zennie: if a jury finds that no money should be awarded to a victem/complaintent, what ever, can a judge reconsider the findings of the jury, and take it upon him self to either award, or to find that the subject will in fact, recieve nothing, or a sum maybe equal to his workman's comp, and surgeries, etc...have costs? we had a big jury trial up here where i live, it's been going on for 4 years, (the guy was in fact, really not injured, i know this for fact) he had back surgery, on what, i don't know, but i do know it didn't stop him from his usaul activities. the jury found in favor of the third party company being sued, (awarding him nothing) now this guy is telling all of us that the judge didn't agree with the jurys verdict, and will take up to 90 days to find in favor for him monetarily, i find this odd, because it was always my understanding that the laywer(s) would have to appeal for this to happen, just curious, i'd like to know if this guy is blowing smoke up me arse or not. the original lawsuit was asking 4+ million, the service company offered $100,000.00, and they declined, and pressed on. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" P.S. if you like, pm me that info, so's to keep it out of here...thanxs rgoper@msn.com

10+ million could but a lot of dz's and aircraft, that much i know! but i'm sure i made my feelings on this particular subject matter crystal. rock on zenmeister!! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

ramon: as long as it's zigenbock! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" can we count on you for those "tight" shots?

To: riggerrob, and jfields, et:al; the "attitude(s)" you guys exude mean nothing to anyone in this ever litigious society, there's really no reason for ridicule or sarcasm here. the plain and simple truth is this, we all know that what we do for "shits and giggles" may cause a life threatening injury, or loss of life, etc...if any sky divers are not aware of this, then they need to get out now, instead of getting out at 13,500K. the lawsuits will, if they persists, and prevail, cause an untimely demise to our beloved sport of skydiving. i know of several tragic loss of life, and personal events that happened just this year, one of those loss of life incidents is resulting in lawsuits right now, and my heart goes out to those of the families left behind. but at the end of the day, we ALL know about the infamous "last page" on the disclaimer/indeminity phrase on the stack of legal forms that we all sign BEFORE jumping and/or participating in this particular endeavour, i think that's about all that needs to be said on this subject. of course there are many extenuating circumstances that could contribute to your death/dissmemberment/paralasis//// but if the pilot is hung over, or the jump master obviously still uti from the previous nights formalities, etc....don't fucking jump! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" P.S. i did not participate in the "poll" because it's (in my opinion) an exercise in futility.

i don't fly camera, but have been in the sport long enough to tell you, get some training from a competant individual, on equipment, and flying teqniques. fully expect the drag, and rudder effects, and extra weight to change your freefall, learn how to fly on your back, headdown, stand, etc...before strapping a camera on. your helmet, and your new flight suit (with wings of your choice) is your key selection, make sure it has a "single" release system, deployment time will be your new "challenge" when you start flying camera, lines will (can, i should say) become entangled on your equipment, then, jet helmet? cut away main? deploy reserve? just some thoughts for you. don't be like a couple of camera fliers i know, i heard this one guy say "if i go in, i'm going in looking good, because i'm not going to take my helmet off, that's $5000.00!" if you want to fly camera, cool, but don't ever fly something that your not willing to "Jet" in case of a malfunction. start practicing jumping from the "video step/position" on the jumpship now, before you get your equipment, if it's feasable. take care, good luck! zennie: i am interested in the pat works writings though, would you be so kind as to inform me where i could obtain his writings? thanks. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

i don't have the nerve either! i'll admit it! plus i want to see the plane fly away, and watch the other jumper exit after me, to get a count for myself, of elapsed time before there exit, (i'll most all the time do a back to earth exit, just for this) then i like watching the otter "dive" to get away from the released jumpers, and if i had my eyes shut i'd miss all that fun stuff! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

A good drill dive that I was taught for solo's was to climb out like you are going to do a poised exit, then close your eyes. Exit the plane and roll forward into the relative wind, keep your eyes closed. When you start to come off of the hill you should be feeling an equal amount of resistance on both sides of your body (I fly the daffy position so that means both legs should be feeling the same amount of pressure). Just relax and remember to keep your hands below your elbows and concentrate on flying with your legs. Fifteen seconds later open your eyes, are you headdown? either i'm on the verge of learning something here myself, or someone gave you some questionable advice. i've never heard of anyone being told to keep there eyes closed. how do you know if your head down position if your eyes are closed? your talking about 15 seconds as well, as free fliers we travel at faster speeds than formation jumpers, 2 ways, 3 ways, etc...one day, your going to have your eyes closed, and open them to find out you have unexpected company. i was taught to keep your eyes on the horizon when in this position, and then of course if you wish, transcend into sit, back, or backtrack away before deployment. i'm not saying your doing the wrong thing here, i'm just saying i've never heard of it. take care Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

Before I liked everyone. Hummmmmm... Hearts and Flowers. Now, I read a thread and ..Shreik! ... here we go again. So now I just skip over this persons posts. could this be some of what i speak of in my posts? funny, on this person's website, it says, "come up and say hello, that's if i don't come up to you first" if you have something to say, then say it. Richard

treetop: please visit aggiedave's thread on "skydiving community?" Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" P.S. i think this young woman is doing a fine thing for the people, and we should be following her example, good going taya.

