there has been many civilisations over time. human life and 'progress' seem to be increasing at an alarming rate these days. i can remember when there was no such thing as a personal computer and remote controls. now we are 'dependant' on such things in some way or another. technology and consumtion are increasing at such an alarming rate and there seems to be no regard for ecology when it comes to progress. there seems to be no limit to what we can make or do with the earths recources, but the portrayed images of the future that i have seen all seem to include darkness, corruption and war. this seems to be what we envision the future will bring. there has even been absurd talk of living on another planet when this ones fucked. i'm just wondering how much longer everybody thinks our 'modern'/western lifestlye can go on before something, be it natural(climate change) or man made(nuclear war etc.) changes the way we live entirely? to skydive at all. the need for new zealanders to become freefall photographers and tandem masters for our ever increasing commercial skydiving industry, gave me the opportunity to skydive at all. i was on the bones of my ass and the skydive diploma course came up and there was an opportunity to student loan my first 200 jumps and attain a commercial skydiving career. i did exactly that and have done 1800 tandem videos and now have a tandem rating and an aff rating. my fun jumping has only began really. and i love it so. now i am a comercial skydiver i can afford to do it. without camera i wouldn't have been able to do it. footage is the best. the jump becomes only a distant memory without it. not that i am a coach or super experienced. i have noticed many talking about 'sit flying' and sitting in a chair to correct a position etc. the best thing i have ever been told is that sitting is 'incorrect' so sitting in a chair won't really help. 'head up' flying is the more correct term and to correct poor position it is best to stand with your back against a wall with your heels against the wall at a neutral width. sitting in a chair only creates bad habits (such as having your arms back to counter the added drag of having your thighs exposed to the relative wind)that will have to be weened out later. feet should be below your bum and shoulders. sit flying is what they used to do before head up flying was perfected just my two cents "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

i'll have to agree with rhino that it is dangerous to swoop underloaded canopies. the recovery arc is far too small and leaves fuck all room for error. i was told this when i wasted myself on a 1.0 w/l i was told to downsize. i downsized to a w/l of 1.3 and the recovery arc was still too small. i did 800 jumps on that canopy though. i now have a w/l of 1.55 and that is much better and much more forgiving. i am now going to go 1.8 and crossbraced i attended a canopy control seminar that j.c. conclosure held and he said the same thing. underloaded swooping is too dangerous if you want to swoop get a good wingloading 1.4+ so just because the oldies got away with learning to swoop on low wing loadings doesn't mean it is safe. also low w/l are more suseptible to collapse and turbulence etc. 300 jumps shold be enough to go to 1.4-1.5 w/l if you are current enough, but i think 1.6 is a little too drastic "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

i have doneover 10 bungee jumps and more bridge swings. it is a rush at first and definately more scry then skydiving(at first) but aftera while it is not so scary and boring/limited. the only reason i have done so many is beacaus i was a body double for a movie(fearless) and was getting paid for it. i wouldn't waste my money on it find a mate that is a good climber and set up a bridge swing. much more fun eh.
