I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the base specific gear out there. It's a matter of opinion on what each person likes. Tom Manship summed it up best after I was talking to him about the larger canopies. He said,"Try them all out and find the one that suits your jumping style." This is really hard to do unless you live by the potato bridge. So get opinions from the other EXPERIENCED jumpers in your area. Then make your decision. My 2 cents is get a pin rig first. I prefer the Gargoyle myself because of the shape of the container. It most resembles my pack job. Thicker at the bottom and gets narrower toward the top. It's easy to close and I just think it's a damn fine looking rig. As far as a canopy goes thats a hard one. I'm still looking for the perfect canopy. And it's also a matter of opinion of each jumper. I prefer the FOX over the FLIK. I like the TROLL DW MDV slightly more than I do the FOX. I should have my Black Jack in a week or so (HINT ADAM) which I bought because of many recommendations from experienced jumpers who have jumped several different canopies. (You guys had better be right) I have not jumped the Rock Dragon so I don't know anything about it but jumpers that I have talked to who own them seem to like them. All said and done I would still jump the FOX anywhere. So, if you find that perfect canopy please let me know. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

It's good to see that your not driving on expired plates like you were in Moab not long ago. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

I think your absolutely right on that one. I only have an exit weight of 235 lbs so the larger 300+ square foot canopies are ok for me, but I think it's high time someone designs a BASE canopy for the bigger jumpers. Not just scale a 240sq ft up to 300 sq ft or more. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

Get what you want the first time. Who cares about the wait when your getting what you want. I know the wait is a little longer with Morpheus Tech. right now but well, well worth it. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

Congrats Tom and Cheri. I wish you three the best!

The soft-shells work great. I like them better than the windstopper fleece because stick-tights and other vegetation don't stick to the outer layer. LL Bean has the Headwall Soft-Shell Jacket on sale for $100.00 right now. Good deal, and they have the best return policy I've ever seen if you don't like it. I was thinking about starting a different thread but this kind of goes with whats being said. If not Tom will move it. While at the Turkey Boogie last month I noticed SEVERAL jumpers who needed to work on their deep brake settings. Cliffs are not the place to find out that they are not deep enough. Truth be told, it took a object strike for me to get serious about my deep brakes. It's not to be taken lightly! "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

If he's jumping 370 square foot canopies, it's unlikely he's going to get the package price. Oops, I've got to quit drinking and posting at the same time. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

Have you looked into the Gargoyle/Troll package from Morpheus Technologies? www.baserigs.com You can get a new Troll DW MDV with a Gargoyle for under $2200.00. You might have to wait 14 weeks but it's worth it. Rob and Kathy take good care of their customers. The Gargoyle is a great pin rig and the Troll seems to be holding it's own with other BASE canopies. I only have about 20 jumps on the Troll DW MDV and over twohundred on a FOX. I have nothing bad to say about the Troll. I for sure like the slider off openings of the Troll DW MDV better than the FOX V-Tec. Both are great canopies though. My two cents. A sweet freefall from "Welshmens Walk" holds number one in Moab for me. Easy or no hike to exit. Killer ground rush. And a easy hike out. Plus, it's close to town so you can get to the "Brewery" faster. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

I think that's a great Idea. Have a first aid class the day before the boogie. I'm in. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

Marty had I believe a 180 or close to that off the pizza rock the day before. People on the ground said he handled it well and landed safetly. I think I know someone who has video of that. I was standing next to Marty as he was preparing to exit the next day. He started to go and then stopped asking where the landing area was. After I pointed it out he helled "Hellfish" as he exited going hand held. The sound of his opening sounded just like it did the day before, not like everyone elses. So I looked over the edge to see Marty flying parallel with the wall. No big deal I thought but his canopy started to turn slowly toward the cliff. I would say he had a full four seconds or more before he impacted the wall. I would assume he had line twist high enough he could not climb up to correct his heading. I wish him the best. "Wet Willy" water tower "Road Rage" billboard "The Hood" B in the bad part of town. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

Directly above the vent, inside of the canopy. If I understand your question. There are three different style valves that I know of.

Just getting home from the Turkey Boogie and having for the first time being able to jump my Troll DW MDV 285 and FOX 285 V-tec back to back I must agree. I would need video to tell if the Troll opens (pressurizes) faster but it definitely doesn't open as hard.

Been thinking about getting a 300+ canopy. Was wanting a little feed back from those jumpers who have the larger canopies. I'm looking into either a FOX 315, Troll 305, Black Jack 310, or a Rock Dragon 313. (I've only jumped FOX, Flik, and Trolls) My body weight is 205 lbs. This is for slider off only. Vents are a must. My concern is that these large canopies are on the outer edge of the original design as far as size is concerned. How big can you make a parachute that might have been designed as a 245 before it needs to be put back on the drawing board. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

I'm with you on that one. I sold my other containers and now have three Gargoyles.
-
Maybe you should go hug a tree... I'm not hugging "Tree", he's not my type.
-
Maybe you should try it first to make sure it's safe for the cat.

Thanks Clint, I'll buy the first round. "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"

This person just sent me this e-mail in a reply to a FOX canopy I have for sale. *** As regards payment, this is what i am going to do.I have a client who is owing me $2,500 i would instruct him to makeout a certified check/Money Order to you in that amount and as soon as it clears your bank. you can now deduct your money from it and send me my balance via western union ,i will be using part of the money to pay for the shipping and other expenses ..Although the value of the check is more than the asking price but i think i should be able to trust you with my balance. So if my terms are acceptable to you,i would like you to give me your full name, address and phone number so that i can instruct my client to make out the check to you. Pls get back to me as soon as you get this mail so that we can round things up in a timely fashion. Thanks in this regard Belinda. -
From what I have seen I think the .7 to .75 range seems to be the best. I like to load my terminal canopy a little heavy because I'm more likely to jump in higher winds on a slider up jump. And at the time I bought my FOX canopys a 285 was the biggest size they had. I'm seriously thinking about up sizing. Alot depends on what will fit into my containers. I would like to try a Black Jack 310 but haven't ruled out any other canopys yet. Or I need to go on a serious diet. *** "When it comes to BASE, I'll never give advice, only my opinion"
