People who carry copies of Mein Kampf or the Koran, but live lives of peace, do not make up for the fact that they are followers of psychopaths. In the case of Muhammad (may he rot in hell), make that a perverted psychopath. It is a fact that ghastly crimes are all too often committed by those who do not revere perverted psychopaths. However, that does little to detract from the headline that "Follower of Perverted Psychopath Commits Ghastly Crime!"

It won't be a debate. Debate has a specific meaning, and this will not be consistent with that. Agreed. If I take enough Dramamine to stifle the nausea, I won't be awake anyway.

I thought it was the same thing.

A pundit (Buchanan?) noted that all Trump has to do is beat the point spread. There is nothing she is going to say that will bring around people who have learned to loathe her over the last quarter of a century or more. On the other hand, if he can come across as plausibly presidential at all, there will be people on the fence who will be less scared of him, and will vote for him in the hope that it will send Hillary back to the shadows. He will have to work long and hard to earn the same level of hatred as has Hillary, though I suspect he is up to the task.

Does that apply to the Bible and the Tanakh as well? You can find equally abhorrent teachings in all four. Most assuredly. Most Parsha readings by any Rabbi worth his/her salt include discussions where the Patriarch in question was Mr. Bad Example. As a family history of an amazingly dysfunctional extended family, it really covers a lot of dreadful behavior. The Christian Scriptures are probably as insidious as is the Koran from a political standpoint. For example, Rome was unable to subjugate Ireland militarily, but managed to do with whiskey and a few priests what the Legions could not. I am not recommending any other compendium of nonsense in lieu of the Koran or Mein Kampf, but single these out by virtue of their common source - a self aggrandizing psychopath. Muhammad was a world-class pervert, to boot.

Cops kill another scary looking unarmed black man
winsor replied to gowlerk's topic in Speakers Corner
I feel badly for the cop, but it was her incompetence that got this guy killed. If she had kept her finger off the trigger, flinching when the taser popped wouldn't have resulted in a fatal discharge. Lethal force, if casually applied, has dire consequences. Even a righteous shoot is bad juju, and this was far from a righteous shoot. BSBD, Winsor -
No, it's just irrelevant and counterproductive to both relations with Muslim immigrants and the investigation. Many cases in the past where even profilers came in and said to look for a specific type of person or even had an individual singled out just to discover we're barking up the wrong tree. In this case it wouldnt be barking up the wrong tree -- the attacker was clearly inspired by his religion to carry out the act. In the long run, pussyfooting around the issue is less helpful than confronting it. The attacker was inspired by Extremists/Terrorists who are Muslim, still not validation to make a test of faith for those seeking entry to the country. That what you have to confront. There are 3.3 million Muslims in the US, there are 1.6 Billion in the world. Argumentum ad Populum. I have copies of the Koran and Mein Kampf on the bookshelf in front of me at the moment; I am fine with denying entry to anyone who adheres to the teachings of either, for the exact same reasons. FWIW, Mein Kampf ("that wretched book") has more to recommend it.

Since they are on camera stealing the bag and tossing the contents (who needs another pressure cooker?), I'd go with Puerto Ricans from a stereotype standpoint. That'd make the answer "Catholic."

I think Hanlon's Razor applies to this case. You give the EPA too much credit for applied reasoning.

I've been watching the social dynamic for quite some time now, and the pattern is somewhat fixed. When people get upset about something or another and riot, nobody in their right mind will either issue a loan to rebuild or write an insurance policy for property or a business in the affected neighborhood, and the tax base goes to hell. In a neighborhood where people write letters to the editor instead of rioting cops are not nervous, insurance is relatively cheap, schools are good and so forth. Regardless of the merits of Michael Brown's demise, Ferguson, MO is doomed. Watts is still a shithole. Detroit is toast. Etc., etc.. If the social groups given to rioting wish for sympathy, it's in the dictionary somewhere between 'shit' and 'syphilis.'

