  1. So you are using unrated webbing that is made out of unknown materials with an unknown breaking limit in a critical lifesaving function? The polyester thread is rated to what strength? I am not seeing anything in the assembly that would be too bad if it was done with the appropriate materials. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  2. It took me jumping through some hoops but I got my hands on some of Skylarks rigging bags and a gear bag. I was really impressed with the workmanship in the gear but the import cost and the shipping were as much as the gear was and the discount was all but eliminated on those items. If I was able to do larger orders it might have been worth it but its something you need to consider. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  3. Is that E/F thread or 5 cord on the WW Box pattern? Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  4. You should only use these types of threads for non-certified repairs. The spools should be rust/brown in color to be the Extra Strong Upholstery thread that is equivalent to #69/E threads. My local JoAnns was selling Upholstery thread on White spools, this is not E thread strength and is much less. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  6. I recently picked up a 20u33 so that when I bring my 132k home from the Master rigger it is staying with right now it won't feel lonley. The Singer 591 clone I've had for a few years was the gateway machine, it was just not enough and now I need more... Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  7. I wish I had video of the Cat A jump that the student put a GoPro on for. The rational for that I had heard was since he had the GoPro on for months on end in Iraq he would be fine since he had proved to be able to perform in high pressure situations. Its going to come down to the USPA either eliminating the recommendation for the 200 jumps or putting it as a BSR since its pretty clear the recommendation is being ignored every day. 8. The penalties are not that bad in most cases that have had convictions. Worst case is a couple of years in prison and a few years probation after the case gets plead down several times. This is due to the juries not understanding the crimes. Same thing for IP theft. If you compare that to a bank robber that walks in and pulls a gun there are worlds of difference in the sentencing process and end results even though the hacker might have got away with a lot more money in the end. No Pull

During airshow in Chiang Mai airport Thailand (CNX) - one parachute did not deploy. The jumper impacted the runway.
  10. Oh we walked away from it a while ago but now we are in the process of fighting over earnest money and that BS since the bank does not want to refund the money. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  11. Best part of this one was there was no water on the property. The well was found to be lacking enough pressure so they were going to install a cistern for us. The electrical had a 200 amp panel 100% filled and then jumped out to a smaller panel also filled but only about 1/2 the breakers were labeled. We found splices in the romex that had almost extension cord type connectors to extend the length of the romex. The mold was in the attic where the roof was leaking for the last 3 years. It turns out the builder did not use any flashing where the brick work met the roof. We found water stains on 3 bed room ceilings. 3 Overhead light fixtures did not work and same for 5 outlets throughout the home despite changing bulbs. At the very end we found out that the neighbor had built their house in the water path that ran though the back yard and used their filldirt from the basement to "level their yard" which forced all the water to backup in this properies yard and flood it at the slightest rain, County engineer said only solution they would approve was a regrading of the property to adjust the water flow. We only had to lower the back of the 2 acres by 2 feet and raise the front by 2 feet... The whole process makes me sad that someone cared so little to build that way. I don't understand how it passed building inspection in the first place. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  12. Yep, not much is worse than boxing up your entire house 2 weeks before closing only to find the house fails every inspection you throw at it and the bank refuses to address issues like electric code violations, mold and water damage on a brand new home... I was to be closing tomorrow but instead I am now unboxing everything again. