Chance to comment on BASE jumping in Zion ends June 29
dmcoco84 replied to ChrisMcNamara's topic in Archive
Well, asking them nicely sure hasn't worked so far Le Roy. Legal action might be necessary. The type of “sue happy” judicial abuse you speak of is similar to the jackass who sued for 54 million for a pair of lost pants. Suing a government agency over the discrimination in issuance of special use permits is something that may be necessary. Coco -

Has the class action lawsuit approach ever been attempted? Lets just fucking everyone sue the shit out of the NPS. May take a few years but if we can get it to a State or Federal Supreme Court some progress may be made. A discrimination lawsuit. Coco -
They're called stairs bro. And they are quite simple to use too. Look into that some time. But if you have some difficulty with them, check out this website: www.howstuffworks.com Coco

Hey Jimmy, Sorry for your loss bro. In regards to the list, I'd rather not comment on my personal feelings but I would like to make a suggestion for the future of the list which might make both sides happy. Why does the list need to be a public page? If one of the main arguments for keeping the list is that it is used as a learning tool for new jumpers, why can't the site be password protected. That way the world and media cannot see it, the list still exists for documentation purposes, is available for those who wish to read it periodically, and is there for new jumpers to hopefully learn from others accidents and hopefully stay alive. Just a thought.... Coco

Yes you did. He teaches here in Virginia Beach. Just a tad out of the way from where you are. Interesting. I guess that varies from state to state. I and P are really not that much different. An I can do everything a P can do however the P knows “why we are doing it.” After passing I there are only two semesters left for Paramedic. Pharmacology and Pathophysiology. The only other difference is that a Paramedic has more standing orders than an I when it comes to drugs (Also depends on your medical director too). Also as a side note since we are on this topic. I think it’s very important for everyone in BASE to get some form of training. A simple first responder course or preferably an EMT-Basic course would give you a very good knowledge base for what to do for the types of injuries you would see in BASE. In my opinion everyone should know: trauma assessment, bleeding control, splinting, basic CPR (Healthcare Provider CPR is better), spinal immobilization, traction splinting, backboarding and how to treat for shock. Chad’s article, below, is a good reference, however, these types of things are best learned in the classroom hands on. (which Chad also states in summary) http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=66 Coco

F***ers! I can't stand the media. Damn good job in the interview Douggs! "Why do you do fun things?" That’s exactly what I say! Coco P.S. John Agnos, maybe Douggs can help you with your interview skills.

Hey Nick, Congrats bro! That is a great accomplishment! Welcome to the medical field! Are you planning on continuing to move up in EMS? Intermediate? Paramedic? If so feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions. I am currently a NREMT-I and will soon be a NREMT-P after next semester. Also my dad teaches the paramedic program at the local college so if I don’t know the answer, he will. Good luck! Coco P.S. Yes the ED is much nicer. I’m an ED Tech II and highly prefer the ED to the field. I’ll also be going to medical school to be a PA in about 3 years. Was going to be a Firefighter but I want to diagnose.

“Sigh” Finally... thank you Mac. I thought I was the only person reading this posting and thinking wtf. There is no roller coaster effect from skydiving or BASE. On a roller coaster, the “roller coaster effect” isn’t felt as you’re increasing speed and moving downward before a loop. It is felt as you are hitting the loop and moving upward against the force of gravity (g-forces). Which then takes us to centripetal force which aids in completing the loop. If you feel any abnormal feelings in your stomach at the time of the loop, its simply because your organs are moving down in your abdominal cavity. Another example of moving organs is in Kinematics of Trauma. Car traveling at 100mph, car hits tree and stops, driver continues forward and impacts the steering wheel and stops, organs continue forward and slam into either the rib cage or abdominal cavity. In a roller coaster, it’s simply moving upward against the force of gravity that pushes down on your body. Your body pushes into the seat along with your poorly suspended internal organs that move downward in your abdominal cavity due to that changing force. Which in turn produces many different feelings within ones abdomen. In BASE, you are simply accelerating downward, with gravity, without an outside force changing that path of initial acceleration. Your internal organs move at the same rate of downward motion as your body. (Newton’s Law) Exactly! And if your stomach is “all in a knot” before that loop, or before a jump, it’s those natural drugs! Pick up any A & P and Pharmacology Textbook and read up. Its quite amazing how many drugs the body naturally produces and how they work to control every function in our body. Coco Edit: Spelling

Recently read up on it and I was curious to see what other think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumption_tax http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairTax Personally I like it. It would stop people from bitching about how much they have to pay in income taxes from their check each payday and you only pay taxes on what you buy. Good for poor and rich. Poor buy less so they pay less. Rich buy tons of shit so they pay more. Sounds good to me! There is a little more to it than that I know but in its most simple form it would appear to make sense. At least to me it does. Coco

I haven't done anything with my computer yet. I have a 4 pin to 6 pin cable for tansfer off my camera to my computer. I pluged the 6 pin into the back of the DVR, then pluged it into the docking station with my camera in it. When I do so the little icon for Fire wire D link or I link I forget pops up and says its conencted but I don't see a picture from what is being outputed on the tv screen. The port for fire wire on my comp is the exact same on the dvr, so both 6 pin. If I go buy a 6 pin to 6 pin and conenct my pc to the dvr via that cable connection, will it allow me to transfer files off the dvr? Coco

Anyone been in contact with Cookie Composites in the last few days? I emailed them a few days ago but haven't heard from them. C

No I don't want to transfer onto my camera. That was just to get a short clip. I still don't know how to get full files from my DVR to my PC. ] Will a 6pin to 6pin firewire work? Are the files encoded. Whats the deal? The thread kinda went off track. C
