  3. Closest to Jacksonville is Tradewind Sky Sports in "Little" Washington, about 60 miles North. Skydive Coastal Carolinas in Oak Island is 68 miles south.

  9. If you have something that wil help me - round canopy control diagrams from an old Parachutist for example - that would be great. Arrive Safely John
  10. Those jumpers landed downwind on purpose and depended much more on ideal wind conditions than we do today with our modern ram-air canopies. This project involves fine-tuning round canopy control techniques for the safest possible landing into the wind and free of obstacles. Do you have an old Parachutist from the 1960's with the type of graphical representation I am looking for? Arrive Safely John
  11. I made a couple of jumps out of an RCAF Buffalo (CC-115) at an airshow in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1993. It was a great aircraft. We used the ramp (of course) for the jump, but spotted the left door. Both doors have a huge bubble window for spotting (even with my horse head), made easier by a nice swing out seat and a comms panel night next to the leading edge (used a headset to send corrections straight to the pilot. It was cold for the first jump of the day, but the heater was blasting away keeping us warm. I threw WDIs out of the little recloseable porthole in the paratroop door. On a side note, if you ever get to see a live demonstration of the RCAF Twin Otters' STOL takeoff and landing capability it is amazing! Arrive Safely John

  15. The rumour is true. They should have started digging yesterday. It's going in across the runway from the jumpers' windsock. Arrive Safely John
  16. I am working on a project and looking for some good instructional documentation - graphics illustrating crabbing techniques in particular - on canopy control for "steerable" round canopies (and yes, I use that term loosely). If anyone has anything worthwhile from their training archives please shoot me a PM. Thanks, Arrive Safely John

  21. I removed all of the off-topic chatter and locked the thread so that only the announcement remains. If anyone wants to talk to me, please send me a PM. If you have problems with the way this thread was handled, please PM sangiro or j_ung. If there are any updates to the status of reuniting the canopy with its owner, send them to me and I will be happy to add them to the thread. Arrive Safely John
