  1. They should come "terrorize" our DZ's. No objections.
  2. Only that he wasted expensive time & altitude in 'cutting away'. What is there to cutaway from in that situation? Ya beat me to it, Jerry. We train the FJC to "cutaway" every time, but an experienced jumper should later modify his emergency procedures away from "one size fits all." I always say you should be able to think faster than you act.
  3. That's what I think as I'm slipping my pilot chute into that tight little pouch. . .
  4. A bit of a mis-title. It was a 1 positive G roll. Aerodynamically, the plane didn't even know it was upside down. I've done that in a Twin Beech and kneeled on the floor the whole time. A zero G roll would have been a bit trickery on the equipment, hydraulic pumps uncovered, etc.
  5. Absolutely, and it's a foolish DZO who goes that cheap with his tandems. Our DZ discounts tandems by $30 on weekdays to stimulate the M-F business a bit. But half off? That's stupid. And it's not my decision, therefore I wouldn't take the cut in pay.
  6. Cause of death was probably some dizzy-commer looking at porn.
  7. Good thing I always have all my clothes on at the computer. Anyone jacks my web cam can watch me drinking coffee in the morning and a cold beer at night.
  8. Dig out some Hendrix or Led Zepplin for the full vinyl experience. I still have the analog turntable. Don't know if it will follow me as we downsize, though.
  9. I loved planes, trains and automobiles as a kid. I didn't open the windows when I started getting dizzy. I think THAT is what made me become an air traffic controller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WAwuSK36Gw
  10. Oooh, good answer. . . There are so many for me. Paste, like from kindergarten, fresh mimeographed papers, creosote (smells like standing in line at Six Flags over Texas). Model airplane glue because I built so many of them as a kid.
  11. You can get to your A license for less money doing AFF at our DZ, Kapowsin Air Sports. After graduating AFF in as little as 7 jumps, your novice jumps are $65, gear included. Coach jumps are a bargain, I feel, at $85. That's where you can do your dive to docks.
  12. Normal as fuck! Same thing for my first jump. Keep jumping and soon it becomes normal. Then your life will really go downhill as you forsake all other things for skydiving. Hey, when you jump from the plane, arch, breathe, smile and then do all that other stuff they teach you. Practice hard on the ground and don't rush in the air. Have fun.
  13. John, Im hoping ot kick out about 50 - 100 jumps this visit, whilst i travel across the country. 100 jumps here would cost me over $4000. I'm hoping you get them too. And we almost always have a good weekend or two in February up here. You can stay at our new place, 35 minutes from the DZ.
  14. Welcome to the club, and enjoy those pension checks. Do you have any plans or second career ideas?
  15. I've watched some of that SCA stuff. Those guys were out for blood!
  16. No wonder everyone travels to the US to jump. The prices make it seem like Mexico to you guys, eh?
  17. Yes, I know that case well. The jumper had a long history of poor canopy judgement and had many people try to warn him off that canopy. Heartbreaking. I'm all for performance measurement and building skills. Just realize that there will always be faster and slower learners, and that tunnel rats have a HUGE head start on air skills. As long as you can instill them with respect for altitude awareness, gear checks and canopy control. And I prefer certain jump numbers for trying new things. If someone can't make the effort to get 200 jumps before trying a wingsuit, I would like them to go hurt themselves in some other sport, please.
  18. Having that much air sense makes all that tracking, swooping, etc. pretty easy to learn. In fact, I see the tunnel instructors doing bad ass swoops, forward motion, etc. in the 14' tunnel at iFlySeattle all the time. One tunnel rat that I took on a Level 7 this month had, by his second tracking jump, better form that 75% of the people I jump with every weekend. Our kid's first dive to dock? Nailed it. It's amazing what those tunnels are doing to the sport.
  19. I like the split slider myself. Most of the advantages without having to pull it down past all my stuff.

    Snow!

Maybe that will freeze up the flooding.
  21. Every instructor needs to work on keeping a straight face while answering some of the most amazing questions from students. I've heard some great ones.
