I have a design I am working on that will allow you to clear a slider down line over and still control the sterring line. Its actually quite simple, but would anyone be interested in it? I also think that many more people get hurt landing canopies on rears, or 1 toggle 1 riser. than due to line overs.

You are right, I don't define BASE, that is for sure; But I know it when I see it. Take PDX a few years ago for example, they defined what a base scene was. I don't live in either place, but having been around for a while, and having eyes and ears, I can see and hear whats going on. The road is long so a short sighted map will not get you there.

Hey whats up John, A friend of mine came through your hood recently and had good things to say about you and your hospitality. That makes you OK in my book, but I do think that the general attitude in SC towards base is at best marginal. The whole sonic beef skydiver thing is cute and all that, but I see a lot of skydiver mentality on the beef web page that does not really mesh to well with BASE ettiquette. I'm not telling you how to do your thing, but there has been a lot of problems in your neck of the woods, and most of it has to do with newbies teaching newbies teaching newbies, and little regard to BASE ethics. Everyone effects everyone else in this sport. If somebody is fucking things up in your hood, you just may have to set things straight. John, for better or worse (my buddy says for better) you are a lead guy down there. You set the tone for many. If you don't push the idea of being stealth, preserving sites, and the like, others will follow your lead. To start with, a giant "Were loud, obnoxious drunk, boisterous skydiver/ basejumpers" web site isn't really the base way. We've had similar potential problems around Maryland, and yes, we pretty much threatened people's health, well being, and gear if they were to do somehting really stupid. We are self policing, so if people aren't doing right by you and yours, fix it. I'd be happy to share a jump with you, if there is anything left to jump down there in the future. Tree

New competition circuit...
Treejumps replied to SlatonAirSports's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
*** "to put together my newest competition circuit" Frankly, I think what Chris hayes is doing in Florida should be the new template for a National's Qualification canopy flight circuit. It has proven it's self, is low stress, and is would not be "owned" by anyone. It should be like any other discipline sanctioned by USPA, for the jumpers and by the jumpers. There were many good things about PST, but also a couple major things I didn't like. First and foremost was the sudden release of the "Freestyle Posse" (freestyle rounds) early in 2004, only a few months before the first comp. However, it was very apparent that many of the sponsored pro teams had been practicing these moves all winter, mabye before, but clearly had inside info that Freestyle was coming. As if these guys needed an additional competitive edge over weekend worriors like me. The last thing swooping needs is another "owned" comp circuit. Let the USPA sanction it, let the people run it, but let them run it for themselves, and then every swooper will have a FAIR shot at going to nationals. If the Pro Tour was ever going to be televised or make any money, (just like skysurfing didn't), it would have happened by now. There just isn't enough viewership, and there never will. John Q Public could care less about skyjumpers. That being said, keep up the good work with PST, as it seems to be a good vehicle for you, and the other 15 or 20 sponsored pro swoopers. But leave the Nationals circuit to those who are interested in fair playing fields and good natured swoop competition, for the good of all. Its tough enough for swoopers to get started competing. -
I've got at least a dozen PCAs from 240' and one freefall from 240', all on a Mojo 310. Plenty of altitude to land fine. Must be a dodgy canopy. Cya

I thought that you were dead. Glad to see you walking.
-
I don't think that your heli pilot will want you hanging around with a PC in hand. Bad ju-ju. If you are so aorried that you won't be stable, then don't do it slider down. Practice slider up, stowed, from a reasonable altitude. Once you are solid, then try something new. I still say don't even mess with slider down from a heli. If you are so frail that you are worried about your body/health from the shock of slider down openings, it is probably best to not consider BASE. The opening shock is the least of the problems. Good luck

BTW, There are BASE jumpers all over LA.

If you are only 255#, why do you jump military surplus? I would hope you could stand up a near 400' main. Do you want a cookie? BTW, most jumpers with 200 jumps know exactly Zero about gear, so while it is admirable that you do your research, it does not make you a gear expert. You can accuse be of being a BASE god, but I'm not talking about your base aspirations. I'm talking about the fact that you choose to jump outdated gear that was designed for other applications. Then you want to jump it off an Antenna. Then you want to know about sewing machines to sew who knows what. SLOW DOWN and actually learn to SKYDIVE. You know, actually make some jumps. Actually learn to FLY your body, and even learn to land a human sized canopy. I've seen you spend an inordinate amount of time trying to avoid regular sport gear, yet you would fit into any sport mfgd. gear. You go about things in a very unusual manner, and frankly, in this sport, that kind of shit will get you hurt or killed. Think what you want, but when you've only been around 10 minutes and you are asking some of the stupid questions you ask, you stick out like a sore thumb as a hole waiting to happen. Later.

