  1. Well, I appreciate all of your efforts, quade (and all the others), and I have taken your advice to heart. After *further* research and talking to a few more folks about it - I was conscience-stricken - and I was able to get out of my agreement to purchase the IP5. (The seller is a very cool person!! and I thank him if he's reading) So, I will do a bit more research and spend a bit more time looking into which camera would suit my purposes better....and get back to you all on what I decide....no doubt with TONS of questions!!! Thanks again...and sorry for the snipe-ishness! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  2. Thanks to both of you.....that seems to make more sense to me. Really appreciate it!
  3. Okay - I have seen quite a few people swooping using this method of "flaring" since I started seeing really good swoopers - well.....swoop, but I'm a little confused by how you do it.... How do you go from a front riser approach....to hangin' on your back risers for a flare/surf?? Don't you need to stay on your front risers for the maximum effect of your swoop?? Then, don't you need your toggles to flare so you can slow down to a reasonable running speed?? Am I missing something in the middle?? Colour me confused....cause it seems like all this riser 'jockeying' is a recipe for losing concentration on the landing and coming in hard (possibly fatally!)!! (and no fair poking fun at the retarded question!!) [wait - what am I saying...of course it's fair!!
  4. It's an ip5 and it's a good price for being brand new. I'm not looking to make this second income yet - so there was no worries there. Chachi - you're right - and I admit that my thread was started late on a weekend night that followed a busy day. So, allow someone to admit when they've come across as a lazy researcher (that's what I do all week long for $$ - so sometimes it's just nice to be told what you want to know directly!!!) I hope I'm still welcome to visit this thread and bore you with my "soon to be experienced" questions of what and how!! Later, Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  5. quade, I appreciate your response, and recognize my novice-ness to your expertise in the field.... but from one person to another - you could phrase your replies a little more codially - so as to not come across as an a$$. (I've been reading a few of the others...and it just seems you've got an attitude about being a video flyer) I recognized that I hadn't done my research - and simply stating that by me not doing any - you weren't going to dignify my response with any feedback - would have been enough. The way it stands now, though, I'm just left with thoughts of you that, having not ever met you, I hope are un-substantiated. Anyway - I think I have got myself sorted on a used camera from another jumper and I will use that to get started. Once I get comfortable with flying a camera - I'll look to upgrade. Thanks for all the responses on this thread - yours too, quade!
  6. Ummm....I think one just did! Going to use it to get used to a camera...and get some vid experience....then might "upgrade". Everyone's gotta start somewhere! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  7. I don't mean to dredge up previous discussions...but I'm stuck for knowledge and I can't be bothered going back through all the threads to discover peoples opinions....for time's sake. I'm doing my research on which cameras to buy...and having gone and looked at some of the options available to me through the stores - I don't see the pc5's or pc10's available. I have been looking at the ip5's and a few people have them. However, they don't seem to be very BIG on options. I noted more options on the TRV33. What is the overall experience with any SONY camera and which would you buy if you did it all over again?? I'm really wanting to start filming so I can expand my opportunities in the sport....so any and ALL advice is helpful. Thanks!!! (afterthought...would you buy a used camera first??) 8. Not for nothing....since I don't fly camera, but am currently in the market.... I have seen one camera flyer take a REALLY small drill bit and and table drill and drill a hole in the connecting threads of the camera and wide angle lens....thus helping the interior lens equalize and avoid the need of wipes, or any other substances. my "unofficial" .02... 9. Yeah....just don't try jumping them without at least short sleeves on! They jab your pits like nobody's business!! Doesn't "hurt" but isn't comfortable! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  10. don 't be hoggin' all the Birdie love..... We want to go x-country too!! Jari or Sky...post the info if anyone is allowed to participate...or do you have to have a certain number of flights?? Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  11. four words come to mind when i read this..... I feel your pain!! I too believe that when you stop looking - it will happen, but you really have to STOP looking and accept yourself for who you are.....then someone else will too! Good luck - you're not alone on that one! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  12. Yeah - that was pretty funny!! Good thing all the birdmen were suited up!!! We still got to 12.....but I haven't ever been on a bird that "ain't got no gas in it"!! Missed the CASA that threw it's prop in Monroe by one load....so I was thankful for that!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  13. Man.....check out the Boobies on that one!! j/k....that's awesome! Congrats and I know skydivers make the best parents....how else would you explain the ability to let go of something larger than yourself - and trust that it will all be okay in the end!!! (in other words...raise her right...keep her well clear of other jumpers!!!!) Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

    Favorite DZ?

