What’s the difference between alcoholics and drunks? Alcoholics go to meetings. I’m just a drunk!
-
Well when I say in my Area I mean 5-15 mintues away, maybe a little more. Richmond is 3 hours away.
-
Yea good point but I can barely find higher spring boards let alone a platform high dive. D
-
Cool thanks for the info. Yea I have been to all the gyms in my area and they are all for High school and younger. This last one that I haven’t been to yet has an adult program so more than likely I will be able to get some work in there. www.excalibur-gymnastics.com/ I actually did gymnastics too! I did it for about 3 years (summers) at a summer camp I went to. Some cute girls wanted a guy I met the year before asked me to take the class with them and I said ok and really enjoyed it. Nice eye candy too! Glide kips are a bitch! HA

I'm gonna go for "Smack My Bitch Up by The Prodigy"
-
Yea but nada for that though. Might have one at a gymnastics place but 2 of the places I visited and talk to the managers they said they didn’t have insurance for anyone over 18. There is one place left I can try and if not I’ll probably just do the 1 meter spring.
-
Yea I've beed working on finding dive training but I haven't had any luck. The highest diving boards I have found are 1 meter spring at the local rec centers. Been trying to get in touch with some of the local colleges but no one has emailed me back. A 3 meter at the least would be nice. D

Yup thanks I have already checked out Dwain’s info on Aerials in BASE. Very good resource but along with that I was hoping to get other opinions on the subject. Like with the “cat flip” Tree feels that front or back flips are actually less difficult. It’s nice to see what the majority thinks and then I can make a decision on what I will do.

Coo, Yea I wasn't able to look at the video so I guessed. But yea either container can open due to that type of thing but I would think with pins and a pin cover it would be easier to prevent than Velcro that could peal easily.
-
What jump number did you do your first aerial and what did you do? And what type of object? What would be the best aerial to start with? Gainer? Edited to add: And what type of object? I would think an S like NR or Twin falls would be the smartest place to make a first Aeriel. NOTE: Not planning to do one yet, just curious because it is something I do desire to do in the future.
-
Well I would think not more so just opening up because of nothing but if you bump your rig or rub up against something, the Velcro could more easily come apart than your pin coming out (pin cover helps protect the pin better). That’s what I would say. But I always climb with my rig in a stash bad so that helps too. Did you see the video for NC jumpers on Skydivingmovies.com. That one guy had his pack job open as he was getting to the top of the A. I am at work so I can reference back and watch it but I think it was Velcro and he caught the velcro caught on the back of the platform or something.

I love my pin rig! I just got one of the new Apex DP’s and it is a beauty. I am also a little OC so hell would probably freeze over before you caught me packing without a pull-up cord or packing tool. The DP also has a pocket on the left side near the 3-ring for pull up cords where I keep two. As for the pros and cons of pin vs. Velcro, I went with a pin rig for a few main reasons. You don’t have to worry about a pin rig opening up on a climb, “safer” emphasis on the “er” for aerials which I do plan to do in the future, and they seam to be easier to close when packing (when you don’t forget your pull cord. lol). Talking to one of the veteran BASE jumpers who visits my DZ on occasion but no long BASE I believe, told me a while back when I ask which type of container to buy, he told me, “If you ask someone like me who has been jumping Velcro forever and I am definitely gonna tell you to get Velcro. It works and why changes something that you know works. He said but both containers are safe and will do the trick. You just have to decide which you like and what works best for you.”

Hey Jason, Would it be possible (and/or any help) to show these types of pictures to the BDC (or whoever has the most pull, federal level also?…) to show that the NPS already have that many rangers in the landing area and that they are full of s**t in the facts that they say that have to bring in more rangers and that it will cost them that much more to do so. Maybe if we can get pics of not only 2004 but earlier years also it will show that they have been doing it all along and have never felt the need to impose extra bs costs on us BASE jumpers. D

Good Point! I was just about to say that!

"New Orleans is sinking three feet per century--eight times faster than the worldwide rate of only 0.4 feet per century. Currently, New Orleans, on average, is eight feet below sea level--11 feet in some places. " Why fight the inevitable? It was underwater when we found it, and it will eventually be back underwater. I don't see why anyone would live that far below sea level in a coastal city anyway. I say leave it under water. Katrina put it underwater, Rita put some back, if there is a third one, I'd say it’s an omen! http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2000/01/000121071306.htm

If you're in group 1 and go for land, you may have a shot at the D.F.H Award. http://www.bridgeday.info/dfh.php

Very Interesting!!!
-
Actually I heard it on CNN earlier today. They said if they get hit hard it would knock out a good deal of our oil production and could go up to $5. DAMNIT!!!!!!
-
Totally Agree! That would be nice but I agree also that it may not be realistic. That might have been possible back when the USPA was helping us out. Those who were causing the problems could have been punished then and legal jumping could have resumed at El Cap. Today it will definitely be tougher to get back. In my opinion I think we would have a better chance of getting NR opened before than El Cap. We already have a major event that has been occurring annually with great success. If we can get an extension as Jason was going for, and Federal Support we may be able to gradually have more jump time and show we as a community are responsible. Then if we prove ourselves there maybe we will have the possibility of opening up other doors. Just gonna take time….. I also read/heard somewhere that as some of the older rangers are retiring, new rangers who are not firm on their dislike of our sport may be more willing work with us. Any thoughts on this?
-
Thanks for the link Tom. I think this explains it fully. . And I do now remember someone telling me about this and the fact that they had legal jumps from El Cap but people took advantage of them and got them taken away. It’s a Shame! You don't know what your missing till its gone! But I guess its gonna be like when you f'up on the DZ. Everyone remembers it and it takeS a long time and a lot of positive actions to show you have changed and won't f'up any longer. Hopefully that time will be soon for BASE and we can start progressing the sport even more.
-
Ahhhh ok. Everyone I have come in contact with in BASE has always said don't break anything and leave it as you found it. I guess the attitude has changed from older times. Are people still causing those types of problems or are jumpers more considerate to the objects today in the hopes of gaining access to currently illegal objects?
