I knew when I bought it that the specs said no input recording. I went thru the manual again and the specs, there is no mention of the cappability to record an incoming video stream any place. I hooked up the camera to the docking station and laptop and tried to copy previously downloaded videos from the camera back onto the memory stick, the files were copied, but when you open the Picture Motion Browser, the camera has no idea that the files you copied from the computer to the memory stick are there. you can manually copy the files off the memory stick. bottom line, this camera is not going to function very well for collecting video at the end of day from others, you wont be able to hook a cable up to their camera and record on the CX7, if you want to download the files from a computer you might as well eject the memory stick and insert it in a card reader and copy the files to a new folder on the memory stick, that way you don't have to haul around the docking station. What I would like is a cable that would connect from the 10 pin d connector on the CX7 to the 10 pin d connector on my HC85, this would allow me to get video from others via firewire and via the d connector from someone with another CX7 when there is no computer available.

thanks Jeff, Justin and Ed for the organizing. Thanks Elsinore for working hard to accommodate us at manifest with planes whenever we wanted one and jump runs that made it easy to fly as a flock. thanks everyone for the jumps.

Spot, I went ahead and bought a CX7, so I am really interested in finding out about the controller and the roll cage. please keep us posted on availability and how they work. thanks

I just tried it with mine. with the canon remote I can slide the L bracket all the way onto the clamp (at least to where it is centered) the remote cable is squeezed, but not so much that I would worry about it shorting the wires, you can still get the cable to slide with a gentle pull. With the conceptus tongue switch, the cable is tight, you have to open the clamp all the way and place the plate into the clamp from the top, you can't slide it into place, it leaves marks in the outside of the cable where it is squeezed, the marks disappear after just a couple of minutes after removing from the clamp, this would worry about causing a short in the wires inside the cable eventually. a couple of strokes with a rat tail file or seconds with a dremel and grind stone attachment would remove more than enogh material from either the L bracket or clamp to let the cable fit without worrying about shorting the wires. Yes this would hurt the resale value of whichever side you decided to modify, but I doubt it would hurt the integrity of either. The other alternative is to make a short male to female cable and plug the male into the camera route the female between the camera and L bracket at the back top of the L bracket secure the female end of the adpter cable to the L bracket, then plug the remote switch into the female end of the adapter cable. the clamp I am using, is the new style with the cutouts in the base that allow positioning screws to locate correctly for some of their accessories, if you have bought a lever clamp from them in the last two or three years it will be this style.

I have the XTI with a RRS L bracket and lever clamp, and the way I handle this is to not slide the L-bracket all the way in. The L bracket is offset from the center of the clamp less than a 1/4", and you are losing about 1/8" of effective clamp length. route the cable so it exits at the top of the camera from the L bracket. I can attacha photo of it set up this way on a tripod later this evening, if you want.

Happy birthday! -
Spot, the announcement for the new Sony cameras mention that they have a hybrid recording mode that will allow them to record to the memory stick. do you know if this would allow us to use just the memory stick in these cameras for skydiving? or is the CX7 still the only choice? Thanks

Dropzone.com 2007 Holiday boogie- Wingsuits
pattersd replied to LouDiamond's topic in Wing Suit Flying
three out of four are of the same person? kind of hard to get a bad shot of that person I guess. great pictures, and it was fun flying with you two, and seeing your antics. -
Thanks Scott and James for the wingsuit organizing, and everyone else for participating to make the flocks successful and safe. At least the balloon I was chasing was at an altitude we could have flown by, if we had been there three minutes earlier, not like some beacon on a short tower. And you turned down the evil streamer on jump 666, I mean after brake fires, slider wraps, d-bag wraps and sight entanglements what else could the streamer have found to mess with on that jump?

I don't have mine with me here but I do have a CAD model I created and the thickness there is .125". I believe the model is pretty accurate, especially for dimensions that are easily measured. I'll check this evening.

That should sound like good news to you, it means there is one less TARGET hunter out there. And I promise not to entice anyone into 'touching the pink', because we all know that is a violation of the rule. Looking forward to getting back and jumping. -

All right my work plans have changed and I will be getting back to Seattle on the 11th, so I will be at WWWsomenumber. I'm planning to be there early in the afternoon on Friday, someone please make sure I am awake before I leave the plane. Looking forward to it. -
I'm 5'10 245Lbs out the door and was getting mid to low sixties with a Prodigy last summer, probably put about thirty jumps on it. Maxed out in the Prodigy was very similar to relaxed in my S3, the forward speed of the prodigy was not as much as the S3 though. I would think that someone with a more advantageous wing suit build would be able to improve on my numbers.

I'm interested. I'll be getting there late sunday, so starting Monday I'm in.

That is about two weeks too early, dammit. I won't be back home until the end of October. I hope every one else has a great time. Scott, quit complaining about the spot, we all made it. -

I have used RRS clamps and plates for almost ten years on the ground with no problems, they are solid. I only fly video for my personal entainment, I am not doing vids/photos for money. I have used Really Right Stuff clamps and plates while skydiving to mount my still camera for the last three years, at the end of last year I rearranged the setup on my FTP to use the RRS clamp and plate for the video camera. With some help I modified the Bonehead dbox to add some height, so all it provides now is protection from bumps. My set up tries to minimize the snag hazards in all the configurations and allow me to add and remove components with a minimum of hassle, and without leaving snag hazards behind. When I put the video camera or still camera back on it is pointed to the same spot every time, a quick check to make sure the sight hasn't been knocked out and I am ready to go. Here are three pictures showing the video clamp and still setup with and without the still camera. The dbox is removed in one to show how I modified the clamp to avoid a knob or lever sticking outside the dbox. I too wish RRS had a plate/clamp to mount my flash, I am trying to get a friend to machine a plate for me. Then I can mount a clamp and attach it to the top of the rail the camera is on. editted to add the photos.

Blue skies Johnny. I'm sure you are still having fun. -
Its easy to tell where 2 grand is, there are lots of swooping targets flying around at that altitude.

Get well quick. Just learn how to slide in on your butt and you can be back in the air in a coulple of weeks. ;-) Seriously, get well in time for Ed's next get together.
