crw.boxofclue.com/skydive/rossi.html Check this out. Hopefully, I made it clicky. If not, someone will. __________________________________________

Breakaway is a skydiving malfunctions video. It's educational but still fairly entertaining. 'Cutaway' is a movie in the hollywood sense. If you are looking for Breakaway, go to www.para-gear.com, then to extras and accessories, then videos. It's $20.00. If you are looking for 'Cutaway'...why? __________________________________________

Why not try AFF? Do you have to pay for the whole course up front? If not , try a level or two and see if that changes anything. It seems to me you just need to learn to feel and trust the relative wind and I don't see that happening on 3 second delays. I was trained static line but for you it just seems to be beating a dead horse. One thing is for sure, this is going to make a great story years from now when you have hundreds or thousands of jumps! __________________________________________

Hasn't gone away yet. I hope it never does. But dread and fear have been replaced by excitement and anticipation. My hearts still pounding on jump run but in a totally positive way. I love the adrenaline rush. __________________________________________

I'll probably get in big shit from the vet's for saying this, but I think static line is a program who's time is done.... *** ---------------------------------------------------------- I'm not a vet and my wife also successfully went with AFF after having problems with static line, but what do you base this sweeping statement on. Your personal experience only? I say don't get wrapped up in right/wrong regarding training methods. They all have good/not so good aspects. IMO each student is different and should utilize the training method that works for them. *** __________________________________________

Thanks for the all the great info. Gonna have to get some wings, I guess. They actually sound kind of fun. The thing I hate about skydiving is I love every discipline so much that my learning curve is slow in all! __________________________________________

Deuce wrote in a previous thread. "You have to wear a camera suit to be really effective at either tandem or 4-way video. Serious question. Why? What does the camera suit give you that you cannot do without and what is the down side, if there is one? I have just started filming tandems. On one I was working so hard to stay big, it was hard to get close. Would the camera suit help here? I have no problem going fast but with a 145 lb tandem master and 110 lb passenger I was stretched to the limit wearing a freefly suit. Also, does anyone make just a camera suit top ? __________________________________________

Maybe consider a dropzone that offers static-line method. A lot of people will disagree but it is (IMO) a viable option to keep you involved in the sport without having to spend a lot of time and money in one short time period. __________________________________________

Not a web-site, but a good book for where you're at. The Skydivers Handbook by Dan Poynter and Mike Turoff. __________________________________________

I read your bio...just curious...Where does the 'Big Unit' go during terminal? And does it stay there or flap around causing extreme discomfort? I gotta know before I try this. __________________________________________

how much does it cost to jump once you're off student status?

Especially since you are an AFF student and it's full altitude or nothing for you. I had this happen and was out for about a month. Then I did a low hop and pop when I thought I was well and just worked my way back to full altitude __________________________________________

I made a reply in the Safety forum and it went on forever horizontally. I will preview this post to see if it does the same. (nope) What the heck did I do? __________________________________________

2. The problem with new sitflyers/headdowners is not (in my experience) that they cork but that they track all over the place. If this is the issue the only thing that will protect against collisions is greater separation from other groups - putting them before the 'regular' freeflyers will give them no more protection unless that extra timing is in place. ------------------- Speaking from personal experience, an inexperienced freeflier can cover an insane amount of horizontal distance accidently. I think it's great to tell us/them to sit-fly perpendicular to the line of flight, but I don't think that level of awareness is abundant in many newer freefliers. In my opinion extra long separation times are required. Maybe sometimes requiring a second pass. I suspect many DZO's are not terribly interested in that prospect. I enjoyed jumping at Elsinore. They seemed to take an occasional second pass. Is that common? __________________________________________

-------------------------------- I'm in the same boat. I think an RSL is a wise choice for me. I'd like to think that I'll perform quickly and decisively in an emergency...ain't been there yet. I also have an AAD. I can't afford one...but I have one. If you want one, you'll make it happen. __________________________________________

Thanks to you, Tom, for an excellent reply. I printed it out and it will become my new mantra. When I think back on it, all my 'worst' skydives were when I was trying to perform to someone else's standards. (real or imagined). And my best skydives were when I just 'chilled' and flew the way I can. I am reminded of what Doug F. at Elsinore told me: Imagine you are a 4x8 sheet of plywood freefalling. Push on a corner and the whole board moves because it is stiff and nonpliable. Then imagine you are a bedsheet or something equally pliable. Push on one side and nothing happens with the rest of it. Same with our bodies. Relaxed, a mistake just ripples through us. Stiff, and we're all over the sky. Me, anyway! __________________________________________

freefly question, need advise please...
ixlr82 replied to justhavingfun's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Perhaps just semantics, but I don't think skydiving is all about being safe...perhaps being safety conscious (reducing risk to a level we can accept). Bowling is all about being safe. Also in a hundred years I think they will laugh at how we put ourselves in these little boxes of 'belly flying' and 'headdown' or 'sit'. Watch Olav in 'Crosswind'. Belly, back, up, down, in, out...now that's freeflying! And as a sport I feel like we are still very much in the infancy stage. Anyway, I do agree about having fun. We are lucky to have found this amazing and beautiful sport. __________________________________________ -
Thanks. Normally, my login is automatic. I think we had a power outage and that screwed things up. Anyway, when I logged back in manually, all is back to normal. I am not computer savvy, just stumblin along. __________________________________________
