Greg is "DALAILAMA" in these forums. Karen Morrison was my "new guy" tracking partner in 1993. I feel old - I'm going to take my nap now. Arrive Safely John

  5. Look at the attached screen shot. I just went into every forum listed there except for Incidents, using the "Forums" tab at the top of the page to get back to the category list each time. In the top four forums I opened the thread listed on the right as having the most recent activity. Notice that none of the red numbers changed! HH, this makes moderating a pain in the ass! 6. Looking at the date, I would say that speaks to the employees that do not want to make the move to from Florida to Raeford, North Carolina. Just an educated guess. Arrive Safely John
  7. From the Forums category list, if a particular forum listing has a red number in front of it, then I go into that forum and then to a fresh view of the category list, quite often the numbers are not clearing. Arrive Safely John

    ATMONAUTI

Folks - this is the Instructors Forum. Quoting the site owner: That being said, this thread needs to be put back on track. Discussing Atmonauti as a discipline (or not) and its intruction are the points here. Please save all the funny one liners for Bonfire. Thanks. Arrive Safely John
  10. I politely ask them to move. If they are not near their cart I will move it out of the way myself. I get some interesting looks when I do that, but I don't think it's too much to ask someone to respect the fact that they are sharing a common space with others. Last weekend some dickhead parked his truck on the side of the entrance road to the movie theater - dead in the way of traffic. Anyone coming in had to wait for opposing traffic to clear to be able to go around him. My wife saw who they were but I didn't. All this because he was too lazy to park in back of the theater where there were spaces availeble. When the movie was over we came outside to find them standing around wondering where there truck went (it got towed). Arrive Safely John
  11. James Taylor and His Band of Legends I saw him Wednesday night in Raleigh; the third show on this tour. He and this hand-picked band recorded a live CD of cover tunes back in January which is due out later in the year. This is very different for him - not playing covers, but having an album full of them. The band is huge - 12 players including JT. Among them are drummer Steve Gadd, a VERY well known and versatile session drummer that I remember from his brilliant performance on Steely Dan's "Aja;" and "Blue Lou" Marini of Blues Brothers fame (who now looks like Albert Einstein). They played a lot of the covers - probably 8-10 tunes. The best of them was "Wichita Lineman," and old Glenn Campbell tune. There were a couple of really sleepy ones I could have done without, including "On Broadway" by the Drifters, which NOBODY does better than George Benson (nobody). There was a good mix of his old favorites and some of his recent stuff, but some tunes were noticeably absent, like "Fire and Rain." Lots of interaction with the audience (which he has always done - such a goof). He even added a song to his set list by request of a lady in the front ("Mighty Storm"). Three encore reappearances, the first of which he spent time on his knees at the edge of the stage signing autographs. He is a class act. Honestly, I enjoyed him better when I saw him in 1990 in Vermont. There was more of his own stuff, the venue was tiny, and he played for us in the steady light rain. The arrangements with the big band are cool though, and Steve Gadd just plain kicks ass. Arrive Safely John
  12. First, a rule of thumb for everyone: always reply directly to the post you are referring to (directly to the person you are talking to) in a post, not just the last reply in a string. Most of the valuable content that gets culled from a thread because a post above it was removed by a Moderator happens because of this. The good post falls in the string below the bad one: ORIGINAL GOOD GOOD GOOD GOOD GOOD BAD GOOD (will go out with the trash) GOOD (will go out with the trash) If the Moderator catches the garbage post early enough, editing is an option. If the garbage has turned into multiple replies, it's just too much work. If it's only one or two good posts that got removed, I will copy and paste each post into a PM to the original poster so he can put it back again. If there are too many of those, again it's just too much work. Arrive Safely John

  16. I just saw a piece on the jump on ABC News. They don't have the balloon pulled out yet, which is said to take 3-4 hours to prepare and inflate, and he has about a 2 hour pre-breathe before launch. ABC interviewed COL (Ret.) Joe Kittinger about his jump and about Colonel (Ret.) Fournier's jump as well. It is always great to see him on camera - I saw him in person once and it was a treat. Bonne chance to Colonel (Ret.) Fournier. Arrive Safely John

  19. I think I remember that one . . . I never saw the video but I talked to someone who did. She had no idea it had happened until she saw the video. She sued for something like $90K and won. I have only done that once - to my wife - and I asked her permission. The picture is great. Arrive Safely John
  20. Doh! I remember being there at CSS the day before and being invited to participate but I had to leave the day of the jumps to go do Army stuff. Arrive Safely John
