  1. They still are heavily invested in the traditional model of used games and new retail. They are looking/evaluating a service similar to Steam but it has not launched yet so at this point they are not really into the digital delivery of their games. They were dealt a slight blow in the last year when many games started putting in features that require activation for the game to be playable and each unlock code is only good for one player so the used buyer now has to buy the game and the unlock code for additional cost. 2. He was the official at our wedding and his signature is on the marriage certificate. Scary that some random internet church would grant him privileges to marry us! I was also in his wedding a few years back. I see him about every other month and talk to him at least monthly. I even made a jump with him this summer! I'll pass the word that he is being asked about on here. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  4. What is your "Arm and leg" prices? How far are you in your license progression? Where do your friends jump? That usually is where you will want to go so you now the locals... Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  5. Yep, I had mine replaced on a 2 week old Cypres 2! Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  6. That is the right price but when you start getting into the professional level that is cheap. Some of the stand alone programs that are used in movie and TV production are tens of thousands of dollars for the same basic function (but those look better usually) Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  7. Your cousin, my wife Shes going to be happy you called her 4'11", that is having her grow a little bit! She stands up just fine in Otters and Caravan's with only a slight need bend. Shes even been standing up in the Beech 99 all summer too. We actually just had an issue with the new Mirage we got for her, it sits really low on her back and she was having issues reaching back to pull the main when she had the rig on the ground. By getting rid of the freefly handle and just the shifting of the rig a bit in freefall she is now able to pull easier but its something of a real concern if you are jumping anything that is too large. 9. I have heard that the USPA has already written the script for a 20 minute show that is very similar to one that is used by a government sponsored demo team They are shaping the show to highlight things like Hi/Low jumps with smoke, FS jumps, CRW passes, Swooping and basically a bit out of each discipline that the US team is made up of. The intent is even to allow airshows to do multiple skydiving acts since this will be "fresh" and "have things no other act has" so that if an airshow wanted to they could have the Knights come and do all the flags and smoke and then this team can do all the other activities. I don't see too many airshows wanting to do this since performance time is limited and they get higher attendance (and therefore $) with bigger acts like jet teams, historical planes, etc than they get by advertising skydiving. If given the chance to add an additional plane performance or a second skydiving show I am pretty sure most will go with the plane. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  10. Jumper made a low turn prior to landing and the canopy was unable to return to level flight prior to hitting the ground. He may have been trying to avoid a crosswind landing. Winds had been shifting 90 degrees and gusting.
  11. I have had two friends die now due to their progression choices. One was doing 270's on a canopy at 1.6 or so at 400 jumps and just did his last turn too low and lasted about 16 hours in the hospital. The other one was rarely jumping but decided he needed a fully elliptical canopy at about 1.4 loading around 150 jumps or so and ended up in a poor landing area and did a panic turn. No one was able to stop their decisions or the freedom they had in the sport so I ended up doing 2 different ash dives in 9 months Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  12. I hate to put it this way but if you have a student that does cutaway too low for a regular RSL to properly work and it ends up in court it might be a much harder case to argue that you did not provide all of the availble safety options all in an effort to save $300. 13. How often are you brushing the dog? Are you just using a normal comb or a tool like the Furminator to remove all the loose hair? I have 4 animals and found with more frequent brushing the problem is easy to control. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  14. Twixtor is by far the best option for slow motion editing that I have seen. It is easy to overdo it with the effect but when done correctly it looks great. slowing footage down for more than 3-5 seconds just overdoes the effect too much in my opinion but you have some excellent footage there to work with and the edit is showing that off. Are you typically just substituting Twixtored footage at the exit and opening for a normal NLE time edit? What is this doing to your render times since I have played with Premiere and Twixtor and it seems to add about 1-1.5 minutes of render for every second of edited footage. Are you seeing similar results? Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  15. The Drunk dial list was killed after it was being abused by multiple. It was reported that there were calls that were coming people people that only had a jump or two and were not really "part of the community" and other issues so we removed it from the site. Wingnut is no longer on the forums but I still talk to him all the time. