agreed. here in elsinore yesterday the smoke made it's way all the way down to us, i felt like my head was in a chimney all day, my eyes hurt. This morning we woke up to clear skies, but as the Santa Ana winds are picking up, we can see the layer of smoke engulfing areas north of us, and it's getting closer. i wonder if i'll make it home to s. pas... peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Bridge day was great. Many thanks to Jason and Jen and all the volunteers and staff who made it happen. Also thanks to everyone who has already placed their order for the video. We tried the new angle from the ground up to the exit point with a huge lense not knowing how it would turn out... and it turned out great. We got lots of compliments on the video we showed saturday night from that perspective. Burrito Rodriguez did a fabulous job on that camera all day. Thanks to the entire video crew, it was a huge success and Ed couldn't have done this without you and your sweet cameras. We had 6 continuous cameras and additional footage. There were at least 3 cameras on the exit point for the entire 6 hours, 1 from the basket, 1 from the top of the bridge, and the one from the ground looking up. Cajones also did other perspectives of the exit with the Swain Cam. There were at least 2 cameras on the ground to catch all the landings. If you landed in the main area, we got it. We really think we covered ourselves with redundancy, and we've tried to do it in such a way that it is easy to edit to meet our goal of finishing around xmas time. On a personal note, Tom, great meeting you again... sorry i didn't make the connection the first time! Alana, good to see you, we still need to jump. To the spinning mal guy, (sorry i'm bad with names), we are all glad you missed that great big rock!!! We have the entire jump from at least 3 angles. To everyone, sorry we didn't get to be more social... work took a lot of time. Thanks for all the orders we've received already. Big thanks to Consolidated Rigging, Inc.!! hey... if you want transportation while you are there, i got a sweet deal a couple years ago when i flew into phoenix... to make a long story short, i look up rental car places in the yellow pages, and found a place open on xmas day, and rented a pick-up truck for $120 for the WHOLE WEEK! It was awesome. I can't remember the name of the place, but if you want a car, look up places in the yellow pages and ask around, don't call the major ones at the airport like Hertz and National and all those, they're a rip-off. ok, good luck. if you just want a ride, keep posting and ask, lots of people are going and someone will probably be able to pick you up peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Depends on what you want to shoot and how you want to set up your cameras... I have a narrow, which is nice, i wanted it for the lighter weight. But after some thought about my set-up, Video on top, stills on Front, I think it might have been better to put stills vertically mounted side by side on top, in which case I think my narrow is too narrow for that and would create snag points if I hung part of each camera over the edge of the platform. Also, if you start to consider using a flash, you'll need room for it. peace http://www.exitshot.com

where to stay for Eloy over Xmas and other qu's on the boogie...
lewmonst replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
um, there's lots of eloy threads... but basically to answer your question, it is VERY VERY cold at night. Most people who start out in tents, if they survive a couple nights end up getting a hotel room or something. That and as it gets more crowded, the showers run out of hot water, and it's unbearable in the morning to shower. And the shower rooms aren't heated either. It's SOO cold. The bunkhouse is probably the worst bunkhouse of anything i've ever stayed in, at least it was last time i was there last year. The heaters aren't very strong, it's still cold in there, and gets very gross during the boogie, lots of drunk smelly people... your best bet is to find people to split a hotel room with. You can survive camping, but it's painful. There's a WalMart in Casa Grande, about a 10-15 minute drive. THere are always people goin, so you can hitch rides no problem. parties are ok, but secluded, you kinda have to know people and know where they are. The new years party is good. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com -

Just though I'd add some photos of Bob landing from his Tandem and the family and friends of Rob. I can't think of a more fitting way for Mr. Tonnesen to connect with his son one last time. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

at first i thought, nahhh... not just a skydiver... and my only jumpsuit was cut off of me. then i thought, maybe i wear the shredded suit and get fake blood and like that thing you stick to you that looks like bones are coming out of you... except I'm still not repacked, so my gear is all over... peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

doh, no, i meant any costume in general... http://www.exitshot.com

Sweet! I love that idea! But I have NO idea where to get anything. What type of budget do I need to have??? and what the heck does a warrior angel look like anyway??? I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at a private school near LA. some of my kids are in movies and some of their parents are. I also like the rapunzel idea, but I still don't know where to begin for a costume. And I've gone into some of those costume stores, yeah, One Size Fits all my ass! I can't even fit into the men's costume, much less the womens'. Alrighty Rosa, we'll definately talk! thanks for everyone's suggestions, including the pop-tart, that's funny. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

hey Gimp... what's the matter, you're not running into them yet??? i'm shocked! I don't know about a wingsuit, I've only ever flown camera in my freefly suit. I have a good range in it. I must say though, getting that shot is hard and takes practice. Like Duece said, be aggressive. You won't get better without it. Also, remember, the video is about the passenger, not the Tandem Instructor, while it's nice to have both perfectly in frame and faces visible, sacrifice the good angle of the instructor and get the face shot of the passenger. Like Miami said, you need to get down below the tandem and look up. So start stretching your back and doing yoga or whatever, cause you will be sore if you are really down there looking up. I am always sore after a day of tandem videos, way moreso than fun jumps, no matter what type of fun jumps they are. You should be a couple feet below them, looking up, to get the good money shot of the passenger. Then it's fun to mix it up, float and get a quick shot, dock on the tandem and spin them, pop up and get the drogue, do a barrel roll (i'm still not perfect at keeping them in the frame on that one yet...) Practice. Practice. Practice. and then, practice some more. I'm still trying to get better, tighter, more creative... Being a freeflyer helps on exits, but your flying a hard belly slot for most of the dive, unless you get on your back/butt... I've only flown sit with a few really reall heavy guys. ok peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
