Same-Sex Marriage Amendment Fails in House
Treejumps replied to narcimund's topic in Speakers Corner
The long term problem is that coninually pushing aberations in human behavior as normal distorts the world for children. Children have enough dificulties grwoing up and going through adolesecene without having a bunch of bizarre pseudo-families shoved in their face. Two mommies? Two daddies? Gee, I wonder which mate I get along bettter with? Is this a question that young boys and girls should have to ask? Do you really believe that showing children these things will not scrrew them up? If so you are only kidding yourself. Its criminal that our schools teach chilldren about homosexuality at all. Now lets teach them that anybody can do anything with anyone. I believe that the general consensus is live and let live. I don't care what two people do amongst themselves, but trying to shove it in the face of dencent socity isn't playing out so well. Frankly I think that society has given an inch, and the gay community has taken a mile. First it was look at us "flaming gay in pink feathers" , see how we live and you must accept us this way. Then it was, well, were just like you, sort of. Now its "were just another happy family" lets us pretend were married and act like a quaint suburban couple. Gay couples are not the same, and are not equal, and nature has absolutely seen to that. Does that mean they should not be allowed to live the way they want to? No, do as you plase SO LONG AS IT DOES NOT HARM OTHERS, or society in general. In the case of gay "marriage" it absolutely damages society. -
I agree that those are very safe conditions, but for a 1st timer, it is still a more intimidating jump, there are still guyed wires to fly into after opening, and with that wind strength, a handheld PC could become an issue. I do think that you sccenario can be a very safe jump, but for a first timer, a span makes the most sense. BTW, I have put a few 1st timers off of an A. I would never do it again. One guy di dgreat, the other pitched flat on his back, and got by on luck. This was several years ago... now I know better, and I think that the community at large tends to agree. Cya.
-
Simple, buy a plane ticket. A 300' span is better than an Antenna. Its better to learn the right way than the wrong way. Cya.
-
People, this should be common sense in a time when legal daytime bridge jumps are just a drive or plane ticket away. 1st jumps should never be done from a tower, guyed or otherwise. Towers are more dangerous, and are far more intimidating than a bridge. Forget about 1st base jumps off of cliffs. ITs a stupid idea, and frankly, always has been. There are several fatalities to back this up. If you can't take the time to go to a bridge, you are going about it all wrong and probably should stick to the DZ anyhow. If your BASE "mentor", or base instructor wannabe says a first jump off of anything other than a bridge is OK, you now know that thatindividual has no business trying to teach you anything about base. THese are stupid and selfish acts, and the results are never good. At best, if you make it through OK, you will have started off with the wrong attitude towards BASE, and THAT is going to cost you in the long run. THINK!
-
I don't know what you think you are rebelling against, but your high school attitude won't get you far in BASE. WHy thumb your nose at the entire base community? While you may not be begging people to jump with you, should you decide to ever leave the warm, cozy comfort of your local area, you may want to meet other jumpers. Blazing is bad. Period. Shit does happen, but it is funny how predicably it happend here. First jump off a tower? Very bad idea. Why make things difficult for others to jump? Is that cool where you come from? Your actions can and will affect other jumpers. You can make things easier, or harder, or leave things as you found them. Which would you like done for you? I can think of many situations that resulted in objects either becoming unjumpable, or so difficult, it takes the fun out of it. Why not just be low key and cool, and be part of the solution? If you are ticking off your peers it just could be you, and not them.

Same-Sex Marriage Amendment Fails in House
Treejumps replied to narcimund's topic in Speakers Corner
*** "Honestly, I can't believe why anyone would "choose" to be gay." I think that you can replace "gay" in that sentence with any of hundreds of high risk, socially unacceptable behviours and it would still make sense. Why would anyone choose to: shoot heroin, smoke crack, jump out of planes, BASE jump, wrestle alligators, light themselves on fire, and so on. In this sesne, being gay is very similar to any high risk activity. Why WOULD anyone choose to? Attention? Be differnt? Depression? Boredom? Peer pressure? Sense of belonging? Sense of being an outsider? Who knows? If it is not a choice, then it is a genetic error meant to be worked out through natural selection. If it is chosen, then I think it is pretty easy to compare it to many other activites. Props to Avery. He is only telling you what the majority of Americans believe (despite what the media tries to tell you.) Political corectness has silenced most people from speaking theri mind, but the overwhelming support to ban gay marriage tells the real story. Cya. -
In the name of all that is good someone please PM me the names of these guys. I just have to know, given all of the hoopla going on down in NC recently. Please tell me. Please.

Bummer. Heal fast Slim. Lots a strange happenings in the field lately. There is a tree near our local tower missing some large limbs after a funny opening last friday. There is also a bruised up and sore jumper, but he will heal, but those limbs won't grow back. Weird things happen sometimes, when they do we get hurt. Be careful everyone. What was Slim's gear setup? Anyone know?
-
I can't really think of how the floting pin could cause a hesitation, other than the bridle pulls through the loose pin, and then forms an angle against the pin cover flap, incresing resistance until the top rin pulls and the container opens. I know that with a standard attached pin setup that the bottom pin pulls then the top pulls, and the bridle in between allows a little snatch to pull top one. It just seems strange that there would be a hesitation. My advice: Have your pins attached. No drawbacks to having them sewn on.

