  1. I know Richard Branson did AFF at Netheravon about 10 years ago so he could get off his balloon should the need arise. Heard he was so flustered on his first jump he pulled the reserve instead of his toggle and absolutely hated the whole thing!
  2. Thanks. Any special licensing or alterations required on a heli before you can jump it??
  3. I am thinking of trying to organise some of these. Any special considerations I need to be aware off? Should the bird be stationary or flying forward? I was thinking of jumping from around 5,500-6,000ft. Anyone got any experience flying these for skydivers? Thanks,
  4. Don't listen - keep the bike. There's room for more than one addrenaline rush in this world. Need one on the way to and the way back from the DZ!!! I ride a GSX-R1000. Got it new back in 02. Before i got my first rig. At least with a bike you get to use it everyday!!!
  5. So put aside a few days and see what it looks like from 13k. Dudley moore eh? Sounds a bit too much like an A list celeb for Jersey. We normally get some guy that played a janitor once on a second rate daytime soap repeating on uk gold.
  6. April fools day for a birthday. Thats pretty unfair. Should have told you old dear to hold it for a day.
  7. I have a bit of a baby face and could never get served so at the tender age of 15 made my first batch of homebrew using an empty lemonade bottle. a straw, some baking yeast, and a bottle of robinsons orange juice. Tasted like shit but jesuss it worked. then moved on to wine after investing in a high alcohol tolerant yeast. Managed to make orange, coffee, rice, and robinson barley water wine. they all tasted like shit and had a habbit of blowing their corks out when bottled. I also found is you put a demijohn on a hob on low heat you can distil anything that really is undrinkable into a stronger version of its undrinkable self. Magic! Mix that with a bottle of Mars drink and hey presto 70% proof baileys. I love homebrew. Now I have a job and preffer beer that you have to drink a lot of to make yourself sick. We all grow up eventually i suppose.
  8. I'm from Jersey where the price of beer and fags means you can make some friends on the cheap! We're having a boogie in April so why not come on over. There are some places left on the plane coming from Weston and their free!
  9. Thanks for that. Trying to get a few pointers on how to get the most of the new rig and try a few new things. One other q though... "rear risers can be used to get back from a long spot " How???
  10. Hi, I have just been reading the forum about a stuck break toggle and using risers to steer out of it. I also have recently bought my first canopy (still unjumped!) which came with front riser loops. My question is this... what are the different sets of risers used for when steering. When would it be appropriate to use the front and when the rear??? And how exactly do you steer rear risers, whats the grap point?
  11. There are those that do and those that don't. Generaly (very generally please don't berate me for this it's only an observation!) it seems to me that those that came to skydiving young will smoke and drink. Those that came to it slightly older or through the military don't.
  12. Go girl! It took me 10 years and 20 jumps to get of that line so I know how it feels (ok there was a bit of a gap!) Is static line dying as the main means of progression for Student Skydiving progression. It's how I and most people I know learned and thought that was still mainly the case. Most experienced skydivers I met told me that it was the better way to learn and there was an element of looking down on the "quick fix" AFF students. I don't know why but maybe it was a money thing.... it always seemed more pronounced with those AFF students who bought an alti after jump 1 , had already got a order on for a new rig, etc....
  13. Hi all, Could anyone explain to me in layman's terms what the different is between a collapsable and other types of bridle. I guess one collapses..... Seriously do you have to pack the pilot any differently.. I was also wondering if anyone knew of a general skydiving glossary on the web.
  14. I have just ordered one of these - fantastic value. A comlete rig (teardrop / hornet 170 / tempo 170) assembled and posted from SA came in at under £2,000 and that was for a special order as I had mine made into a Union Jack. I don't know of any other manufactor that would have been so accomodating with bizarro requests, even though the design came in at an extra £200. Can't wait to get it up!
  15. Due to the number of tandem jumpers we have and a negotiated discount on landing fees. The registration fee will most likely include a refund on or free first jump. Plus the cost of a lift will most likely be reduced to £22.
  16. No. but you can have it sent to my address or your hotel and pick up whatever you've ordered when you come for the event.
  17. Come to the skydive event in Jersey and pick up some new gear VAT free! Get a cypres for £590. Of course, you would have to declare your purchases on return to the UK and I know you would because you love Gordon Brown. I know you do, he needs to pay the firemen..... PS I don't condone tax evasion.....
  18. Dear all, I am also actively looking for a tandem instructor. Have heard from quite a few people that want to do tandems and it certainly would help towards our events costs. My current thinking is that the tandem instructor would charge £200 of which £90 is retained towards costs leaving the instructor with £110. Video would be £50 extra, with £25 being retained towards costs and £25 going to the cameraman. If you know people that would be interested please ask them to get in touch through the yahoo site (see top post).
  19. About April... not the best time of year admittedly. Unfortunately we are limited by a local air navigation order to jumping between September & April, simply as a result of the increased air traffic in the summer months. Unfortunately Jersey is to small to land a plane on anything other than at the main airport so we're at their mercy.
  20. Yeah I know. Landing fees alone on each lift work out at £6 per person. Then you've got the £420 per hour for the plane. However, we've gone on the better safe than sorry approach with the caveat that if we have any cash left over it's going to be refunded or stuck behind a bar on the last night....whatever people want. I'm running a jump democracy!