dave: since you posted this, it's gotten 111 views, and 10 posts, 11 including mine. i noticed what you speak of long before the forum. i started sky diving last october, i didn't even know about dropzone.com until the spring of this year. it has been my observation that the sport resembles very much a "country club" atmosphere. ie: who are you, what type of job do you have, who are your friends, who's got the nicest car, rig, flight suit, best color coodination, who can fly this better, that better, who's got the most jumps, who flies the smallest canopy, who swoops the fastest, who's got the best website, best camera equipment, i could go on and on. loners are not well recieved, and are ignored for the most part. i've witnessed (and have been a part of, here, anyway, never on the d.z.) a lot of vindictive, hostile snobby behaviour/attitudes on the DZ's, and in here. now, i just ignore it, on the DZ, i make every effort to be congenial and friendly, especially to the newbies, loners and the affluent, i don't "look down my nose" at anyone. i wish there were something we could do to change this, i'm not sure what it would be, any ideas anyone? i thought long, and hard before speaking my heart here today, and i'll be pleaseantly surprised if i don't get torched. but it's my effort to not ignore, and address the situation you brought to light. i'm sure, all of us could do a little "self examination" and i don't know of anyone who could say with a clean consience that they don't have room for improvement. it's time to be a little more friendly, a lot less hostile, and become kinder, gentler sky diving souls, let's let the golfer's have the "country club" peace to all through these holiday seasons. I was going for a wild ride. Popped the RSL, leaned as far out of the turn as possible, grabbed the risers to pull apart --------------------------------------------------- these words were written by another poster in your forum just right above this one a few paragraphs/posts whatever. now you know why i fell "cut out of the herd" i shall not speak on this subject again. Remi: PLEASE refer to my posts to Merrick. i emphasized the fact that i had never thought of it that way, and made reference to the way the sim states it, why in the hell are we "beating a dead horse?" i added a dissclaimer as well, and added that in the end the student needs to listen to there jump masters, what else can i do? each dz employs different methods of beginner and progression methods, which often include very different termonology than the sim, maybe because that's the way that the particular dive master likes it, i don't know. cut me some slack.........whadduya say? i'm not out to reinvent the wheel, although i am an engineer by trade, and i do have my own ideas about handling different circumstances. you have now made mention of my partials again, i tried to explain how they were happening, and what types they were. this i know for a fact, i am a safe sky diver, have never been injured, and have never injured anyone else, in fact i'm also an EMT/Paramedic and tend to injured jumpers on the drop zone all the time. (two shoulder seperations in two weekends, back to back) i try my level best to help out anyone who asks, but i am not in the position to continue litigation with you, or anyone else in this particular forum, if i want a good argument, all i have to do is go wake up my wife right now. you ask anyone who knows me, if thev'e ever seen me do anything unsafe, see what you find out. and no, i won't confuse anyone either, unless there not paying attention to there drop zone divemasters, and doing there own research in the sim, but they to, will one day have opinions of there own. can you honestly say that you go along with everything in the sim, verbatim? we are all entitled to our own opinions, why should i be any different? have a safe and happy holiday season. Richard "Gravity is My Friend"

billyvon: are you implying that someone is going to be influenced to not cut away a streamer because of my reference? that's absurd. if a jumper doesn't cutaway from a streamer, i don't know what to say. i tried correcting myself by referring to the sim, but obviously it's not good enough for you, play fair now. read ALL the post, instead of just select little bits and taking them out of context. thanking you in advance for you kind help. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
-
billvon: please see my response to merrick, ok? and i did add that if i dissconnect my RSL, that it is my plan, and i DO NOT advise others to do as i am doing, this is my plan, and mine alone, although i did learn it elsewhere. despite what gets attention in this forum, the student should listen to the certified jump masters that are teaching them. i am not above learning myself, but i could do without the sarcasm, and being "pounced upon" by numerous individuals. i also related to what the sky diving manuel said about the totals, and partials, i thought i had it covered from all angles, guess not, huh? dave: i didn't get to make it, because the weather here wasn't looking good, so i figured there was no way we'd be jumping, plus it rained so hard the day before, i didn't want to get muddy! i'll be there this weekend, see ya there. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend" p.s. zennie, is this thread breaking a .com record, as having the most entries, or longest life?? YEAH!!

slappie: where in the sam hill do you come up with all this funnie shit? that's faily humerous! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

you guys come to sky dive houston and do this, we had one guy, on his 100th jump, and his SCR do it naked, so there already trained! he just wrapped his canopy around him self on the walk back, it was a hoot! plus, I DARE YA'LL!!! that would be worth some money to see you guys in drag, but how would you keep your wigs on in free fall? velcro? i got an idea, ya'll do the jump, we'll get some video, and we'll plan a raffle, just gotta figure out something to give away, any ideas? it's a hell of a funny idea, and it sounds like it would be fun, i'd participate, but i'd look like jethrine on the beverly hillbillys LOL :) then i'd be stuck with double super ugly chikdude or something like that. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

phreezone: yes, i have been under two violently spinning canopys, both of them my own, the same one i fly now. one, the brake came unstowed during deployment, and the other because the left steering line had about a gazillion twists in it causing the canopy to spin out of control upon deployment, (my own fault, back packing procedures, new procedure, untwists steering lines, each jump!!) the first time this happned to me, yeah, it was really scary, the second time, it was still scary, but i had this "been there, done that" feeling going on, so it wasn't that bad, although i didn't like flying in a spiraling downplane configuration with my canopy. on both occasions, i did get my RSL dissconnected first, before anything else successfully, but was able to "clear the mal(s)" before emergency procedures, which i did not have to employ. i want to add, this is my plan AND I DO NOT RECCOMEND IT TO ANYONE ELSE! i make it a habit to always know where the tab is just for that, but again, that's just me.let me also add that on some dives, i dissconnect it entirely, before the dive.