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  15. The hard housing are way more flexible than your normal electrical conduit is. There are very specific Mil spec in terms of the flexibility required for the armored housings we use and discount electircal conduit is not typically as flexible due to its intended purpose. Metal Conduit not made to compress like your armored housings are. MC is made to flex but not compress or expand. Both of which are things your armored housings do. 17. I'm really close to the same mindset. We bought new cars in the last 3 years but only since the last cars we had ran until the AC was no working in the one that had 135k and the only was so basic it had AM/FM radio and crank windows and would stall from time to time. Paid those off in 14 months. We still have hte old CRT TV's in our home and only got an flat screen when the main TV died. I am still on my first container I bought 2000+ jumps ago (same reserve too). I've got a major case of gear envy right now looking at a new container, a new house, a new TV and new camera gear. I really want out of our house and into something larger and nicer. I REALLY want a new 5D Mark II with a pile of L glass and I've had my eye on a new freefly suit for months but in every one of these cases I just can't justify spending the cash for any of them. 20. The Pointy Haired Boss School of Engineering is a pretty high standard for admission into in this situation... The math on this is easy, I just confirmed it by asking a JR high schooler via facebook to solve the same issue and gave him a few pieces of data and he came back with the correct answers. I might take some time and write this up as an SAT style question to see how many of the DZ kids on Facebook can get this right since I am guessing it is around a 6th grade word problem. BTW, the rate of return of $15k to get $400 in credit is about .015% rate of return. The time to pay off a system like this in NJ is around 8-12 years from the energy savings. My home usage averaged over a year is 1016 KWH per month. Cost per KWH is $.0954356 here so my average bills are $96.96 and a solar system would break even around 163 months or 13 years and 6 months at current electric costs. with the projected rate of growth of electricity costs pay off in reality would be around 10-11 years. 21. The strength of the sun power is what is being measured, sure the sun might be up for 9 hours during the winter but how much of that is behind clouds? Morning and evening sun is at an angle that does not allow for that great of absorption so you lose power there and all the other factors. This is no different than why does a 60 watt light bulb light up a bathroom but the same bulb in an arena would not be seen across the building let alone light up the room. Its all energy right? Most panels put out Watts, not Kilowatts.... most panels at 2 feet by 4.5 feet will put out at most around 250-300 watts. At 9 Square feet per panel you also need to figure out how much area is needed. Say 250 watts / 9 = 27.77 watts per SQ foot. 10571 watts / 27.77 = 380.57 SQ feet at a min needed and with the excess room and things like that figure 425+ needed. That's not huge but it needs to be on a south facing roof, not a flat roof. If its flat then you need to have racks built to have the panels face south. 22. At that age the rig was probably originally set up as an Rear of Leg deployment but if it has a CYPRES2 in it they might have had it modified to be an BOC. Before you buy it have it REALLY looked over by a knowledgeable rigger that has some experience on older gear. There are lots of things that might need to be looked at that a quick glance will not notice on older gear so make sure your inspector knows what they are doing. Make sure all the paperwork is right and the BOC is correct if it has been replaced. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  23. You are a Zone 5 location: http://www.wholesalesolar.com/Information-SolarFolder/SunHoursUSMap.html That puts you on average at 4.2 solar hours per day. Take 1000 KWH divided by 30 to figure out how many KW's per day you need to generate. = 33.3 KWH per day Divide the KWH's needed per day by the solar hours per day 33.3 / 4.2 = 7.9285 KW per hour. This is the number you need to put in panels to generate that wattage under 100% ideal situations. Most systems are pretty inefficient so figure a 20-25% loss of power over the system and you are now looking at 7.9285 / .75 = 10.571 KW's needed to be installed. If you are doing flat and not motion tracking you will need more also. Price per watt on panels with out any tax credits or rebates range from $1.50 to upwards of $3.00 per watt. Rough cost is going to be 10571 watts * 1.50 = $15,856 plus install, shipping, certification, etc... I also assume you want a Grid tie so that you can draw power from the grid on cloudy days or pump power back to the grid on really sunny days. That is going to be a lot of money for a system that large. Here is a system that would be large enough to meet your requirements all for a low price of $26k... http://www.wholesalesolar.com/system/solaredge-50-astronergy-panel-gridtie-system.html Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  24. The Mattress is a big one that we found in ours. Also keep an eye on all the plumbing and roofing to make sure leaks do not occur. A leak will rot away the flooring faster than you might imagine and we have a soft spot on our floor due to the previous owner not noticing a leak at the fresh water tank. 25. This is a completely manual lens. This means you need to set the focus before using it every time. Its also a lot heavier than most general use skydiving lens are. I looked at one for a while and passed. I had a Canon 14mm briefly and it was on a 60D but it was WAY too heavy for me to jump on a regular basis and I sold it (Lazlo bought it and turned out GREAT photos on it). If you are fine going manual and don't mind a lot of weight on your head look at it. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
