How many students do not continue to jump?
mazevedo replied to mazevedo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do you know the percentage of students who quit skydiving after AFF, ASL AFP ? -
I don´t know if it is true but something is going on... Edited to add: Sorry, it was posted before. WHAT: - Professional B.A.S.E. jumper Jeb Corliss, will test fly his wing-suit November 16th-17th, in a 2-day stint to prepare for his upcoming, first-ever world record landing attempt without a parachute. The test piloting will be done with a parachute to safely assess landing speeds. Test flying is critical, as no one has ever survived a landing attempt minus a parachute. Come watch Jeb push the envelope—exploring, showcasing the evolution of the sport of skydiving. WHEN: • Tuesday, November 16th, and Wednesday, November 17th 9:00am – 4:30pm • Test piloting and aerial performances, plus interviews with Jeb and Luigi! WHERE: Perris Valley Skydiving Center 2091 Goetz Rd. Perris, CA 92570 HOW: Outfitted in a high-tech nylon wing-suit designed with inflatable fabric wing surfaces Jeb’s "wings" will allow him to fly across the sky for several miles—freefalling three times as long as a normal skydiver. Jeb Corliss will be working closely with Go Fast!® -sponsored test pilot Luigi Cani who successfully landed the world’s smallest and fastest parachute last July. With Luigi at the controls, the bed sheet-sized ICARUS Canopies VX-39 parachute has the performance to fly with Jeb in free fall at speeds in excess of 100 mph! Jeb and Luigi’s team-up is necessary to gauge the speed at which the wing-suit could potentially be landed without a parachute.

Sorry to be the only guy posting here. But as I posted a trouble under my canopy, I fell that I have to post the great customer service, Aerodyne provides me. Please look out "Congratulations to Aerodyne customer service " posted in the "General skydiving discussion..." tread. Thanks Audrey and Jody again, Blue skies,

Congratulations to Aerodyne customer service

I bought a complete rig from Aerodyne (Icon, Pilot 150 and Smart 150) and the rig arrived last month. On the first jump, I noticed a small right turn under the canopy. I sent an e-mail to Aubrey and Jody and they asked me to do some tests. After 17 jumps and all the tests done, the turn was still there and they promptly asked me to return the canopy as soon as my new one arrives. Their feedback and quickly response were great! Well, I live in another country and they are completely trusting my words - we don't have any Aerodyne dealer around here. Thanks Aubrey and Jody! Pilots are begining to show up around brazilian DZs. And as one of the first to be flying one around here, I will truly recommend your product - great opening, nice fly and landing, great design and a very safe container. Blue skies -
Updating again (17 jumps under my Pilot, now) The lines were not shorter as we thought, it was only 0.5 inches shorter on the right side. My rigger made a little adjust on the soft links to compensate. It was 5 jumps this weekend, but the turn was still there. I am attaching some photos of it to show both sides of the canopy and the amount of input I am making to fly straight. I asked an experienced jumper to fly it and did not tell him witch side the canopy was turning - he noticed the same thing: Right turn Blue skies

Just to update: I did two jumps today. On the first one, I let the right leg strap a little bit unfastened. It helped, but not took away all the turn. On the second, I changed my container and jumped the canopy under a Wings. The turn was still there. While changing canopies, one local rigger came to help me and he noticed that the right D line from stabilizers was 2-3 inches shorter than the left one. I left the canopy with him to check all the lines. Do you think this is the problem? Well, I hope so. After 12 jumps and testing everything possible, line set will be my last chance before returning the canopy to Aerodyne.
-
I did 6 jumps this weekend (10 until now). The canopy is flying straight with brakes undone. The canopy is taking 11-15 seconds to turn 90º (depends on the wind) The canopy fly straight if I raise my right leg 90º (tryied to put my weight to the left and it worked) When flying, I just untightened the right leg strap a little and the canopy began to fly straight. I noticed that the amount of input I have to do to fly straight is not to big if I discount the the amount of line that is not tensioned. For example, if I pull both toggles a little, I have to pull the leftt one just 4-6 inches to fly straight. I did not jump the canopy in another rig. I will try it later. My lands are fine. Nothing I cannot handle.
-
Yes it is. I get in contact with Aerodyne and they prompted gave me some feedback. Their rigger, Jody, just told me to do exactly what you are saying. Jump the canopy 10-30 times taking note how long it turns 90, 180, 360 (with and without brakes). Jump the canopy in another container and let more experienced jumpers fly it. I will start do it tomorrow! Thanks for the input. I will post the progression.

No way I would be offended with that! "The corageous are the first to die" Thanks for your reply! I will do that.

