  3. I was in the San Juans for 3 days last week - the plan was to go to Mt. Vernon. But, the plans changed. You all would have been in Kapowsin anyway. And didn't it just rain to beat all on Sunday? All across the state. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  4. And the people who jump with me. That is all. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  5. My wife is in need of a Windows based laptop. Any suggestions? I want to keep it under $1000, have a cd/dvd burner, wireless capability. She'll be using it for the accounting and book-keeping purposes of her business and as a source of music in her shop. Memory and hard drive aren't that big an issue, considering what she'll use it for. Thanks, Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 7. Jason needs to get a real jumpsuit. That might help him some. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  8. I'm down 23 pounds since mid-Juneish. Another 5 or so and I'm good, and off the 'overweight' category on the bmi charts. I went on a biz trip and thought I would eat poorly, but managed to do okay and get a long walk in one evening. I've also been helping tear down an old hangar at our new-to-be dz, so those two days of physical exertion helped. Over all, I'm a happy dieter. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 9. Look at these two sites. There should be information and forums there where you might find some info. http://www.eslcafe.com/ www.tesol.org Good luck. Have fun. Vint . . . . . 10. I wish Deuce had read this ealier this year. My first jump was July 3rd, 1971, Deer Park, WA. I was 17. Used miltary gear - round and belly wart type stuff. Of course. Lots of layoffs and returnings. I'm almost to 600 jumps. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 11. Here are 3 old Rainier commercials. I worked on the first two - optical effects - and the third is just a funny one I've always liked. 12. I speak Russian and a bit of Spanish, and can say something in about 15 other langauges, even if it's good morning. Languages are fun. What I would want to do and I know it's been said here already is play guitar. I've taken a few lessons and bought books and tapes, but I never do anything other than strum a bit and put it away until next time. I think it would be cool to be able to play. Vint . . . . . 13. i didn't sign up for this at the beginning, because I wasn't committed to doing it. But my wife and I went on the South Beach diet three weeks ago, vegetarian version. There are three phases and you're supposed to do phase one for 2 weeks, then transition to phase two until you hit your ideal weight and then phase three is the I've-changed-my-eating-habits-maintenance phase. We've stayed on phase 1 an extra week because my wife wasn't getting the results she expected. So far I've lost 17 pounds, but I've increased my physical activity a lot with a lot of major yard work. i miss beer. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 14. I feel relieved now, knowing I'd be in such good hands at the dz should things turn to shit. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  15. I got a great prescription from my friendly nurse practitioner and intend to use it every chance I get. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  16. I think Ed likes lawyers just about as much as he likes cops. But who couldn't like you? Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  17. Jason, We were on that BFR on Saturday and you didn't share the good news? You scum CONGRATULATIONS. That might be reason to be at Prairie this year, to see you get hitched. You rock, dude. 18. Sorry for your cousin. I'm in Spokane. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. Like Ed said, if you come to Spokane, you've got a place to stay and people to run you around. 19. Something like 14 years and almost 400 credits to get a BA, then 2 more quarters to finish my teaching certificate. Had a break of about 6 years in the middle w/o any classes. Then 7 years post BA another 18 months while working f/t to get a masters. My advice to my kids and whoever will listen is to stick it out and get it done. Shoulda, woulda coulda... If I had made the same choices then as I ended up making, I could retire next year. Instead, I'm looking at another 13 years. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 20. Welcome to my world! It's what I do every day, in a high school. One thing about the Vietnamese - they have great difficulty putting an 's' on the end of words. So, plurals and he/she/it forms of the verbs (walks, talks, eats) are difficult to pronounce and to our English ear very noticeable when they mispronounce it. Here are some sites which I use and you might find something on. Look at the games sections of them - there's often something on English/language that is useful, in your case. English/Vietnamese. If you end up with some questions, let me know. http://www.eslcafe.com/ http://www.esldesk.com/index.htm http://iteslj.org/ http://a4esl.org/ Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 21. I made a buch of jumps from that plane in 76 or so- I got my first 4 way from it. I probably still have a few Fairchild tickets stashed away somewhere. Good to know Jack is still around. It's a shame about the plane, though. It was a nice plane, but Jack couldn't compete with the D-18s that were flying then. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 22. Unfortunately, the Lost Abbey one is only 1437.59 miles from my house. Sounds good, though. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  23. It was either too many tandems or the too much Ambien, Dave. It wasn't dz.com. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  24. Actually, that is exactly what I got her. Her brother has one, and she got GPS envy. She's been using a Garmin Etrex Summit for years, and when she saw the color screen and map capabilities of the 60CSx, it was love at first sight. She still hasn't figured out all the bells and whistles and is really enjoying it. Good screen in bright sunlight. It helped that there was a $50 rebate on it. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 25. My wife Geocaches and I've been out a lot with her. It actually works out well - she'll drop me off at the DZ and then head out for the day. We both get our fun that way. You might try Terracaching as well. Simlar, but the hikes tend to be a bit more intense. Multies that take all day and you hike 7-8 miles are strongly encouraged. http://www.terracaching.com/ I bought her a new GPSr for Christmas. She was most pleased. Vint . . . . .
