 2- Watching for an even faster driver who wants to pass. I try to move over as soon as practical, even if I have to slow to fit into the next lane. I've had the pleasure of driving in Europe where they go fast and appear to pay attention. Us Americans could learn a thing or two. Earlier this week I was on the freeway going to the wind tunnel with Vskydiver, driving her cute little red Fiat. I moved over to let some big truck coming up pass. I didn't even look over but she said I got the bird from the guy. Really? I got out of your way, buddy. From the size of the truck, maybe he was just upset about his penis.
  6. Hi beautiful Skymama, When I donate blood every other month the pre-screen sheet says "Do not donate blood to get a free AIDS test. Free AIDS tests are available upon request." I don't know if that's just WA state or Pierce County, but I bet there's similar free testing across the country. I have to admit my blood is so monogamous, long term, minivan pure I thought this was going to be some kind of gag post you put up. Thanks for thinking of all of us. You're a sweetheart.
  7. You just want to go out with my widow, don't ya?
  8. Super good info, Brian. Thanks. Years ago doctrine seemed to be "fly in half brakes" in turbulence. I'm glad to see you spreading the newer knowledge.
  9. Long ago, on rigs that had closing flaps small enough for the end of the pin to hang off, there were a few pilot chute in tow mals because of that.
  10. I still say you can have a fairly normal life and still make a lot of jumps. The life of a DZ bum is not for everyone.
  11. At least he didn't get banned from a really good tunnel. Maybe he like to bring his posse up here and try that *&^% at iFlySeattle. Bet he's a flailer anyway.
  12. You can't have it all, but you can have a lot. I've got the wife (a trophy, I think), the kids and the 401K, but we've also jumped a lot, traveled around a little, and had A LOT of fun. I think there's a balance somewhere.

Damn, I thought of the breakfast food first. .
  14. Darn. Well, I guess I'll just continue to hold a Vigil for my dead AAD's. ArGus that's all you really can do Nice one, Squeaky. You're giving our Missy a run for the money. You know, I've thought of installing an old AAD on a main with spring loaded pilot chute and set it to go off at 2500 to 3000 '. I think that would be a kick to just freefall until your main opened automatically. . . And yes, I'd have a ripcord backup.
  15. Darn. Well, I guess I'll just continue to hold a Vigil for my dead AAD's.
  16. Ah, some good points. The packing thing? Although I don't roll over and go passive, I find I'm a lot LESS likely to honk or make a move when I'm packing. Always gotta consider how it will look in court.
  17. Tandems = quick $$$ for DZ's and instructors alike. Hard to say "no" to that. But you could. I'm okay with my fun load in the back and 4 tandems in the front, with a few aff inbetween. Our DZ seems to strike a good balance.
  18. If you do it right, you can make money on the fun jumper's slot too. And you're right, where else are you going to get all your employees if you don't grow some yourself. I've watched many go from first jump to instructor over the years.
  19. My first time in I had 3-4K jumps. Entering the tunnel was weird but hovering wasn't a problem. God, I would hope not. . .
  20. I'm loaded 1.3+ and can penetrate in as high of winds as I want to jump in. If I'm backing up, I'm sitting out the next one.
  21. It looks like they didn't feel anything, at least I hope so. Damn, that's tragic.
  22. Thanks, Jeff. Any offers out there?
