With all do respect, didn't John Kerry earn a purple heart for being wounded in Vietnam? What was your "buddy" Bush's service record like during Vietnam? I heard it wasn't too pretty even after Daddy who was head of the CIA pulled lots of strings for him ... Like I said earlier, I am not a Democrat, but I think I know who I will be voting for in 2004. First of all JohnRich, I did not say I would not support my country in a time of "NEED". Second of all, I am 30 years old, have a three year old daughter and am her last surviving parent. I couldn't join the military if I wanted to and I doubt very seriously I WOULD get drafted but if I "HAD" to defend my country's "national security interests", I would. I plan on going into some type of profession where that is the case. However, you missed the point of my post and bear in mind that this draft does not pertain to me. My purpose for making this post was to get people to THINK and especially those who are younger to be AWARE of what is going on around them. Next, I questioned what the WAR is really about. If the WAR is on TERRORISM which was enacted after we were attacked on 9/11, why are we over in IRAQ? Funny, I thought it was AlQuieda and Osama Bin Laden who planned and carried out 9/11. I also recall that Bin Laden wanted to assassinate Hussein because due to his secular regime. I think it is important for people to know where we are headed. If we are declaring ourselves in a ""permanent" state of war on terrorism, permanent seems to be a VERY LONG time. I think there are things we needed to accomplish in Iraq but I also think we need to think about where this is taking us. Where are we going with this and what impact will it have on our country, the human death toll, the economy and international relations? There is a lot else at stake with how we act and other countries are seeing us. We are not the only ones out there in the world who "matter". Just so you know, I am very patriotic about our country but I do question authority and I am skeptical about politicians in general. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

My Advice: Avoid attorneys at all costs except to have them look over and document your agreement. I think the cheapest way to do what you are trying to accomplish (this is what you can do if you are getting a divorce, I'm not sure about if you're not married) but to get a divorce all you need to do is sit down with your divorcee and write up an agreement. If you have kids, it gets more complicated. You need to include, who pays who child support and that is generally based on income guidelines provided by the state and can be found online for your state and "Child Support Guidelines" You need to read it carefully because sometimes people don't understand exactly "what" is considered income for purposes of paying child support. Also you need to include a visitation schedule for holidays and vacations, during school and who will have what type of custody. There is physical and legal and the definitions can also be found online. If there is any joint property that will need to be administered, bank accounts, retirement, KEOH, all that, any valuables, whatever, you get the idea. If you are not married, I am not sure which of these apply, the basis for your motion may just be over child custody, visitation and support. I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY but my mom is and I can try asking her. When you have included everything in your agreement, I would consider jointly choosing an attorney who specializes in family law to type up a legal document for the court. For a divorce it is called an Agreement Incident to Divorce. After the documents are prepared you should be able to go to a notary and initial each page and then have it notarized. That becomes the official document for the courts. The document is filed and signed by the judge if it is approved. I think after that it gets submitted to become a decree. Sorry to hear that you are going through that. It's never fun. Good luck. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

I'm not sure if anyone has posted on this yet ... or if I am allowed to make a post like this, someone please let me know if I'm not. (Last I knew though, was we live in a country where we have freedom of speech) I don't usually come to this sight to read about politics so I generally tend to stay away from political/war threads. But I thought this was important enough to post. Here it goes: (this is what I gathered anyway) According to the Information Clearing House in Vancouver Canada, the US Congress is in the process of having the draft re-enacted. This draft would be for ALL people, MALE AND FEMALE between the ages of 18 and 26. I'm not sure if this is old news to any of you but because it is not being published in the media for obvious reasons, (eventhough it is public record) I thought it would be good to post here. Anyhow, the issue of the upcoming draft is set to be heard in 2004 JUST FOLLOWING THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION and could go into effect in 2005. Everyone please check this out. The Bills before the House are S89 and HR163 and they ARE CURRENTLY PENDING legislation. According to some resources I am going to list at the end of this thread, the US has already made plans with Canada to restrict their borders and be on the lookout for "draft dodgers". If you are in college and are drafted, you will be able to finish your current academic semester and then would be considered ACTIVE DUTY after that. I am not a Republican or a Democrat so I don't propose or prophesize about politics. If anything I am just a liberal, but seeing where this administration and Congress are leading us we might as well be aware of it and choose wisely this election unless you are ready to go off to war or Mommy or Daddy are in the upper political crust. This draft is being propelled by Donald Rumsfeld's statement that we are in "a PERMANENT state of war against terrorism." The only way I think you would be able to dodge the draft would be to wind up in the slammer. We need to ask ourselves, do we want the United States to be in a permanent state of war? What exactly are we going to war for? Is it REALLY because of terrorism? Nazi Germany was in a permanent state of war when Hitler was in power ... Did you know that the US has already spent 81 BILLION DOLLARS to fight the current war in Iraq AND we need an estimated 150 BILLION MORE??? And, have you noticed that the media has not mentioned lately about the current death toll of US soldiers? Nope, but how many of us know about Janet Jackson's breasts at the Superbowl? Some sources of this draft issue can be found on: Google Search: S89 http://www.vancouver.indymedia.org/news/2004/01/105146.php www.Portside.com http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article5146.htm Happy Reading. ...so where did your avatar come from??
NoShitThereIWas replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Hey thanks ACMESkydiver... I enjoyed reading your description of your screenname and it was really interesting to learn about people through their screennames. DZ.com has such an amazing population of people. My current avatar is a picture of me taken last summer at my Dad's house in Texas. One of his best friends who has known me since I was a twinkle in Dad's eye decided to bring over his 1951 Harley Davidson classic. I of course couldn't wait to ride on the back of it cause I haven't learned to ride on my own yet but what a great bike! It is kind of funny too because when I met Genoyamamoto for the first time, he cracked me up. He was like, I figured you were going to be some older biker chick. I had no idea you were so young (I'm 30, not that young) but I thought it was kind of funny Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Sorry Sketchy to hijack your thread ... but Vinny, when do you head East/North??? You going to Canada I read? Will you be driving through this way to get to Florida? Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

