    The only problem with your theory Kallend, is that as you see cruel and unusual behavior from the authorities, I see them being originated in the actual criminals. If they are nuts, they have a chance to spend the rest of their lives in a nut palace, if not then let them pay for the crime they committed. What is your real motivation trying to imply that red states engage in cruel and unusual punishment? I find that blue states are more inclined in killing innocent babies (please read abortion).     Yet the point you make is rather moot, since crime and murder do occur in every country in the world. My family was robbed at gun point at none other than UK!. We felt powerless, and until you don't understand the powerless feeling this situation does involve, you won't understand it. Simply because you have not witnessed it, does not mean it won't happen. Just like in skydiving, if you have not gotten hurt does not mean you will be immune from an accident, regardless of severity, planing, training etc. The better you are prepared the better chances you have. Some people also have guns because they like to go to a range, some people like to carry because they feel better protected. No government should tell you how you should protect yourself, your family, your property if you ever need to.     Justin, some terrorists lovers in here do support, at least morally, these bunch of people, who think it is just great to bomb public places and kill civilians or unarmed personnel, either with car bombs, IED's or simply by cutting a civilian such as Margaret Hassan to pieces. (Never heard much in the press, nor the general outrage on that one) They think their cause is honorable, and want them protected by the Geneva convention, even though the leadership is clearly NON IRAQI (IE Al-Zarqawi), they possess no uniforms, and use civilians/holy sites to shield themselves. Most of these terrorist lovers, will even dare to say that all the Iraqi (read civilian population) casualties are all innocent, from Iraq and with nothing to do with the conflict. and more importantly, ALL INFLICTED BY THE US and the coalition.
