PLEASE HELP!!!! - Sony PC Handycam Series
dmcoco84 replied to dmcoco84's topic in Photography and Video
Aight….I’m in a bit of a jam! I have a Sony PC105 that recently broke. External lens and focus piece broke off. (but otherwise the camera works fine, just can’t focus it and not sure if its on auto) I’ve got a warranty but the parts and repair are gonna cost 600+ so they won’t fix it. I’m heading to Switzerland Nov. 2nd for BASE and I can’t go without a camcorder!! I’ve been trying to find either a pc1000 or pc350 but the only retailers online I see that carry it are sold out. Are there any other Sony pc models out there that are new?? What about other companies that are like the pc series?? The upright rectangle style. The warranty company is gonna give me some $$ at depreciated value to buy a new one. I was thinking I could use that money and pay the difference to get my pc105 fixed. Even though the guy was trying to talk me out of it because he said it will just break again. Help!!! Any suggestions. I’ve got 7 business days! Coco -
I wish this was the approach of people.... Why would gulping down BASE jumps be a bad thing? Lets say a newbie goes to Twin Falls or another similar object and does 50 in 2 weeks vs. doing 50 in a year on the same object. I think that doing those jumps in a much shorter period of time would be better, giving the jumper solid currency and greater muscle memory for future jumps. Or I’ll use myself as an example. If I do 2 jumps in a night, 3 times a week working on my double gainers, I’m much more likely to perfect my rotation speed and deployment timing than if I were to only jump once a week. I don’t think doing too many jumps in a short period of time is the problem. The main problem is as Nick said in the first part of that sentence is that people are being over confident in their abilities. Coco

You need to do an EFT (electronic funds transer) If you use online banking You can go into "tranfers" in your otions and set up a third party transfer. I transfer funds from account to account in two different banks along with sending my father money and vica versa with two different bansk. They are free because they are not wire transfers. Wire transfers are processed differently and fees are charged. It doesn't makes sense but thats how it works. I used to be in banking before I entered the medical field. Coco

Just checking to see who is planning on packing at Bridge Day this year. Gonna need a packer for my dad. Coco

Nice pic! That sure was an awesome jump! Ha, you can see my face on the side. Coco

Very nice but for BASE and skydiving having the cam straight forward would be a little hard to video yourself. Since that is what we use them for most of the time. check out cookie composites. http://www.cookiecomposites.com/proddetail.php?prod=OVert It can give you some ideas. Coco

Drop me a PM if you’re on the board. Or does anyone know her? Coco

I just left. Weather was very nice. Monday the winds were calm all day! Its is getting pretty cold at night though. Have fun!! Coco

I do my log book after every night of jumping. Only write a good deal if I did something new or special though. Otherwise... 600 ft A Double reverse or whatever I did is about it. Coco

Well....280's not that bad. I'd gainer that down the road after a handfull more jumps around that height. Would practice the rotation speed in the gym and higher up too though prior to doing so. 180 HHFF. Thats pretty low but Faber does it all the time. My balls aren't that big yet. Coco

At the moment 230 is the lowest. I did a jump a few weeks ago with a 46 inch HHFF go and throw with the way I described PC setup and all was fine. I did the same jump, same tower two nights ago and experience some hesitation. Was much lower than I was the first time. Haven’t done anything lower than that yet. Landing area is nice and big, only jumpable on one side into a nice big field. Free stander with a small but workable platform on the top. Easy exit. S/L'able but not really necessary with the height. Apex DP flap closed both times. With primed pins, Middle. Not sure what material for closing loops. Apex’s standard closing loops. Pins tension was good. Not tight but not too loose. Right in the middle. How tall was the tower the guy did a gainer from? Coco

So I'm starting to do more low jumps now and I had two questions. First: Pin flap. Seen many jumpers on video and pics with it open vs. closed. How much force does it take to pop the flap and does it do that much to quicken your deployment? The only problem I have with doing this is most of my jumps are solo so putting on my rig with the flap open, I’m worried about moving my pins. Thoughts? Second: for HHFF's. Right now I am doing the mushroom technique. Extend arm, s fold bridle into hand; S fold pc mesh into hand and Zp stays floppy outside of your hand. Are there other methods that are better for low stuff? What technique for folding is used with the underhand pitch technique? I believe I saw someone say that you fold it like I described above but instead of the zp flapping in wind you fold it over like if it were going in the BOC and your hand goes over the zp instead. Then you underhand it. Thoughts? Thanks! Coco

Thats not too low. Looks just about right to me!...... Coco

That didn't really answer my question... How does the father/son relationship skew his judgment negatively? Those vs. don't really say how.... In my opinion I would feel that due to the close family relationship, BASE841 would be more so careful in the types of jumps and weather conditions he allows his son to do out of fear for his safety than in the situation Tom talks about with those who are romantically involved or a Male Mentor hoping to achieve a romantic relationship from mentoring a female. Unlike a Male mentor wanting to please the female he is attracted too, a father does not have to please his son. Parents say no to their children for most of the shit they want and want to do anyway. I don't think it would be any different when it comes to BASE. I would think a father would be more so likely to say no to jumping as a whole or tell a son that conditions are bad and he can't jump or is not ready and needs more canopy experience. The only issue I see here, In My Opinion, is not the father/son relationship, or the son's age but that the son does not have enough canopy experience to be BASE jumping. Yes, 7 is better than none, but 100 is better than 7, and 200 is better than 100. Jumping off a bridge is not hard. I could teach one of my none jumper buddies that in ten minutes. The main concern is the abilities of the jumper after the canopy is open. Dad can't do shit for his son at that point. And neither can a Tom A. type mentor. I definitely think doing so from TF is a smarter idea than an A. As least with a 180 the kid can't have an object strike. Any other object to do this off of would not be the wisest decision. In order to be confident under canopy and under pressure one must spend a great deal of time under canopy learning and feeling first hand. Being under canopy for a minute or two after each jump after 7 skydives does not give you the knowledge and muscle memory ability to be able to deal with types of things you will experience in the BASE environment (Quickness in heading control, being able to read landing pattern from different altitudes, accuracy, and so on). It is never a wise decision to enter BASE with a low amount of skydives but it can be done. Look at it from another view. Regardless of age, sex, maturity...A driver behind the wheel of a car faced with seconds to react to an accident. Who is going to react faster and more appropriate. A driver who has spent a few hours behind the wheel or someone with years of experience. Common sense can answer this question. BUT like the situation with Clair, some people can have a natural ability to react quickly and effectively in avoiding the accident regardless of how inexperience they are. Lets also ponder this? What about a son teaching his father to BASE??? Take the "young kid" element out and analyze the father/son teaching element now. Hmmmmmmm...... Coco Edit: Spelling

Would you care to elaborate? Just curious as to how you feel his judgement is affected. Are you saying affected similar to "Boyfriends teaching BASE" as Tom has talked about or something different? Coco

Thanks for the Pm’s everyone. I have received lots of good info and advice. Even got some stuff from cops. Really appreciate it! If I haven’t responded yet, I will. I’ve been super busy and got lots of pm’s but hope to finish replying soon. Thanks again! Coco
