I aked myself the same question last summer and chose Rantoul. I have to say, I was NOT disappointed. Hoping to make it out again this summer in 2004. I have heard great things about LP, too. Have been there done that except I worked at the DZ full time 5 days a week, on my day off washed airplanes, the bathrooms, campers, whatever I could to earn tickets and then Day #7 was spent at the DZ burning those precious tickets. But I was just thinking about that: "You know you're a skydiver when ..." it is cloudy and you're driving down the freeway and you see a "hole" and think, we could jump through that. I wanted my daughter to have a name which could be either. I liked Bailey, Taylor and a few others but her Papa and I decided to name her Dakota. Her Papa was a pilot and me a jumper so we named her after the DC-3 Dakota. Yup, I live here ... not for long though ... SF is a great city. Hit Pier 39 and take the Blue/Gold Fleet to all the islands. You can hit Alcatraz and there are three other ones too (I think Angel Island, Tiburon can't remember the other one). You can rent bikes and cruise the GG bridge although it is a little chilly this time of year so dress warm. Napa is nice, I just went for my first time in November. The balloon rides look pretty cool in Calistoga and there's also a Wine train if you are into that sort of thing. We did the wine train for lunch and it was a good way to kill an afternoon. Alcatraz was pretty interesting. There is lots to do in the city but if you're visiting and have time, there are beautiful places a little further south like Monterey, Santa Cruz, Big Sur ... Lots to do there. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is very cool, you can kayak with the sea otters in the Bay, whale watch, hang out in Cannery Row. Either place also has a pretty decent nightlife. Yeah, I do remember those windows being quite tiny. I'm not sure how Bridge Day came to be or how IT got started or when ... It sounds like it would be possible physically to do safely but I'm not to sure of what would be required to overcome the legalities. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." It is a shame there couldn't be an annual "Arch Day" kind of like Bridge Day but once a year they open up the observation windows and let BASE jumpers go at it. 630 feet tall by 630 feet wide and a fun easy ride to the top ... they would probably have to make some type of modification on it for jumping off of with a step or some way to get onto it safely ... It's been a while since I've been there and I don't remember how deep or flat to is to walk on at the top. I just checked and it costs $8.00 per tram ride to the top. They are closed on New Years Day and Christmas ... Offer em like $32 a tram ride ticket on New Years Day and promise to keep the tram packed from dawn till dusk. Think they'd go for it? I'm not sure about the landing area or what laws you'd be breaking I remember there being a park with lots of grass and trees nearby ... Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Superbowl XXX, 1996, when the Cowboys tanked the Steelers. What a beautiful day that was ... I had mustered up 2 weeks of work pay to bet on the Cowboys ... So a friend of mine owns this weight vest. It is very comfortable, has like 3 snaps in front and has weights that are in pouches which can be velcroed onto outside pockets on the front of the vest. Square One used to sell them but last time I was there they only had extra small and extra large. I need to find a Small or a Medium. Anyone know who sells these types of weight vests? Does anyone know the best place to buy these? I looked on Paragear's website and did a search but nothing came up. Went to SkyKat but shipping seemed a bit pricey. The best present was getting to watch my 3 year old daughter open all of her presents and be so excited (priceless). Christmas day at my house was composed of three adults putting together a train and all sorts of toys for one very happy three year old. I got a brand new tool box/tools, roadside assistance and car travel pack for my road trips throughout the year, some really cool power tools (cause power tools rule!), a couple DVDs, new soaps and lotions from the family and a pretty necklace, my first positive pressure handmade rigging tool and some cute panties from my skyhottie and I also got to take a very fun little trip with my skyhottie