Ooohh....ooohhhh....can I play??? Favs so far...... *Tandem Skydive Wanaka(NZ) - best views (by far) I have ever seen on the ride to altitude....field packing on a griddle sucked, but the boogie always rocks there! *Otago Skydiving Club(NZ) - first dz, good people, I call it home no matter what *Skydive Atlanta - HUGE hangar, groovy folks, the Disco King (need I say more) *Raeford - why?....because they are not suckin'!!! The folks rock, the owners rock, the facilities rock(save for the concrete packing floor, but who cares when you're having so much fun), and most importantly - the after-jumping ROCKS!!! Worth every minute of the 5 hours to get there!! Honorable Mentions: Skydive Monterey Bay - lived in the area all my life, but the $20 scenic flight and a skydive package is ssswwweeeeeettt!!! *Skydive Dallas - large dz in BUMF*^K TX, but great folks - cool party scene, choice facilities, and home of my buddy - Freaksis!! Worst so far: *Atlanta Skydiving Center/Alabama Skydiving Center/Adventure Skydiving Center/Skydive Georgia......I can't remember the rest, but I'm sure there are more!!! - bad vibe, poor treatment, tight landing area with bad outs, generally all around bad feeling about this dz, but not here to air dirty laundry. Honorable Mentions (not so bad, but not great): *Great Lakes Skydive Center (NZ) - cliquey vibe to the folks jumping, felt more like a tandem client than an up-jumper, but NOTHING beats the view from the plane, or under canopy! Looking forward to checking out Chester, SC and some FL dz's soon - so who knows. Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  15. Uh.......YEAH - I'll second that!!! But, she had this really beautiful friend with her......Um....started with a "D"...she got my vote!!(and many licks...I mean looks!) Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

  17. I couldn't have said it any better myself.... ....so I didn't!!! Speedy recovery to Jari and Raefordite.....I hope they're not out of the action too long!! Thanks for the great time chillin' together Nugget!! And I wouldn't mind some of those nuggets to find themselves in the package of videos your sending me!!! Can't wait to see if those stills of our flock turned out.....and see those videos! PM me for details.... See you soon in Chester! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  18. HulLLLLOOO Fellow Flockers!!! Man - I am so a buzz today from all the flying I did this weekend. Many, MANY shouts of THANKS to LouDiamond, SkyOne, & of course, Jari for showing me the LIGHT!! Did many wonderful jumps and can't wait to get back in a suit again. Planning on going up to Chester, SC sometime soon to do some serious flockin' with blair700. Should be good times. Waiting on my rig and a new BM suit will not be far behind!! That 9 way flock was sweet! Hell - ALL of them were sweet!! See you all very soon - in deed!! (baakaawwww.....baakaawwww!!!) Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  19. You loved it Amish - Don't lie!!! Well, I'm made it back safely...in fact - in true skydiving style - I still had plenty of daylight left when I drove past SDMonroe - so I pulled in and caught the sunset load!!! This weekend was absolutely SPECTACULAR!!! All the folks in my office now certify that I'm crazy - 'cause all I can now talk about is this thing called "Flockin'". WOW!!!!! Warning....BirdMan jumps are skydive CRACK and should only be attempted if you're fully prepared to lie, cheat, or steal your way into jumping a suit from then on!!! Did a 9-way flock with Jari and as he passed underneath me - I smacked his wing!!NOICE!! I know it's not official, but I'm claiming that as my first dock!! (what would you know Kevin??!!) Hung out with SunnyDee and is she ever a girl to know!!!(and she's a hottie too, but I wasn't looking) Fozchek has a mouth and wit like a razor blade!!! If her green eyes don't kill you - her smile will!!
  20. All I can say is......Selanne's a pussy and Kariya deserves more!!! Selanne had a sweet arrangement in San Jose, but due to absolute shite management letting 3 of their better players get in the position to be traded or signed elsewhere - San Jose really dropped the puck on this one! Kariya was the most of the reason that the Ducks got as far as they did (although taking note that he didn't do much in the finals once there). Ducks messed up by letting him go, but more so they could afford their new hot shit goalie, Jiggy! It will come as absolutely no surprise this year when, NEITHER Carolina OR Anaheim make it into the post-season. My end-of-the-season-pre-season-post-season pick for the finals....one of the legacy teams (Edmonton, Montreal, or Detroit) and a surprise special apprearence by Ottawa (LONG OVERDUE!!) anyway - my .02 on the matter. Here's hoping someone in the Arena wakes up and realises they're letting all the good ones go!!!!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  21. I second that nomination!! Portuguese is an awesome, beautiful language. Studied it for 3 wonderful years, but that was over 10 years ago and aside from the odd thought in portuguese...I don't know any of it anymore. kansasskydiver...onde esta Brasil habites (if I remembered my conjugations right!)? Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  22. ...in Texas"!! I keep hearing that song that goes...."XX many miles until we get to the Chicken Ranch......" Only, for me it's...."27 hours until I leave for Raeford....where the s are gonna party like CRRRAAAAZZZYYY!!!!" I doubt if I concentrate on anything at work today! I can't wait!
  23. Dang - I must be special then...or there was a slow day in the processing dept of GoWear....I ordered it on Tuesday evening...and got it on Friday! Hooray to GoWear...come 4th of July - I'll be sportin'!
  24. Hey - how long did yours take to arrive?? I ordered mine this week, but hope it arrives before 4th weekend. What is the delivery time - if anyone knows....? Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  25. Well, when you put it that way!!!! Very well said and some good 'food' for thought! I guess I am just too blatant about everything and forget sometimes the implications of one's actions. [pyke's inside voice]Must learn to be hush-hush about certain things!!![/pyke's inside voice] Thanks for the contributions...! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr.