I bought a new rig and this past weekend I jump it for the first time (BEER!!!). I will not post the manufacturer name here because I am not sure it is a mft problem. I used to jump a 170 and did few jump on a 150. This new one is a 150 loaded at 1,25. I am now with 127 jumps. It was 4 jumps (three on my own and asked a friend to jump it and see if something was different). Both of us noticed that, the canopy was turning right and we had to keep the left toggle pulled (about 13-14 inches) to keep the canopy flying straight ahead. It was not a windy day. The brake lines were not tensioned and they were with the same lenght. I tryied to keep the legs straps simetric all the time. The risers seems to have the same lenght, too. Next week, I will try to change he container to isolate the problem. Any sugestions in which test I have to make to be sure it is a mft problem? The rig was mounted by a FAA - Master Parachute Rigger blue skies,

They are not considered standard. Mine, just came with the screws and bag, too. I guess you have to ask for the other accessories and they will charge for that.
-
It is not true AggieDave. They are producing it. I guess you can find it in Aerostore in the USA. Blue skies

Congrats on your Rawa - great helmet. I have one IP5 and they had to put the camera on the right side - they made it perfect. Blues skies

the WPC AE 2004 change from Brasilia to Boituva (SP)
mazevedo replied to mazevedo's topic in Events & Places to Jump
from the brazilian forum: "Hi competitor(s), NAC, judge, The IPC has decided postively on the CBPq request to change the WPC AE 2004 location from Brasília to Boituva (near Sao Paulo). The dates of the event are the same, September 13 (arrival day) - 19 (departure day). Entry fee is the same at USD 275 for competitors and USD 150 for accompanying personell / alternate athlete. The decision of the IPC is primarily based on the interest of the competitors who have trained all year for a WPC and have invested time, money, and (non-refundable) airfares. The goal of the IPC still is to have a world class competition. IPC realises that some standards can or will not be met. However, IPC staff and CBPq on site will do everything to reach the stated goal. NOTE: all travel arrangements have to be checked. If you do not show at the Sao Paulo (or Rio) to Brasília section, your return flight will (most likely) be cancelled completely (being Brasília - Sao Paulo / Rio - home). CBPq and Paulo Zanella (skyzan@b...) are at this moment contacting VARIG airline to work on this issue. You are kindly requested to spread the word. Of course, we do not have all e-mail addresses. For furhter information, please look at www.wpc2004.com.br. A bulletin #3 will be posted soon. With regards, Ronald Overdijk Chair IPC AE committee" -
I have 80 jumps on my Dolphin. And I use to freefly it even knowing it is not a FF friendly gear. My main is a Sabre 170 and I never had even a twist. I keep the velcro and the BOC expandex well mantained. My gear is checked by a rigger 4 times a year. Now that I started headown, I bought a new equipment (Icon, Pilot 150, Smart 150) and it will arrive next month. So, I really recommend the Dolphin and if you want to upgrade it for a more FF friendly gear. Call Altico that they are really friendly - I would do that, but I was thinking about downsizing and Aerodyne prices were really attractive.

Thank you all! Three days from saturday and I am still thinking about the experience. It seems like my first jump. I Will try to improve my legs and arms position. edited to add: Thanks for the toes tip. I will try this, too.

I did my first headdown jump this weekend. It was ok, but I felt some difficult to slowdown. Any tips? I know that opening the legs and arms will slowdown but even doing this, my coach felt some difficult chasing me. I was surprised how can we lost altitude awareness because of the speed. I guess if I wasn´t with my coach I problably would have a low pull (never happened before). The point that really impressed me was the distance that we lose when stop the jump, going to belly and pull.

I did my 100th jump this weekend, follow what I did until now: - 4 Dropzones - 4 Planes - King Air, Islander, Sky Van, Caravan - 1 Ballon jump at 3 grand - 3 Off DZ landings (1 corn field and 2 swamps) - 1 land at 25 Kts between trees - 1 downwind landing - Several crosswind landings (some good landings and just 1 bad) - 1 leg muscle pulled - 18 BBF jumps - 5 FF one-on-one coach - Several LO´s coached FF jumps - 5 canopies (student, 210, 190, 170 and 150 (just one back-to-back jump and I went back to my 170)). I did almost all Bill Von's check-list exept landing with rear risers, but I am planning to do it. - Now jumping FF (training 2-way) - Sit and stand fly, cartwheel, 360, front and back looping with good level, heading and speed. Planing to go headdown soon (with coach) Next steps: Planing to buy a new FF Friendly rig

SpaceShipOne, first private manned rocket ship, briefly entered space today www.space.com How much would cost a ticket for this load? 330.000 feet A track jump from US to China

It was a sunny winter day with east wind (5-10 knots). We jumped at 10.000' and I did a fun FF jump and deployed at 3.000'. Normal navegation and when I was at 700' the wind came from southeast with 20-25 knots. I was backing up and had to pull the front risers to cut the wind. I landed 3 feet from the tree line (between two of them) that separate the land area from the street. The tail of my canopy got stucked in the trees. The wind was not constant (I don´t know the name in english) and there were a lot of turbulence and at 400' I had to choose between the trees (it was small ones) or side land in a short spot behind the tree lines (more turbulence). Turning and land with tail wind was almost impossible cause there were a wall there. Only three (including me) of the 7 jumpers landed in the land area. One of them landed at the end of the airport run (one plane took off and had to turn quickly to avoid running over the skydiver). What would you do? The trees, side land?

Problably they do empirical tests simulating a 12 years use of the equipment. For example: They take an average # of jumps that a jumpmaster use to do an year and simulate the temperature, pressure and landing conditions. They will observe when the unit start to fail and can set a lifetime to the equipment. And we have to know that this equipment is used all around the world, with different weather conditions. Edited to correct my bad english!
