Memorial Day Boogie (cross posted from the BASE Board)
AntiPinkChrissy replied to JohnnyUtah's topic in Archive
I was on top the bridge when Russel made his jump, what a cool thing to see. My boyfriend Sporto happened to snap that pic while we were waiting for the winds to drop down. Perfect time to do a water landing! ~La La Gang Member #2~ -
I can't wait for the boogie, it is going to be a blast!! I think the one thing that weege didn't mention is our large landing area with plentiful outs. Looking forward to meeting some new people, especially these SGC peeps I have been hearing so much about, we have a great vibe at the dz and can't wait to share it with others ~La La Gang Member #2~

Since I live in Michigan and being so close to Canada and yuppers, I thought the 'eh' was hilarious. Yes, I was jumping when the winds weren't sucky. I got 9 in for the weekend, what a blast. I think I was doing video and pictures for some friends when you went off or else I would have seen you at the bottom. Bummer we didn't meet up later. I can't wait until next year ~La La Gang Member #2~

Well, I wasn't at the bar, but I was up until 1am working on stuff at ho me then at work at 7am...that counts for something right? Make sure you bring alcohol to the dz this weekend...looks like that is all we will be doing this weekend ~La La Gang Member #2~

Jump #9? Did barrell roll on exit, flipped on back but pulled in a timely manner. (yep, that was my first clear and pull for me, I went back on the dope rope after that) Jump #23? Trees are for Squirrels. ~La La Gang Member #2~

I never thought I'd be speaking for Ron, but I think his point is that if the danger was taken more seriously, incidents would happen less frequently. As a newbie, I always hear that in the "old days", gear failure fatalites were common... but now that those are almost things of the past, the new killer is low turns - something which can be prevented by giving people the right knowledge and attitude. I think that's what Ron's trying to do... I'm taking a guess that that is his point too. Also why take on additional risks that make this sport even more dangerous. Like jumping a canopy above your ability, jumping in bad conditions, going on a jump that you don't have the experience to be on and not having a plan for when the sh*t hits the fan. ~La La Gang Member #2~

Same here. And also a handful that have broken themselves and will probably never jump again or it will take quite some healing time. One of the suckiest parts is I know that there will be more ~La La Gang Member #2~

whaatt...no love for the rest of us Tecumseh peeps? ~La La Gang Member #2~

I will definately have to do a bunch of solos. I guess before I saw them as kind of a waste since I couldn't really 'see' what I was doing. But you are right they are a great learning tool plus that way I can try new things without worrying about other people. I am lucky too that my boyfriend is one kickass freeflyer and he has taught me sooo much so far. Believe me I would love to!! Every Fall and Winter I wonder why I live in Michigan. I will be in Florida a few times for sure this winter though, we will have to meet up then! ~La La Gang Member #2~

Denise- Thanks for sharing! What you say does make a lot of sense. I have been reading your HD progress (way to go by the way) so it is very helpful to hear what you have to say since your experiences are relatively recent and it seems like you have had similiar hurdles in your progress. I guess I wanted to make sure I'm not *wasting* my time doing things they way I am or that I would be wasting time by changing things up a bit. I have gotten a handful of coaching jumps when I first started playing around with HD. They were the best thing I could have done since I am learning with the correct body position. I think my biggest problem at this point is I have not done enough solos, I think I have only done a couple actually. I guess sometimes I find them lonely! LOL! Definately safety first, I know to track off the windline and transition every 5 seconds or so. I actually went out on a HD jump this weekend with a friend and instead of backsliding away like usual, I was pushing into him, I thought this was an accomplishment! WW- Are you trying to say I need to hit the gym! HA, just kidding. And of course I asked Sporto's opinion, I can never get enough info though! I think my lazy legs are coming along slowly but surely. I think I am getting closer to finding that 'balancing' point. Edited to add: the FF pants I do have create drag. They are made my da'kine and are double layered, I did use them once on a HD jump, it was a solo turned 2 way out of a 182. When the person let go of me on that dive, I stayed right in place whereas I usually squirt backwards, I figured it was the pants that helped me. ~La La Gang Member #2~
