  1. The solar eclipse was on the 21st. Hurricane Harvey showed up on the 25th and started flooding on the 26th. Now look at the bible verse numbers and content. If it's not a prophecy, it's one helluva coincidence. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2021:25-26
  2. In all, nearly 70 percent of households were without power and 17 percent of Puerto Rico was without water, Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said on Thursday, but otherwise the island was largely unscathed. “We would like to start out thanking the Almighty,” Mr. Rosselló said. “Our prayers were answered.” They prayed for a destructive hurricane? Very odd. They prayed to be spared the worst. Simple as that.
  3. Insurance is such a goddamn racket. You pay for it, and then a disaster happens, then they won't pay for it, or nowhere near enough to cover your losses. It's one of the pitfalls of living near the coast. Do so at your own risk.
  4. I know it really doesn't make any difference, but I quit buying Exxon gas after the Valdez accident.
  5. I'll buy tickets to watch that get demolished. Maybe we can hire some Taliban to come over. They seem to love doing that shit.
  6. To no one in particular. What I find amazing is that we have scientists and mathematicians who can calculate when and where, each eclipse will occur, years and decades in advance. Yet, we cannot get the fucking airlines to figure out a fair ticket/seating system for everyone without screwing some people over.
  7. I hope they had their permits to land there!!! Where is the like button?
  8. To no one in particular, just posting at the end of this thread... I would think the best way to deal with these confederate statues that have been erected in town squares and parks in cities across the south is... move them to the nearest cemetery with confederate graves and set them up in the confederate section. Anyway, Robert E. Lee himself said after the Civil War that he didn't want any statues erected in his honor or for the Confederates. And he's right. We should have honored his wish.
  9. Well North Korea has backed off its threat to shoot missiles near Guam. Both sides are dialing back the rhetoric a little bit. However, expect it to resume next week when US forces team with South Korean forces in joint drills.
  10. Tokyo had already suffered extensive damage due to conventional bombing and the resulting firestorms. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen in no small part because they had not been targeted to that point, and so the damage from the nuclear explosions would be more obvious. In other words they were experiments as well as military targets. Please note that I do think there were valid military reasons to use the bomb under the circumstances of the time. Don Actually, the bomb raids on Tokyo were primarily incendiary. The allies saw how much of the construction was flammable (wood and paper and such) and realized that it would be easier to burn it than blow it up. They were correct in that assessment. Estimates for casualties run into 6 figures. The raid in March is generally considered to be the most destructive of all of the war (and of all time). Wiki clicky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Tokyo And as has been repeatedly been discussed, there were multiple reasons for the use of nukes. Some were directly about the war, some were about other interests. And the use of the nukes was also multi-faceted. Some of it was direct (both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were legitimate military targets), some was psychological, to induce the Japanese to surrender. I don't think it was an easy decision, but I also believe it to have been the "best of a selection of bad options" given the circumstances of the time. Agreed. War is hell. The other sumbitch is trying to kill you. What do you do? Make his ass quit, or kill him.
  11. Who knows just how rational and stable Kim Jong Un is? He's extremely pissed off for sure and believes the US is behind the latest UN sanctions that China and Russia (their lone allies) agreed to. What remains to be seen is whether he's bluffing or is actually going to carry out the plan of shooting missiles in Guam's direction. NK has been known to poke and prod their enemies to see what kind of response they get. I think we've been very restrained in the past, but of course, Trump wasn't POTUS until 6 months ago.
  12. So hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians had to be killed, burned or given radiation poisoning to send a message to Stalin and that's ok, and doesn't reflect badly on Americans as a whole. It was a horrible thing to do to be sure. But it did end WWII. Could have targeted Tokyo but Truman chose the two smaller cities instead. I sincerely hope that's the last time a city gets nuked. Which brings us to the North Korean question. Their bellicose rhetoric is rising to levels not seen before. Especially now that China and Russia both agreed to the latest UN sanctions. Word is they're drawing up plans to shoot four missiles toward Guam, but fall short into the waters, as a warning. Going to be interesting to see if they actually pull that off, and what the response is going to be from the US and Japan (who are going to be pissed at having missiles overflying their islands)
  13. Re-read my post. "It was pretty bad then". Was it the right thing to do? No, but they went with what they felt they had to do. When you're dealing with motherfuckers going "BANZAI!!!" going suicide dive bombing in their planes, you realize what they're willing to do to kill you. Radical islamists aren't much different. You speak of this as if before the war we knew they were going to start using Kamikaze pilots. I was referring to the Japanese. Just to be clear. Their end goal was to kill you and if it meant they were going to die to do it, so be it. Now tell me a radical muslim who hates America isn't going to do the same thing, albeit a different method. You think putting muslims into internment camps will result in less extremism towards the United States? LOL no. I used history as an example. We have the CIA and FBI to keep an eye on anybody they deem suspicious or have intel on. That's the best way to do it. Catch them before they act. Kill or capture them if they act.

  15. What do you realise about people willing to use WMDs against civilian populations? Better to shock a whole country into surrendering rather than have a million plus die in a brutal invasion. Besides, Russia (who we didn't trust) had to be put in their place and not get involved. We picked the lesser of two evils. It was the hardest decision Harry S Truman likely ever made.
  16. Sad news. Didn't the other blind skydiver that he jumped with years ago pass away too?

  18. Could be. Whose window do you think they meant to throw it through? Truthfully, my first thought was classroom error. Bartsdaddy makes a good point as well. Good point. Any member of the Muslim community in America is a potential fifth column terrorist. All 3.3 million of them. Its time to have the FBI put them all under surveillance. Being that we are at war with radical Islamists, you just have to keep an eye on anyone from that religion. Look at what we did to Japanese-Americans in WWII. Interned them in Japanese-American camps so we could be sure none of them would collaborate with Japan. It was pretty bad then. Fortunately we have the intelligence infrastructure in place where we can keep an eye on any suspicious activities and stop them before they carry out any plans. Not going to stop them all though. Literally impossible.
  19. Thank you for letting us know. I would eventually have been wondering why we no longer heard from him. His last post was on July 8, so I guess the timing makes sense. Not much you can do the last couple of weeks when suffering from what he had. Blue Skies Sinisa
  20. I'd agree with you. As for his time in office, well . . . . . . Jerry Baumchen He was horribly ineffective in office, but has since turned into one heck of a decent human being. Even better than Richard Nixon turned out to be, which was pretty good too. I think he was always a good person. Maybe that's what made him so ineffective in office. Nixon? Really? If not for W and Trump he would still be at the top of my bad POTUS list. I didn't say Nixon was a good POTUS. I meant that he turned out to be a pretty good statesman through the 80's. But as for Carter, yes he's a down to earth nice guy. Not the best POTUS material though.
  21. How many bodies is that now left behind on the Clinton trail?
  22. I don't know how AirBNB does business but if I were going to rent my property out via AirBNB, I'd require a security deposit that gets refunded if no damage or rule breaking is evident. Make it high enough they'll want it back. And high enough to cover damages caused (hopefully not too bad) That should keep most people renting in line.
