  1. It doesn't matter. Thru poor flying you can slide up or down the jumprun line. The important thing is for novices freeflyers (and anyone tracking) to move perpendicular to the jumprun line. That way you're not flying into someone else's column of air. I really don't care what your poll results are. Public opinion does not alter right from wrong.
  2. Boy, isn't that the truth? From walking to the plane to walking in from the field, there's not a moment of the jump I don't some advice for new jumpers. You often got stuck with helping change an engine or scrubbing down a plane, but you got paid back in knowledge.
  3. Born in Fort Worth, still follow the Cowboys. But we live in WA so were hard cheering Hawks fans.
  4. Damn, that's good. . . I'll never be that good.
  5. You are double amazing. When I catch up on being retired, I hope to have more time for things like that. Thanks for giving back to humanity like that.
  6. Yep, I once shared a 3 bdrm house with 2 guys and one of the guy's gf. Since the couple only used one room, we split the bills 30-30-40%, with the 40% for the couple. Easy math and it seemed to work well. At least, until she got tired of her BF's friends.
  7. I thought face down at the toilet was more common with skydivers.
  8. Happy Birthday, Lou. Where ya been?
  9. About as tasteful as dressing up as a mushroom cloud in Japan. But hey, they needed the attention.
  10. I'm not very good at this, but I like to try.
  11. And for people who were having fun the whole time? No crisis. Just keep charging straight ahead.
  12. That's the order of task performance, but flaring is a higher priority than missing obstacles. You should always flare a square canopy for landing, even if (or especially if) you're landing on an obstacle. If that's a direct quote, it's poorly worded.
  13. That is rare and that is good. I tell everyone they have to earn the release. There's usually a hand signal or two (legs out being the most common) before I release them. I see Youtube videos of level 3s with poor body position being released, with the predictable poor results. Not this guy. Sounds like you'll have a smooth dive. Listen to your ground prep. They should tell you to find a point on the horizon and use that for a heading reference. Have fun.
  14. I hear most people talk of stalling on level 3, the first release dive. But most of my students pass on the first one. Good ground prep and practice account for a lot of that, I think.
  15. Years of watching ballet and gymnastics makes me notice them too.
  16. sucks. Stick with the play book. Jumper in tow, conscious, cut the static line . . now.
  17. Wow, you sound like a true connoisseur. Good evaluation.
  18. I blame good genes ;) Aw, thanks. Or maybe you mean his mom, Vskydiver. He grew up a the DZ, packing since he was 10. Aviation degree from community college, working as an air traffic controller. I think maybe he's just comfortable with it all.
  19. That is it exactly. The better the training and practice, the easir it is and the more awareness you have for altitude, etc. No better training than in a wind tunnel. My son was a tunnel instructor before he did AFF. His awareness was amazing.
