  1. The knob on that mount is still the issue. Square1 has a really good design for a replacement box. Look at that one for an idea of how low profile something can be. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  3. This is the link for the debate last month in Iowa, not the one from this week. Perry is missing from this one. Keeping voting open for almost a month after a debate just allows for results tampering. I like Ron Paul but this is another example of internet poll inflation since there are no filters to keep one vote per person if you know how to flush the cookie or to script votes to be submitted. 4. I've been told by a few of the jumpers on this that DHS does not seem like they will now approve of it due to increased terrorism concerns in NYC and DC. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  5. http://news.aviation-safety.net/2011/08/29/faa-proposes-269000-civil-penalty-against-the-parachute-center/ The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing a $269,000 civil penalty against The Parachute Center, of Acampo, Calif., for allegedly operating a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter on 41 flights when it was not in compliance with federal aviation regulations. The FAA alleges that The Parachute Center failed to comply with a 2009 Airworthiness Directive requiring repetitive inspections of the left and right front spar adapter assemblies to identify cracks that might threaten the structural integrity of the airplane. According to the FAA, the company operated the aircraft between November 2 and November 15, 2009, when it was out of compliance with the airworthiness directive. The Parachute Center has 30 days from the receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the Agency. The operator had also been involved in a proposed fine of $664,000 in October 2010. Here is a thread on the $664,000 dollar fine from last year that is locked: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3972072 Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  8. The demo is being done by Team Fastrax. They are actually jumping 10 flags above the city with streamers and smoke also. If I remember right they are landing across the river in New Jersey. The flags are going to be from 250 square feet up to the monster 7800 sq foot flag. There are multiple video flyers going along also. I've been watching their practice jumps for the last month or so. It should be a good show! Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  9. Left handed BOC or even converting the rig back to the older ROL style might help more and be a lot cheaper for you. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  10. With a new tandem rig costing 12-15k dollars it usually puts it outside the pricing of not using it to make money when you can. Its a pretty expensive item to buy and maintain. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  11. Typically with a tandem the DZ if they allow a visiting TI to make the jump charges the slots, rental of the rig and possibly packing of it also. The DZ also has to have the right type of tandem for what your manufacturer rating is good for (Strong, Vector, etc) to allow you to jump their rig. They might have you also sign an Independent Contractor form as well as any DZ policy documents needed to be able to use a Tandem rig. So you might be looking at two slots, 30-50 for rig rental and then the packing fees for the jump. That is all assuming the DZ has a tandem rig laying around and they are not needing it. If you show up to a DZ that is using all the rigs on the loads to make money you will potentially have to pay the DZ the amount they would have made on a random student also. 13. Instead of going the AV route look instead at application whitelisting technology. You end up getting better security and no performance impact on the systems. It will essentially let you control everything that is able to run on the system. This is what is being used in ATM's, cash registers and other systems that are every small on processing abilities but still need to be protected from viruses. 14. This factory does not color their lines, I know that for a fact since I've packed probably 85-100 of the same type canopy now. Also a bit more detail that I was told was it looks like the C's are red but the D's are a different color. I know that some canopy makers are doing the attachment tabs in different colors to make it easier to pack but had never heard of anyone coloring lines to do that. 15. I had a question sent to me by a new rigger that asked that it be posted here. I provided my thoughts but figured I'd let all riggers weigh in to see if my opinion matches everyone else's. I opened a rig that was given to me for a repack and I see that at some point a previous rigger had gone though and colored the top few inches of the C and D lines on the canopy with some sort of red marker. The canopy is white and it looks like the red has bled into the canopy at multiple points now. Do you think the canopy is ok to repack? There are no notes on when this work was done so I don't know if it was the last rigger or it had been done years ago and its just been repacked by others since then. I've been watching the models change on http://www.stormpulse.com/hurricane-irene-2011 all week since I was due to be in FL and I'm amazed at how much the models are not tightening up on its projected path compared to just 48 hours ago. 20. The website was just registered on 7/21/2011. Until the foundation is in place and the motors are ready to be installed don't believe anything is going to open. I've heard talk of tunnels in NY, NJ, Chicago, and even second tunnels going up near existing tunnels and none of those have happened yet. 21. Jumper was around their 15 second deploy point in the static line program and it seems from reports he became unstable and may have fallen to the altitude where his AAD fired and opened the reserve. Since he was unstable the canopy did not open correctly

    Canopy Collision

Two skydivers from a Twin Otter load of 19 collided around 500-1000 ft, they were on different groups, the deceased on a freeflyer group, the other jumper on a FS-8 group. Both canopies apparently collapsed in collision, one was more open than the other.

  24. Looks like you might need to buy a new one since it does not call out the free replacement. This is now confirmed to be a free replacement! I had heard a few weeks ago there were low numbers of cutters in some dealers hands so if you need one call soon to get one. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