Don't screw up my teasing Yuri with spelling issues! Now that you've done it, I'll explain for the short bus crowd. Yuri was in Skydiving under "Maybe You've Heard" regarding him hitting 1000. The spellign of the name was so far off, I decided to make fun. There, happy? Can't have any fun aorund here. Dammit!

First off, what are you doing thinking about jumping off of anything? You have 42 jumps, and spend a fair amount of time worrying about how to jump sub par gear in skydivng. You need a LOT more experience before you even consider BASE. You also need to get into some kind of shape so that you can jump standard gear. The life span of an oversized, fat, out of shape base jumper on shit surplus gear is going to be short. To improve these poor odds, learn to skydive and how to fly a parachute very well. Regarding your junk gear off a 1750' A. If you were an experienced jumper who could reliably exit stable and track away, and reliably take at least 8 to 10 second dalays, then jumping that kind of gear would be "marginally" OK. For a low time skydiver who is out of shape, overweight, with minimal skydiving experience, it would be a stupid move, and at best you would be getting by with luck. Would you put a tail pocket on it, or would you just jump it bagged? You must crawl before you walk, grasshopper.

Hey Brick, No, it would be a very shitty BASE canopy. I'm 250#, and it hurts quite a bit more when you hit hard. Frankly, anything above the currently available large sizes (310 Ace, 293 Flik, and 313 Troll) would not give you much additioanl safety. While we can scale and build anything, it does not mean it will open, fly, or land well. There are efficiencies of the larger sizes that make them good options for you. You should have no problem jumping and landing a 310. If you do not feel you have the skills to fly and land a 310 under duress and in difficult terrain and conditions, you should not be considering BASE at all. You must be an excellent canopy pilot with very quick reactions and good decision making skills. Test jump the large sizes and decide for yourself. Anything larger would not be a very good idea. I look into a 330 several years ago and it was deemed a bad idea by Adam at CR. Big jumper = big dent in ground

Dear Yuri, I think all of the years of partying and jumping have melted your brain. You can't even spell your name correctly. It was published in Skydiving as "Kounetsov" when they mentioned you, as the Godfather of Russian BASE, hitting your 1000 BASE jump. Clearly they got it right, as how could they fuck up something as simple as spelling your name corectly while giving you major props on your accomplishment. But down the pipe and bottle, and very soon you will remember that it is not "Kuznetsov", as you wrote, but that it is "Kounetsov". I really think that you need this long vacation coming up. Cya.

Whats the fallrate of a pumpkin?
Treejumps replied to bch7773's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have docked on a pumpkin head down. It is obviously very size dependent, but I would expect it to be at least a fast belly speed. -
Quote: "From my observations through the years, I think on occasion it just takes a while for the air molecules to work their way into the collapsed mesh and subsequently into the canopy part of the PC." Hi Johnny, Just to avoid any confusion about PCs, they do not inflate by capturing air inside the PC. Let me repeat this, as to be 100% clear: Pilot chutes do not capture air to inflate. A pilot chute generates lift exactly as a ram air canopy does, by having the air flow over the wing (around the round canopy). There are many reserve pilot chutes that use no mesh, but simply use F-111 where mesh normally is, and they inflate just fine. The mesh may improve some performance aspects, and it may take away others, but a PC is not a air capturing device. Otherwise, I agree with what you posted. The PC delay appeared to be casued by simply releasing the PC instead of throwing it. Cya.

*** "donut left in the middle of the road etc" Skin, that was mean. By mean I mean that I can't stop laughing and it is cruel to inflict that kind of torture on me.
-
THat is exactly what oscillation looks like. This a perfect example of poor gear setups that could kill or hurt you. The hesitation was likely caused by simply dropping the PC instead of throwing it. The oscilaation can be a number of things including 1. Poorly made PC. 2. Poorly maintained or overused PC 3. Incorrectly rigged gear- PC hooked up off center. Unless the PC/bridle larks head is grossly lopsided, that PC should be discarded. On a cliff that is all it takes to die. Basically you had shit gear being jumped at the only place you can get away with it.