QuoteQuote The line twists were my fault though, somewhere in between the packjob and my body position. Huh? I love my Sabre2... Quote Aaaaaaw Iwan, that is so sentimental!!! I know how you feel because I have felt that way about all my gear and if I don't, I get rid of it. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

How did you come up with the cashola?
NoShitThereIWas replied to Spatula's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Where did I get the extra cash to jump out of airplanes and buy gear??? Lets just say I had a strong desire and commitment to find what it was that I enjoyed doing and after my first jump I knew skydiving was something that I wanted to continue, learn and try to master at least some aspect of. To me the work that I put in was well worth the reward. I started working in the industry after learning to pack which was right after AFF in 96/97. I started packing every weekend and learned quite a bit being at the Drop Zone for a jumper with 7 jumps ... and basically a non jumper for nearly two years while packing. I packed anything and everything I could. After 2.5 years of packing tandem 421s I was like time to move on to something else. I worked manifest full time and was the office person. It was cool at times but I got sick of being inside all day long, last person to leave while everyone else was on the playground. They TOLD me I was a good manifestor but ... I think I must have become a nightmare after being bitten by the bug. There was no hope for me to stay behind the counter for long. Then working at STUNTS ... Yep yep yep. Lots to do with skydiving and it is something I have never regretted. For me one sure way to get into the sport was to be around it often, learn as much as I could from others and work hard. It took me about 2.5 years to save up for all of my gear and I bought a lot of it a little at a time. Luck was on my side when our DZO bought into STUNTS and I was able to get a great deal on an Eclipse container. So it was a bit of time, saving and commitment to make it happen. Then for fun jump tickets I needed more money than my full time job so on my other day off (one day off for jumping) I washed airplanes, the DZOs camper, the DZ bathrooms () ... and I never turned down a jump from a girlfriend or a cool guy All of that just to jump out of airplanes ... Some people would probably call me weird ...The sport is still expensive but still well worth it. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Sketchy ... Nice job in saving your life and congrats on your "FIRST" cutaway!!! Gotta love those Spinettos. My lesson learned from a Spinetto incident is to never lose track of altitude. I was so insistent that I was going to clear the twists that I got wrapped up in that and lost track of how much altitude I was losing and you CAN lose altitude FAST from Spinettos. So anyway, glad to hear you are okay my friend Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Best Screenname and where did it come from???
NoShitThereIWas replied to NoShitThereIWas's topic in The Bonfire
These are all GOOD stories. Lets all just remember to play nicely out there like good little skydivers !!! People used to PM me and ask where I got my screenname ... Well, I sort of wanted to pick something somewhat original and when I used to look in the Paragear catalog they had this one T-Shirt of the guy going tandem, body half out the door of the airplane with a terrified look on his face. The T-Shirt read: No shit there I was, thought I was going to die ... That shirt always gave me a chuckle and reminded me of my first jump. (Wow, that was a while ago). Very interesting stories from the rest of you ... thanks for sharing and keep em coming. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Best Screenname and where did it come from???
NoShitThereIWas replied to NoShitThereIWas's topic in The Bonfire
So I frequently check out the Who's Online when I log on and laugh once in a while when I come across some of the screennames on this site. There are quite a few characters in the Who's Who on DZ.com ... I was wondering where some of you got your screennames and if you were to vote who do you think has the best/most creative one? There are quite a few interesting ones on here and some confusion once in a while too. Lots of "sky" people: We've got SkyBytch, SkyMaster, SkyHi, SkyGod7777, SkybeerGodd, etc. We have DiverDriver, DriverDiver and DiverDiver. We've got lots of monkeys: SkyMonkeys and Sick ones too ... There are the infamous RoysPlayThing and Chop Chop, VanillaSkyGirl, and one of my all time favorites for creativity: Crapflinger 2000. So what's the rundown on YOUR screenname? Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say." -
Ummm Plaything ... is this the same yogurt that Chop Chop was referring to in another thread ??? Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Wow, Chop Chop, it's nice to see you and Lany back in the Forums again ... haven't seen you in a while. Anyway, couldn't help but NOT miss this post and after reading all of the responses I am laughing and very entertained. To read the views of Kawi and Peaceful Jeffrey and VanillaSkyGirl ... Muy entertaining. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

My first kiss pass was on my first solo refresher dive after a L-4 refresher with my AFF-I. It was pretty cool because I had no idea it was coming and our friend Scotty got it on video. I was just out there having fun and geeking the camera when he swooped in for the kiss pass Then they slow mowed the video to pause the look on my face and it was all