Well said. Perhaps the issue here is that these guys never see b-12s, other than on student gear. Maybe if they knew that b-12s were pretty much standard on ALL gear before 15 or 20 years ago, then they would understand. A little understanding of the sport's (gear) history goes a long way. B-12s do not inadvertantly release, despite whatever you have heard, or "think" you saw.
-
I stand in strong disagreement with the floating pin. No one has managed a good reson as to why it exisits. I think it is an added complication with no return of value. If you are in the mid atlantic and would like you pin permanently attached, I would be happy to sew it on at no charge. Tree

Ken, Quit whining, unless you are being humorously sarcatic. By any definition advertising would have to offer a product or service for sale, or other exchange of value. Clearly this is not the intention since it is free. At worst, this is an "event" and would be allowed at the very least in the events section of the site, but any reasonable person could figure out that it belongs in the base zone. Besides, as Tom pointed out, you can advertise sour grapes for sale on Blinc! Seriously, why would you try to compare?

Make it back or survive the gusts?

I would like to know what DZ would let A license jumpers go up in 40 MPH winds? There are not harsh enough words for the stupidity of going up in those conditions. Once you are in them, you are going to get by only on luck, as you have shown very clearly that you posess no skill or jugement. WOW, with 80 whole jumps you would think that you would know by now that you will get back further using your rear risers, not your brakes. *** "we were told winds were west" You might want to actually check these things out for yourself. Thats what a skilled and proficient jumper does. Smae with spotting. Maybe look down once in a while between high fiving your buddies and talking about how cool you are. -
Same-Sex Marriage Amendment Fails in House
Treejumps replied to narcimund's topic in Speakers Corner
LJ, Not that you seem to care what others think, but since the majority of Americans don't consider it marriage in the first place, what is the point? If it doesn't bother you what others think, why the concern over a label such as "marriage"? I don't consider it a marriage, but why would anyone involved in it care what I think? You are safe in OR, as that is the only state where a ban on same sex "marriage" is not likely, and frankly it is a waste of our legislative branch to bother with this. . Mostly it just seems like another "shove in the face" of the majority by the small minority. You are always free to do what you want, as it doesn't affect me at all. When you go out of your way to try to affect others with your actions, the results are what is happening with this issue. Carry on. -
How does one slam in to a tree?
Treejumps replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It is not stupidity it is called object fixation. Don't laugh too hard, you are far from out of the woods in regards to falling prey to this. Yes, students are under extreme stress. How hard could it be for you to remember, since you are basically stilll a student yourself? THe fact that you didn't kno0w "why" or "how" that could happen is precisely why it can still ahppen to you. -
L bar has been an option with several rig manufactureres for many years. Most will also make a non-removable riser that is a part of the harness, similar to a reserve canopy riser. Its a great idea until you need to cut away. (water, trees, clining to a cliff with heli rotors spinning).

If Star Wars is our cultural history, the USA is in much worse shape than I thought. Star Wars was junk when I saw it first at 7 years old, and every sequel since then has been an equally poorly written movie with lame effects. Cya.

Quote: "Because we're all Americans and we all deserve to be healthy if possible and not have our basic healthcare limited by our income". That is very a socialistic idea. Nowhere in the constitution, or any other governing document do I see anyhing that says we deserve to be healthy, or have a right to medical care. Besides, why should some people work hard to pay for theri own health care and the health care of others?
-
I'm about fed up with the state of politics, but maybe thats just what they ALL want from us so that they can ALL stay in power. Now about the cost of healthcare. If you can pay for health coverage health care is reasonable, and the care you receive is better in the US than anywhere on Earth. The problem, they say, is that "it" costs too much, and that there are 41 million people without insurance. The only way to bring down the cost is for someone to give up something. Are doctors going to start working for less? No, and for the most part they should not have too. It costs a fortune to get a medical degree and they deserve to live a good life. So where will the cost savings come from? Yes, I know that some 30% of health dollars go to admin, but even at 10% to admin, good health care costs good money. So now what do we do with those 41 million uninsured? Why should I have to pay for my insurance and theirs? Why should the gov't (all of us) pay the $80 billion a year to cover their insurance? We live in a capitalist society, and health coverage is available and affordable to those who make it a priority. We already spend billions on helath care for the poor through Medicaid. So what are everyones ideas on this? THe Democrats currently claim that its the Big Pharma companies fault. (I agree that the US is getting screwed on Rx). The republicans say its the lawyers excessive lawsuits and (outrageous) settelements). There is no question the lawyers need reeled in. Here is your chance, solve the country's problem. Cya.

I'm a slim and trim 240 pounder. I've jumped Mojo 280s & 310s, and Fox 285s, all without problem. When you get to the larger sizes there are efficiencies of flight. The standard wingloading of .6 to .8 are not usually possible for larger jumpers, and don't seem to apply equally. You would want to be a very proficient canopy pilot in this weight range as heavier people bounce harder when landings go bad. Also, at lower altitudes (sub 300) consider that your canopy weighs as much as 40% more than the little guy's with the same PC. Good luck. I've also jumped 260's on easier objects and my 1st was on a Fury (220).

Well Acro, We'll add geography to the list of things that you are in need of remedial education, including spelling and grammar. I work at XKeys and am there every weekend that the skies are blue. As a Pro qualified PST competitor I know for a fact you are not a P.S.T jumper, unless that is the Poor Spelling Tour. You talk endless smack. You make up your jump numbers, you ask very stupid questions, and your attitude about learning is a joke. If you actually are a skydiver, I suggest that you find somone who would be willing to help you keep from killing or maiming yourself. -

I would love to know what DZ you made these hundreds of jumps at in the last few months. You must be the hardest jumping guy there. Anyone seen this guy put a rig on anywhere? -

Quote: "man it's true I remember being at 400+ jumps " As I recall, that was about a week ago until you changed your profile and like majic, you had 1000. You and Variant would make great friends. How about Team Auger?
