I had my first balloon jump this Saturday. It was great. Jumped @ 3.000" - free-fall time = 10 s The only thing I didn’t expected was the opening. I was not in terminal velocity so; the canopy took 5 s to be fully opened!!! Landed in a farm.

Ok, friend I was kidding, you are right. I know skydive kills and is one of the most dangerous sports one person can do. But one guy at my club, and he used to play everyday, just passed away playing squash. He had a heart attack in the middle of the court. When your time comes, nobody can hold you here.

I scuba dive, I do moto trail, I use to go around with my mountain bike and I play squash. Moto Trail (4 visits to the hospital), scuba (never had problem), mountain bike (some bruises), skydive (1 pulled muscule). But squash is the most dangerous sport ever! I was knocked by my buddies few times, I almost had three balls instead of the two I was born and lost count how many muscule pulled while playing.

What things have landed (crashed) near you?
mazevedo replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One shoe (from one of the skydivers that was on the load and cutway - like 30 feet) One plastic circle (girls use to play turning it with their waist - I don´t know the name in english). We were using it to pass inside the circle while in freefall - it was a contest - the two-way who pass more times throw the circle won the contest. And one of the guys didn´t grab it when he pulled. -
I throw, wait 2 secs and then I look back. But for students, I recommend to always look back. When I was doing my AFF I pulled and the free bag was stucked in the vacuum (behind my back) I looked at my instructor face and he was laughting at my scared face!!!

5:0:0 Five jumps this saturday (the weather was great!!!) 1 FF 4 finishing my BBF

Look at this funny story: I was doing my AFP leve 2 (tandem) and I was very cold. I adviced my instructor but he just told me to jump anyway (the DZ is a little bit far from the city and it would be a waist of time not jumping). Well I almost had my eardrums perforated and the mucus was all over my face. And of course, my instructor face. The other 4 levels were ok (the mucus was over!!!).

I have only 56 jumps and I am very proud of it. And I would be embarassed if I post something that I was supose to know with plenty of jumps. We are here to learn with experienced people, why the fu... lie? Everybody who jump from a perfect airplane, even tandem jumps, had alrealdy proved for themselves they can do it. See u down the hill.

Try the RAWA!!! This link is in english http://aerostore.com/Shopping/Items.asp?ACTION=DISPLAY&Category=9

NEVER TRY TO USE EAR PLUGS!!! You will have a barotrauma (see the article at the bottom) I know that pressures comparing scuba dive against skydive are very different but that ear plugs can easily stuck in your ears. Try to use that nose plugs (used by sincronized swimmers) to compensate during freefall or find yourself a doctor. I almost have my eardrum perforated jumping with sinus. http://www.deeperblue.net/article.php/202/12

Here we have to pack with 120 days - Just like the USPA
-
I allways repack on time but talking with some guys, I noticed that plenty of them do not repack with 120 days. They usually wait until 180 or even more. Blue skies

6:0:1 4 freefly solo 1 freefly two way 1st freefly coached jump (just improve my sitfly skills) One pack - On the 1st jump I had to jump the beer line (first time) while landing. Didn´t jump on sunday (was with a huge hangover) Blue skies

Thank you all for the answers! It really cleared my mind! Blue skies

Does anybody knows about the Hornet canopie? Who is the manufactor, etc. What do you think about changing one Sabre 170 to a Hornet 170? Thanks and blue skies

My AFF was ok, but when I was doing my first solo jump, I dived and tried to get into a front looping at the same time (it was not a good idea) I started to turn like crazy and there was anyone there to help me. Well I had 45 s to relax and get to a stable position. It is very simple! Relax and arc. You will be ok! Blue skies.

Does skydiving affect your view on mortality?
mazevedo replied to weezil1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If I thought I could die, I would not even start jumping from "perfectly good airplanes". Who say something like - you are nut! - spend their weekends watching television, eating popcorn and scratching their .... -
New Skydiver's Question...About Reserve Chute

Have you ever been injured while skydiving?
mazevedo replied to Clownburner's topic in Safety and Training
My leg muscle pulled on landing. Went to ER, nothing special but it was one month away from DZ. Actually I guess I had that muscule pulled playing soccer (these sports can be really dangerous!!!). -
I DID IT! I tried a swim goggle once. I didn´t realize that I could have mask squeeze (and look guys, I am a scuba diver, too). Well I don´t know why, but someone in the plane advised me, and I really lost one jump trying to put air inside the goggle. I took off the airplane, did a front looping and sit. I remmember to compensate and went in a dorso flying, went back to the sit position and then give up (the pressure was incresing) got on the box position and waited for the time to pull. The next day, I bought a new skydive goggle. Well, I own you few bucks. I thought I lost this jump until now that I am sharing it with you. Blue skies...

Lineover - When it comes on your reserve?
mazevedo replied to mazevedo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I heard a lot about how to proceed when you have a lineover, but I didn`t find anything when it happens on your reserve. I saw a b.a.s.e. video and the jumper used a hooknife to solve the problem. I guess it is the only way to do if you are in low altitude. This would be a good procedure to use on your main? As if you try to fix it with flares or turns maybe you will have your canopy burned. And if you cutaway its not 100% chances that your reserve will open. Blue skies -
Thank you guys for the comments! It will be very helpfull. My rig (the old Dolphin - 1996) is very well maintained and the velcros are in excellent conditions and I will take care to keep that way. I thought RSL and Steven´s Lanyard were the same thing, too. Let me know if I understood. My rig is not recommended for FF but its new (few jumps), so I can use it if I keep the velcros in good conditions, but it is better to have the RSL disconected to prevent any problem (and I will read the articles about it to discuss with my rigger). Thanks again and blue skies!
-
I have bought my first rig (Dolphin - sabre 170 - tempo 170 reserve) and my rigger just told me to take off the stevens system because sometimes it causes early (reserve) deployment and the static line can stuck in your helmet. I am starting on freefly and problably I will be jumping with camera in the future.

You have to relax, try to concentrate on your legs. Feeling unstable arch more and more. I know you will get there. Forget about your fears and concentrate on your box position. Blue skies
