Public services. I guess I missed that part of the Constitution where it says that healthcare, schools, social security, medicare, etc are the responsibility of the federal government to provide and, as such, the federal government has a right to tax us for them. Not only that, but the federal government is obligated to provide them to people who are not even citizens of this country (read "illegal aliens"). People should be financing their own healthcare and public schools are the responsibility of local and state governments - if it is an obligation of any form of government. Plus, look at the poor job that public schools are doing in educating the children of today...and it is certainly not for a lack of money. The war in Afghanistan hasn't been forgotten by anyone who knows were to go for the news. The MSM only covers what fits their agenda. Go read the various milblogs such as Blackfive.net, Michael Yon, Long War Journal, Mudville Gazette, Michael J. Totten, etc. Tons of info on Afghanistan by those who are actually outside the wire serving there...plus plenty of info on Iraq as well. People should "be given healthcare"????? Where does this right to "free" healthcare come from? Nothing in life is free...someone has to pay for it and I, for one, do not want to pay for someone else's! Should Europe and the rest of the world disarm the USA
piper17 replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
If I recall my history classes from high school and college, we ran the Brits out of the colonies back in the 18th century for just this idea...as well as a few others. "The British are coming" was in reference to the British army marching to Lexington and Concord to seize powder etc from the colonists. Are you looking to repeat history? Hell, Europe cannot even meet her treaty obligations re: supplying troops to fight in Afghanistan. How would you plan to carry out this silly scheme? Euope is a pathetic collection of wobbly old nannies. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling -
I call them "terrorists". If they wore uniforms and were members of a country's military, I would call them soldiers. How about you? "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling

Well, if these nutters just wanted to commit suicide, they could strap on their favorite C-4 vest, go off to a remote spot in the desert and blow themselves up...harming no one else. Since, however, they prefer to take as many innocent people along with them on their way to their 78 virgins, it would seem "homicide" would be more accurate. Have the Canadian patch but can't find a number. I do have Club Des Grandes Etoiles #285....for what it's worth. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling -

I'd guess 1944 - 1945 on an island somewhere in the South Pacific - based on aircraft types, clouds and terrain. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling -
Should you have to provide a license to exercise a right?
piper17 replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
The Bill of Rights doesn't GRANT the right to any of the rights - free speech, right to keep and bear arms, etc. It recognizes that citizens have those rights....that we were endowed by the creator with these rights! "apart from his lack of experience, Obama looks good. Please tell me what makes him "look good" We are to choose a president to lead this country. I want someone with experience...leadership, cognitive thinking, problem solving, business/economic sense, management experience, people skills. Can you point out where Obama has shown that he has ANY of these qualities?.....Or Hillary or John (the Breck Girl) Edwards. Politicians can let platitudes trip smoothly off their tongues....health care for everyone, jobs for all, etc, etc, etc. Words are just that - words. Actions, however, speak louder than words (you can quote me on that). What has Obama done in the past to indicate he can make anything really happen? On the other side, I'm not particularly fond of Romney - too many flip flops for me who prefers principles over "position-of-the-day" - and Huckabee seems to like taxes and releasing criminals back into society. There are some things I like about McCain but too many that I don't, including amnesty for illegal aliens. Thompson is more to my liking and may rise to the occasion but doesn't seem to have the ability to fire anyone up to vote for him. The US is/was ready for a "black" president. Anyone remember Colin Powell? He would have walked away with the national vote but had no interest in running. I doubt it is a matter of race but, rather, what they stand for and their experience. Obama has next to nothing in the way of practical experience in running anything! Colin Powell, on the other hand, had extensive military (leadership, management, etc) experience as well as foreign policy and "Washington" experience. Old jumpers who went to the Big House

I shoulda listened to my parents. When I took up skydiving, I ended up hanging around with too many people of the kind they warned me about. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling -
I was talking to Raye last week. She lives in CT and was talking about starting to skydive again.... "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling

I have a Romanian SKS. Fun to shoot and reasonably cheap for ammo. Can't say much for the trigger but this isn't the kind of rifle you buy for 1000 yd accuracy matches. There is a website dealing with "surplusrifles" that has a lot of info on SKSs you might want to check out. I can't access it at work due to "security" software that keeps me from going to firearms-related web sites. You are right. The OV-1 is the Mohawk by Grumman (the aircraft pictured) while the OV-10 is the Bronco by North American. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
