  2. http://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2015/11/02/orlando-is-about-to-have-a-ton-of-indoor-skydiving-options -Drive-based indoor skydiving attraction iFly recently announced a new location next door to WonderWorks. The property currently houses the Hawaiian Rumble miniature golf course. That course has seen a noticeable decrease in maintenance in recent years, including shutting down the large fountain show that was used to draw attention from passing guests. The location does have a large amount of pedestrian traffic. With WonderWorks next door and numerous local bars, including IceBar and a nearby Miller’s Ale House, the location seems like a perfect place for walk-in traffic. The current iFly location is in the far rear of a dead end drive across from Wet ‘n Wild. While that location is highly visible, it lacks easy access and few, if any, pedestrian traffic. The new location will likely use new technology, as well. The current iFly Orlando uses a dated, large wind tunnel style machine. The machine is very tall, helping with the visibility of the attraction. The new location will likely use more recent indoor skydiving technology that includes clear acrylic tubes. It’s believed that those tubes will be visible from I-Drive. Most of the more recent iFly locations feature these clear tubes. Also due the size of the new location more than one skydiving tunnel will installed. If skydiving next to an upside building and an ice bar isn’t your thing yet another indoor skydiving attraction is in the works for the I-Drive 360 complex. That one will be opened by Dubai-based entertainment company Inflight, which has similar indoor skydiving attractions in other markets. The I-Drive 360 skydive attraction showed up in some early documents for the complex but little has been mentioned regarding the project since then. Recently GrowthSpotter confirmed that Inflight was still planning to open the Orlando attraction. It will likely use similar clear, low profile tubes at the new iFly location. Yet another new indoor skydiving option soon to come back to the Florida market is Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas. It houses one of the only simulated skydiving experiences at sea. That attraction is also operated by iFly. It also uses the updated clear tubing and tech similar to the expected Orlando machines. Allure will begin South Florida based cruises in the coming weeks. I'd heard that the plan is to tear the existing open flow tunnel down once the new iFly tunnel is up and running but this is the first I've heard that Inflight Dubai wants to open a tunnel in Orlando also. 4. Charter schools are a joke in most areas. I have had experiences at three different ones and none of them are good. They lower the standards of teaching required to be able to get first year teachers that have no real experience in the classrooms but start at the lowest end of the pay scale. They are allowed to hire "administrators" to run the school as a principal without having any of the credentials or certifications that any public school administration is required to have. The charters that I have worked with spent most of the budget on facilities that they had to rent from their "sponsor" at usually above market prices. The sponsor is allowed to make a profit and same with the charter school administration but the school itself is not so all the money is adsorbed into profit areas prior to it being allowed to be spent on the students. This was leading to a much reduced dollar per child ratio compared to public schools. Further since every student is dollars to the school they are much less likely to move to remove a student due to behavior issues than some of the public schools since if they remove the student then they lose that child's state distribution next month. They lack dedicated resources to deal with problem kids so they just leave them in the normal classroom to disrupt with little consequence. Also around here with most Charters they do not offer high school levels since they have a very poor record of being able to actually pass state testing requirements. Charter schools do not have a higher rate of parent involvement since in the first 4 years of dealing with charters we saw very few parents show for their scheduled conferences with the teachers and in most incidents during the day the parent was unable to come to school to deal with their child since doing so would put them at risk of losing their job. In my experience the higher the job stability that the parent has the more likely they are to be more involved with their child, not the school that they enrolled their child into. Higher stability allows the parent the ability to come to school at the time of an incident if one occurs instead of days or weeks later when they finally have a shift off, it relieves the pressure of potentially loosing their job every time a child is sick and despite the fact that they should keep them home they send them to school anyways because they have no other options to care for the child. 6. I've only got a weekend of jumps out at the airport - it was a tighter landing area than a few DZ's but off airport there were no real outs that you would want to go for unless you were a more experienced jumper. The spot was usually about halfway between the ocean and the airport so you flying over the city until you made it to the landing area. The airport had a ton of land to land on but the winds were pretty strong as you would expect them to be with the shore breezes. I thought the DZ was pretty well put together in terms of safety. The only thing I was not a huge fan of was the flights out over the ocean (like 1-2 miles off shore). If DZ's have off DZ landings count as a safety violation to the FAA then a lot of places are going to need to look out since we seem to have reports weekly of off DZ landings. 7. Jim Jordan is in the party that has been able to gerrymander most of the state of Ohio to get voting districts pretty much a lock for the Republicans in most areas in the last few years. They have carved up the state so that islands are created that belong to the same district and the only thing that they have in common is that they are a strong voting block for a certain party. The 2010 redistricting board was made up of 4 republicans and 1 democrat. It took a simple majority vote to approve all the redistricting of the state. What has been allowed to happen is that the voting ends up being 70/30 or at best 65/35 in most of the districts for either party. The redistricting board managed to shove a lot more of the traditionally democratically voting areas into a few districts and opened up more seats for the republicans. As such this means that the GOP candidates have little to fear about losing an election. They only have to appeal to the voters that will show up to the primaries to ward of challengers and in most cases those tend to be the outer edges of the parties. After they win the primary (if its even contested) then they already have the campaign pretty much wrapped up since too many people vote for either a D or a R with out caring what that person is actually going to vote for. Most of the time it seems that the vote is cast just to avoid voting for the other party. Its a race to the crazies since they are the ones that win primaries and with the voting districts stacked to start with... we are only going to see it get worse as evidenced by the Freedom Caucus who believes that any compromise is a bad deal Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  8. Most cutaway pillows are made by taking a long piece of cable and using a Nicopress or swedge on it to basically make a little loop at about the 1/4 point around a piece of webbing. The short side then goes to the users right side (shorter cable) and the long side is for the left side. The webbing is what gets sewn into the fabric pillow. The swedge changes the entire geometry of this compared to the hard metal handle that was in use on this fatality since it allows for a more gentle bend and no sharp edges for the cable coating to wear against. 10. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/09/us/politics/house-speaker-vote.html Boehner might not be able to resign for quite a while... Issue as I see it is that a lot of candidates that are up for reelection do not want to be seen voting for someone that is unable to push the agenda of defunding Obamacare and stripping PP of all of its federal funding. Reality is that neither of those initiatives are really viable right now for a lot of reasons but if they vote for someone that is "moderate" or "willing to compromise" with the democrats then they very well might be now faced with having to run in the primaries and have that as a major talking point. If they vote for someone that can not get those items pushed through then its an issue also that they appeared to have voted for a weak speaker. The GOP has a few options - find someone that can get most the party to rally behind them (getting less likely daily) - Find an interim speaker that is not going to run for reelection and let the party pick a new speaker in Jan 2017 if they keep the house (looks like this might have only a few options) - or form a caucus with the democrats and pick a Speaker that the majority of the Dems will vote for also to get them to the needed vote count (this is a long shot since anyone going this route will face a major issue for siding with the other side come reelection season) Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  15. It looks like the team is using Lightnings as canopies. Those are one of the worst landing canopies out there and I am not aware of any other team that is using those for accuracy landing demos. They tend to need some speed to get good landings since they are designed more for canopy formations then they are landing. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  16. Next one to drop will be Pataki then Santorum and then Jindal. Shortly after is Graham and he is going to be followed by either Christie or Kaisich. Last of the fringe candidates will be Huckabee. I see Huckabee waiting it out until the final 5 even if he is polling at 1% at that point. 17. Anyone out there now making child sized full face helmets? I knew SkySystems did but that does not seem to be an option any more since those were special order only and they are no longer in business. I figured with the increase in tunnels and kids flying there might be one company out there with a helmet since my kid hates wind in her face but wants to fly in the tunnel. 20. I suspect that they have their figures wrong for the iFly facility at only $612,000 http://natick.wickedlocal.com/article/20150901/NEWS/150909775 Bowling alley, skydiving facility proposed for Framingham-Natick line An upscale, retro-inspired bowling alley, restaurant and indoor skydiving facility could be added to the shopping mecca on the Framingham-Natick line. BRE DDR Shoppers World LLC has filed plans to build a 21,000-square-foot Kings Bowling Alley with a restaurant at 19 Flutie Pass in Framingham, the street connecting Shoppers World and the Natick Mall. A 7,500-square-foot skydiving facility, iFLY, is proposed to sit on the other side of the town line in Natick. The 12.8-acre redevelopment site, straddling the border, is currently a vacant lot. It was formerly used as a snow dump and for commuter parking and overflow parking for the AMC cinema across the street. The Framingham Planning Board is scheduled to open a public hearing on Sept. 10 on the plans for the bowling alley and separate 9,500-square-foot restaurant in Framingham. The $1.1 million project is proposed to create 20 permanent and 230 part-time jobs. Property owner BRE DDR and its affiliate DDR Corp filed its plans simultaneously with both towns for 19 Flutie Pass in Framingham and 1391 Worcester Street in Natick. BRE DDR is seeking special permits from Framingham for restaurant use, indoor amusement use and land disturbance and site plan modifications to decisions the Planning Board made back in 1994 for Shoppers World. The Natick Planning Board is scheduled to open a public hearing on Sept. 16 to start reviewing plans for the $612,000 skydiving facility. The project is anticipated to create 25 full-time and five part-time jobs in Natick. In an impact report, BRE DDR said it has the opportunity to redevelop the space now that it has renovated the AMC and reduced cinema seating by 56 percent, as “part of its overall efforts to continually modernize Shoppers World to keep pace with current retail trends.” The plan calls for redeveloping 11.8 acres of the site, 8.4 of which are in Framingham. BRE DDR, through attorney James Hanrahan of Bowditch & Dewey, LLP, was not available for comment Monday. Plans call for three new buildings, landscaping and utility and stormwater system upgrades, along with bicycle racks, energy efficient lighting and reconstruction of the parking lot to accommodate 393 vehicles. BRE DDR, which owns Flutie Pass, also proposes making various improvements to help with the increase in traffic, including on Shoppers World Drive. Kings, the bowling alley, would offer a 160-seat restaurant service. BRE DDR did not name the separate proposed freestanding restaurant, identifying it on renderings as “Eatery.” Kings, which started with its first bowling alley in Boston’s Back Bay, has expanded in Massachusetts and around the country, including at Legacy Place in Dedham. Its 26,000-square-foot Dedham location has 20 ten-pin bowling lanes with retro-inspired décor, private entertainment rooms and space for up to 600 guests. The spot has three premium bars and a full-service restaurant and lounge, serving American food, such as pizza, wings, salads, burgers and ribs. 21. Honestly - Its a lack of time for me right now. I've got two kids, travel a lot for my job and spend the weekends at the DZ. It takes a lot of time to sort though each thread in the incidents forum to try and get the details out from each fatality and then to sum up the details into 4-5 sentences. Craig who runs Skydivefatalities is in the same boat as me with a lack of time. If you see anything wrong just shoot me a note and I can correct them fairly quickly.
