**The true safety margin is longer time between groups and not struggling to get a full twin otter out in one pass.** finally, some words of wisdom! this is what i've been saying since day 1, and have been "shot out of the saddle" a lot of times. it's funny how they don't mind making a second pass for good spots for afp, or aff, tandems, etc...but the rest of us, every man/woman for themselfs i guess. freefliers do move around the sky a lot, when i do head down, i always do a 360 at around 6K to look around and see where everybody is, i generally catch up to the rw formations that have jumped previously, not on top of them, but to my left or right, which essentially slows my head down dive down because of having to lift my chip up to do this, for once i would like to do a head down dive and not have to worry about this, i'm in agreement that freefliers should exit first, reason # 1, no other group is going to fall faster, reason # 2, they generally beat everybody else to deployment altitude anyway. my rant is over. (why are free fliers referred to as "freaks"?) just curious R.G.

Real TV and "Expert Skydivers'...My rant....
rgoper replied to LawnDart21's topic in Safety and Training
tom: sad...but true, this is the general potrayal of sky divers, this guy was probably doing his first or second sky dive, and probably trained himself! :) i don't like the way the media portrays us at all. my favorite of all time is the scene in dropzone when wesley snipes is sitting on his ass in that jump plane with a trap door underneath his ass and the chick pulls the handle to drop his ass out from the bottom of the plane, she has a 8 second conversation with the pilot, the bails and tracks to him, grabs him and deploys and saves the day for both of them. i'm thinking, yeah, RIGHT! then there's the scene in the swayze/reeves movie where there'e in freefall for 4 minutes in a speedstar, and swayze (sp?) is telling johnny "pull" and he responds "after you alphonse, i insists" that's RICH! i will attempt neither sky dive! take care, be safe! HH: **You can pick a fight with me on these forums if you want, but that's a little bit like pissing into the wind.** i'm telling you for the last time, i don't wan't any trouble, i'm not going to participate in your vandetta, fight with yourself. you are becoming the very thing you say you don't want others to become. this re-posting of a posts MONTHS ago, that i apoligized to the entire skydiving world for is a "dead" issue, for you to "drag it up again" is inflamatory at best, and a personal attack on myself at least. i knew in advance, when i posted this, you would do EXACTLY as you've done...consider this my last word on the matter. it's not you i'm concerned with, it's the character assasination. in either event, as i've said 5 hundred times, my white flag is up....YOU WIN, ok???????? R.G.

HH: i'll be glad when you get off of that "your not a victim" b.s. i'm not trying to portray myself in that manner. i was speaking in general terms. R.G.

pammi: i'm sure to be scorched for this (as i usaually am for anything i say) but because you asked. i'm in total agreement to EVERYTHING you said, and the way you stated it. the thing is you have to be careful, because if your not one of the "in people" you'll probably be chastised, if not completely bashed. i know of several instances to where certain situations/attitudes have occured because of others expressing there views, not only in this forum, but other's like it. i know a bunch of people here dislike me......but they don't know me, the same way i don't know you. i know of you only what you write here, not because of a personal friendship, etc...it would be hard for me to completely form an opinion of someone else, just because "joe-blow" said he/she is an asshole, or piss-poor sky diver. i started this sport (41) late in life, and i've been involved in many different sports in my life, but this is the most egotistical sport of all, but that's just one of the aspects that draws me to it like a moth to a flame. my one wish, if any here responding to you posts, is to say "get to know someone, BEFORE you think you know them." first impressions mean a lot, but are not always a good rule of thumb to judge character by. R.G. P.S. my dad served in the military for 22 years before retiring, he was a SFC, we were based out of pendleton, san diego california (where i was born) he always said to others "i may not agree with everything you have to say, but i will defend to the death, your right to say it" a most profound statement, by a patriotoc individual.

dave: i just had a hornet 170 put in my J-4, it's been a lot of jumps since i've jumped a 9 cell. could you pm me to tell me more of your experience with the hornet, i'll be loading this one at 1.5294-1.5882. i've been jumping a triathlon 7 cell loaded at 1.4474. (figuring 30 lbs for gear plus body weight) how do you think it'll react? i'm hoping for more glide, less sink on landings, and more responsive turns. R.G.
-
dave: done deal, lets work on it, i'll make some calls r.g.
-
not if they drift, right? i've pulled early on more than on occasion because of this very thing. if your freeflying, you falling at a faster rate, right? so theoterically your at pull time before the rw divers, and they've been sliding all over the sky, so they shouldn't be on top of you when they pull. i do understand your thoughts though. r.g. hell, lets do it in drag, and be "uggins"
-
hey dave: lets do a hybrid, two belly fliers, and a third flier hanging in a stand holding onto the two belly fliers chest straps!!! the two belly fliers could go into center turns with you hanging underneath, then we could have a couple head downers dock on the back of the belly fliers, what do you think? we can get hooknswoop to dirt dive, and organize it, it'd be great, then we have to have a camera flier! r.g.
-
dave: have you ever caught up with the rw divers before pull altitude? remember, they have to track, yuch! r.g.
-
dave: a naked jump kinda rules a "sit" out, maybe a hybrid/head down thingy? R.G.
-
dave: naked SCR jump!! Richard
-
what about exit order everybody? there's been a lot of contraversy lately about who exits the aircraft first, we all know the standards. the one thing that is a given is CRw out last. Richard

dave: i'm working this weekend, but off the first weekend of next month. derek installed a hornet 190 in my javelin J-4 container, and repacked the reserve, if you need a rig to jump, pm me, and i'd be glad to let you jump it. i got the hornet from freaksis up in dallas town, i can't wait to fly it! but you welcome to it, it's got flame retarder (nomex) on the container, so you can't hurt it! :) J/K let me know if you'll need it, so i can let derek know something. Blue Skies, Hot Days.......And BOOBIES! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" the "B" word again, i'll probably be admonished :(