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  16. Customer gets everyone of the shots I shoot. They walk out with a CD that is almost if not completely filled in terms of the space I have to work with. I remember the days of 24 or 36 and honestly they sucked. I never got photos as a student but a few friends did and they might have had 1 on the whole roll worth blowing up since they photographer only really shot 18ish in freefall to shoot one or two gearing up and a few at landing. Now days I can look at my after photos and usually find 5-6 at least from freefall that look great blown up and another half dozen on the ground that are great ones. I am there to deliver a great product for the customer. Using a DSLR is the only tool that delivers that for paying customers today. 17. Rate of stills is still around one every 1.1 seconds. That might be fine for fun jumps but its not near enough for commercial purposes yet . I deliver around 100-120 stills per tandem package with 80+ being in freefall. The Hero's are not quite there yet but in another model or two they might be. 18. What would you say is a reasonable time to wait around a DZ if you are wanting to pay for a jump (aka not staff) while waiting on a load if the weather is nice? I'll draw a line and say if the DZ can't get me up on a load in 2 hours then I will find something else to do that day. This is especially true at a turbine DZ. 19. Guest team. They are ineligible for medals usually due to not being citizens or a few other reasons. They can compete and their scores count but they will not earn a medal. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  20. With a Caravan going for 1.1-1.4 Million and a Otter approaching 1.4-1.7 Million its not a cheap start up cost to get into a turbine airplane. 3 million would get you an airplane, a dozen or so tandem rigs and half a dozen student rigs. Figure in the extra's like hanger space, jumpsuits, etc That is enough to get you started. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  21. The number I have posted are dead on since that is the situation I am facing right now except I am looking at NY in state rates for my wife. Over 90k in student loans for a 28k a year job. Grants were not an option since the parents had too much in their 401k and were expected to empty them to pay for the education despite both having taken jobs making much less money recently so no liquid cash. Loans were split between private loans at 6.5+% interest rates since at 85k total income it is too much for federal loans. I am seeing the same thing with my brother in law. Granted he is now old enough to qualify as an independent and gets more grants finally but that was after 4 years of schooling and only in his 5th year did he get a better deal. He'll be graduating with over 100k in debt with a sports degree and is now able to coach or referee high school games. Here is the calculator used to figure out the Expected Family Contribution: http://www.finaid.org/calculators/scripts/estimate.cgi On a family of 5 with an annual income of $100000 that has a total of $150000 over all the assets for the family (401k, savings, stocks, etc) they are expected to contribute $15,698 per year towards their child's education. If they do not have that $16k laying around then it all rolls into student loans. Unless you are athletic enough to get a scholarship or score exceptionally high on tests to get an academic scholarship you are pretty much forced to empty out a large chunk of your family savings or take out loans to cover everything. 22. Not quite at the 200k level but most teachers have to take out $75-100k for the bachelors and masters degrees and are lucky to get jobs at $30k here in Ohio. There is now a huge glut of teachers that are not even in the field since the options are work at Charter schools for $26k or bag groceries for $25k since public schools are not really hiring. http://undergrad.osu.edu/money-matters/tuition-and-fees.html Billed expenses Ohio resident Non-Resident Tuition and fees $9,711 $24,759 Room and board $10,215 $10,215 Total $19,926 $34,974 4 Year degree: $79704 $139896 Here in the state of Ohio all teachers are required to have their Masters degrees within 8 years of starting to teach so most schools just build the masters program right into their education program. http://gradadmissions.osu.edu/Costs.html All costs are subject to change without notice. A complete list of quarterly tuition charges by program may be found at the Office of the Registrar's website. $11,298 - tuition cost for a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, aslyee, or refugee and a legal resident of the State of Ohio; $28,746 - tuition cost for a US citizen, permanent resident, aslyee, or refugee whose residence is outside of Ohio; $13,980 - estimated annual expenses for room, board, insurance, books and supplies Add in the all the costs and you are looking at $104982 for instate rates and $182622 for out of state. OSU has been having rate hikes of 6-8% per year on average for the last few years until the students protested the other year. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  23. You lose more than a few pixels, you lose a decent amount (as you have probably experienced) and now to keep the action centered I'm going to have to motion track it to keep things centered. Its just amazing to me that the would include a setting that would let you still shoot in 4:3 these days... Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  24. Is there a good way to get GoPro footage shot at 1280*960 to scale to 1920*1080? With 1280*720 it is at least in a 16:9 format and it easily rescales. Having the footage in 4:3 dimensions really sucks when trying to build it into a project containing all 16:9 footage. On a side note its an incredibly stupid decision to still include a 4:3 native dimension in something that is meant to shoot HD. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  25. Chamber rides are the best way. It is simple to get the Class 3 physical needed to go for the trip (take it for a student license or for a tandem instructor course). There has been a group of jumpers locally talking about getting a chamber ride so we can be cleared for jumps up to 30k Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
