  10. -I was a Demonstrator on the Gold Demonstration Team during the '92, '93, '94 show seasons. -I went through tryouts with Chuck's wife and spent two years on the road with her as my teammate. -I was also a tryout cadre member when John Hoover came through. -Yes, they should compete. If not allowed at Nationals, then who would they compete with? Unlike the Olympics, these lads have no other professionally competitive league to return to where they land multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts. -Yes, they have a GREAT deal. Is it an unfair advantage? I don't know enough about other teams like AZ AS to make a comparison. It IS, however, an opportunity open to anyone willing to join the Army and give it a shot. -Yes, they spend your tax dollars (and their own) to skydive for a living. -Yes, it is a GREAT life. -Yes, I have spent time "out of the public eye" (and out of uniform) rolling on the ground, as it were. I get to have a life too. -We could not get tunnel time my first year...years 2 and 3 we trained during off hours (usually 0400-0600) and only a couple of times a year. -I am crushed that Betsy would not be impressed with the likes of me
  11. Stay safe, paal . . . see you in January for some jumps in NoRmAl weather! Arrive Safely John
  12. Static Line: Ft. Benning, GA, C-141...the NOISE from the jet engines that turned into the stillness of a quiet T-10 canopy ride. Free Fall: Ft. Bragg, NC, CH-53...looking over the edge of the ramp and thinking "What the HELL am I doing?" then being interrrupted by my Instructor''s polite "GO!" Arrive Safely John

  20. After consulting Aggie at Sun Path, I Scotch Guarded my new Odyssey with two coats of medium (red cap), spraying (as posted above) about 8-12" away. Make sure and shake the can well before and during the application. Let it dry overnight (several hours) before applying the next coat. It will still get dirty, just not as much, and it will clean up better as well. Arrive Safely John
  21. I do 3 or 4 a year, always with people who have done tandems before, or experienced jumpers riding on the front. I will get the drogue out by 7000 FT, then release the drogue by 4500 FT. Next time I do one with someone beefy like me, I want to wear a Pro-Track and see how fast we are going. Another thing I will do . . . for first time tandem students that have no video: if they have been VERY nervous or scared about the exit or doing everything just right, I will fly the exit with them for 7 or 8 seconds, then give them high praises on the ground for nailing it. That always brings smiles! Arrive Safely John
  22. I met this guy at Symposium in Jan '01 in San Diego. He's not nuts . . . just really ballsy and extremely smart in a mechanically creative sort of way. Pay particular attention to the R.U.S.H. project. http://www.rocketguy.com/flash.html Up, up, and away! Arrive Safely John
