  1. well said lisa, ready to assume the position of canopy nazi # 1 again? somebody needs to! this is a wake up call for all of us. is sky diving dangerous, hell yes, can it be done safely, oh yeah, do we all know our limitations, i don't think so. for some it's a bout "pushing the envelope" were already doing that just by exiting the aircraft, and i'm not saying i don't approve of hook turns, blade running/swooping it can be done safely, the only observation i've made is people downsize too quickly just to keep up with the joneses, and they don't make the proper consultations. why is it before sky sufring there are different levels, lengths, and tapes, and/or coaches, but none for swooping? just a thought. personally, i wouldn't even let the idea cross my mind unless i had coaching from two individuals that i know have been doing it for years. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  2. o.k. gals, let hooknswoop eat, and HELL NO! you can't jump his dishrag. (now i know i'm dead!) i still want my whoopin' though, damnit! i bet i stand a better chance of getting it now though! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  3. Lummy: not me, are you crazy? there teasing a friend about his vx-60, shit man, that ain't big enough to be my sock! "it's all about living!" but fyi, the man that own's the vx-60 wouldn't let anyone fly it, if he didn't know, i mean KNOW they could fly it. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" P.S. It wasn't canopy size that hurt my friend, it was a low turn, had nothing to do with canopy size, please do not missconstrue my remarks, i'd appreciate it!
  4. yeah, yeah, all her idea!! not mine! (god i wished i'da kept my mouth shut!) i ain't signin' here no more
  5. that's sad, at least he left a way kewel legacy! Richard
  6. oh shit, i'm fukkin' dead now! i ain't signing here no more
  7. why not now???????? pookie bear! please don't kill me! Richard
  8. **People like Derek, Lisa, Chuck and other people with thousands more jumps are valuable resources who possess information which can literally save our lives... if we put our egos on the shelf, be patient and heed their advice.** Zenmeister: BINGO.......this is what i was hoping to get out. i hope everyone is paying attention to this very wise statement from a very wise individual. this is the only way to keep barry's numbers down. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  9. i'm in complete agreement of everything you say. but it would seem as long as DZ'S and DZO'S are willing to let someone of a low, or questionable skill level do aff, tm, camera, etc....my belief is that the numbers will continue to rise. this particular young man was flying camera, filming a tandem, and hooked in his sabre 120 with a wing of about 1.58, which isn't a factor in my mind. my question is "should he have been there to begin with?" all of this doesn't matter, and obviously the "self police" doesn't work worth a damn. so what do we do? i'm just under 300 jumps, and 1 1/2 years in the sport, i was entertaining the idea of taking aff coaching classes, i think i just re-thought that. like my very first tm told me before we ever exited the aircraft "it's all about living" you know who you are! he's one of the people i refer to when i say i don't know but a few people qualified to hook/swoop (personally) take care everybody. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  10. mark: i'll agree with that theory on the jump numbers/age/experience, but on the other hand what i was trying to get at is the number of people who want to downsize and swoop with 50-100 jumps. i know some "catch on" faster than others, BUT we have to remember "what kind of example are we setting?" for the newbies in our sport. let's face it sky diving is more mainstream now, thus the numbers are increasing in our sport dramatically, i'm concerned about these people, and my desire is to not have them added to barry's page. my question still remains the same "what will it take?" Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  11. ........to stop the injuries, and death in our sport. i've seen quite a bit about downsizing, and swooping here in the last few weeks, and have held my tongue. now a friend of mine from the houston area is lying up fighting for his life because of this very thing. i refer to it as "hot-dogging" i know of about four people who do it, and do it so well that there is no doubt in my mind that they will pull out. but this young man didn't have the jump numbers, nor the experience. i'm not wanting to rant here, i'm just concerned for "our family" please think twice before you downsize, please think two more times before you try "hook turns, and turf surfing/swooping, etc" LOW GROUND TURNS KILL. my heart goes out to this young man's wife, i wish him well, i hope she holds up. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  12. "pookie bear?" o.k. what the hell is going on here, i've been PATIENTLY waiting in line for my whooping, and haven't recieved it yet, and now you two have time for this? let the flogging begin, you two can flirt on your own time, after the line is empty! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

freebird: good luck, and best wishes onto whatever endeavours you pursue. we will miss you, see you when you get back. please don't judge the sky diving community by the sentiments echoed here in this forum, and i'm sure you will not be judged too harshly either. take care, god bless. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
  18. a divemaster that once had the priveledge of teaching my incorrigible ass once asked me why i skydive, i thought a second, and said "because i think it's fun" he then asked me "what do you think about when your diving? do you think about your troubles, bills, problems, or just the sky dive?" that, was one of the most profound remarks coming from what i consider to be one of the most influential people of my skydiving life that i have heard to this day. Lets Go Sky Diving! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

zenmeister: might want to start a "dive well with others" program. obviously theres a few of us (names with held to protect innocent) that want to dictate who can, and cannot jump with whomever, for whatever reason, and they don't even own a d.z., nor are they an S&TA, go figure? sky gods, ya gotta love em!