Let's see. If I am making $50,000 a year, am $250,000 in debt, and spending $1,400 a month more than I am taking in, should I then get a prize for reducing my overrun to only $500 a month more than I make? Looking at the graph, I note that Obama has spent more than GWB did before the subprime bubble popped in every year except the last - and GWBs made drunken sailors look like paragons of fiscal responsibility (when drunken sailors run out of money, they usually quit spending). This goes to show why attorneys should be barred from public office. There is no math requirement for either a JD or the Bar. BSBD, Winsor

Cops kill another scary looking unarmed black man

I'm having a very hard time believing this. I've seen some sources cited in this thread, but none that support this. Where are you getting this from? The internet, of course, so it has to be true. -
You are speaking heresy. No white wine and cheese for you!

I see why you're so scared now. You think that the darn blacks have already managed to kill off over half of the decent white folk in this country. BTW, as a white man if you are murdered it is likely that your murderer will be another white man. Black people kill other black people, white people kill other white people. In general. Statistically you should more afraid of other whites than blacks. But where's the fun in that? Wrong. If you are a negro who gets murdered, it is close to guaranteed that a negro was the murderer. If you are caucasian and get murdered, it's better than even odds that a negro was the murderer. -
Read the Koran and get back to me on quite what is the difference in this case. Islam makes the followers of Charlie Manson appear thoughtful and well adjusted by comparison. Literal or incorrect interpretations or failure to understand the context of a religious text have led to many wars and human atrocities. They are also the basis of much of the morality by which we live. I'll make no claim that one is better than another just that there having been raised Muslim does not make someone a terrorist. I've been friends with, worked with, and have dated Muslims. They did not chop off my head, although the girl I dated was pretty bombing. Anyone who lives by literal interpretation of the Torah is FUBAR. It is, however, the Bronze Age family history of one seriously dysfunctional family, and your average Patriarch is a candidate for Mr. Bad Example. People outside the Tribe who use it as the basis for their traditions should have their heads examined. More modern versions of make-believe are no better. Whether it be Dianetics, the Koran or the Book of Mormon, anyone who buys any of this has something seriously wrong with them. Having said that, the Koran rather pins the meter in terms of psychotic perversion.

You're just a Buddhistophobe.

Good point. Buddhists say "allahu akhbar" all the time.

WHAT?!! I think it's completely obvious that Obama's dad, on student's income, brought his 8 1/2 month pregnant 18 year old corn fed cutie "wife" all the way back to Kenya so she could get the most modern medical care possible and a warm welcome by his other wife and the rest of the family, and returned immediately to school thereafter. How could anyone think otherwise? Who pulled the wool over Trump's eyes? It's a conspiracy, I tell ya.

Ohio police officer kills black teenager 'who drew BB gun'

Yeah, I had someone attack me with a vehicle at one point and focused on getting away. A .380 with target ammo against 6,000# of Detroit iron? You win. -

Was he using a fake lorry? Or you just enjoy throwing a little non-relevant emotion into things? Counterpoint. Fake things with implied malicious intent are interpreted as a threat. Otherwise benign things applied maliciously are a real threat. Indifference is not an emotion. -

I was present when a young man received the mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year for pointing a novelty '.45 auto' paperweight at someone. Making the threat of lethal force elicits the same response, regardless of whether a firearm is real and loaded or a non-firing replica. Pointing a water pistol at a cop looking for an armed assailant has been known to get someone shot. This situation is hardly unique. In general, initiating a firefight, with or without a working firearm, is a bad career move. BSBD, Winsor So a gun is not just a tool when even a rubber or plastic replica is considered a deadly threat. If you come at someone with a rubber hammer or a Wiffle bat as though it was the real deal, you may expect a violent response. The young man in Nice showed how a perfectly normal lorry can be used to great effect. The malice of the person making the perceived threat is the issue. -