WOW, Dj Associates has incredible prices on hardware. Thanks for the info.

If you want to solve a problem you got to nip it in the bud. This isn't personal, it is financial. If the gov't will pay for stupid people to sit around, fuck, and create more of the same, why won't they pay me to smoke crack and push it on my friends so that they in turn will sit aorund and do nothing but smoke crack. I believe in everyone's freedom to do anything that they want to, so long as they can pay for it. Simply reproducing might be a god given right, but supporting that kid should be part of the equation. If you are so stupid, lazy and/or useless that you cannot support yourself, and the kid, you have no right to have a kid. Its very simple. If you are on welfare and cannot support yourself, you cannot support (or properly raise or educate) a child. A simple look at the inner city of every major city in the US, or the bumfuck sticks of wherever is all the proof we need. There are plenty of people having children who can pay there own way, why should they have to pay for themselves and others who cannot?

Nice logo Gardner! Instead of the Huck-It, WEll call it the Fucl-It! Do I have to pay to use that logo?

*** If you knew a woman who had a total of 8 children, several who had died shortly after birth, and she had tuberculosis, would you mandate she take birth control? And this has what to do with the topic at hand? If she were on welfare, and I (the working taxpayers) had to support her, then YES. But I still don't understand what her previous births and sore throat have to do with it. Stick to the topic, or at least quit trying to draw out sympathy for one set of issues to cloud the validity of another. Is that a lawyers trick they taught you in lawschool?
-
Hi Quade, I agree, so long as I do not have to pay for it. A person's right to reproduce ends at the point at which they cannot pay for their offspring. Why do you beleive that people have the right to create others that they obviously have no means to support or any ability to raise?
-
Hello all, Does anyone have any ideas on raw material suppliers for webbing, tapes, cordura etc? I order regularly from Paragear, but frankly, they mostly don't seem to be very customer service oriented. Maybe if I was ordering huge quantities it would be different, but they make me feel as if they are doing me a favor. I've searched and searched for webbing manufacturers, but can't seem to find anything. Got any secret vendors you would be willing to share? Thanks.

I think that preventing births who will be supported only by the gov't (me, and other tax paying citiznes) is a far cry from exterminating an entire faith of people. In fact, I don't see any similarites. I am not singleing out any group based on anything other than their inablity to support themselves, and hence, their complete inablitly to raise, pay for, feed, and educate another. Frankly, how does one have anything to do with another, other than because you brought it up to distract others from seeing the proposal and problem for what it really is. This is not race based, an in fact it is completely color blind. If you get a welfare check, you are not allowed to make another welfare sucking human being. Simple. If you can't pay for your offspring, you should not be allowed to reproduce. Thre is nothing that says you have the right to reproduce at the expense of others. Why should stupid people be encouraged to reproduce? Anything you subsidize, you will get more of. Let Darwin have his way. If people who are too dumb or too lazy to pay for their own way, so be it, but don't pay them to create more of the same. This is the only way the US is ever going to be sustainable in the long run. At the rate we are running in 50 years there will be 3 welfare recipients for every working stiff to support. DO you want to pay for 3 people to sit around and do nothing but crete more people for your children to support? I am completely serious becasue the problem is completely serious. If we don't stop createing more of the problem now, treating the symptoms in the future is going to overwhelm us. When that happens, there will be all out socio-economic war, where the people who work are going to refuse to support the welfare nation, and then what? This is not an if, but a when. Do any of you have a better idea?
-
Well the election is over but the biggest problem in America is not going away, and it really was not addressed. All of the politics in this country focus on the symptoms of our biggest problem, not the root cause. Nearly every major issue in this country can be attributed to stupid people who are unable to even take care of themselves, reproducing. They reproduce at a rate far higher than educated people who can properly raise and support their offspring. Crime, welfare, health care costs, you name it, and it is caused in whole, or at least partially by this constantly renewable problem. Fortunately, the solution is simple. If you are supported by the government through welfare, man or women, you must be Norplanted, or whatever other BC can be used to guarantee you can't reproduce. It will take a few years but the cost savings both in social and financial terms would be staggering. Think how many babies are created each year with only the government to take care of them. Think of what happens to these kids; they are almost always poorly rasied, far more likely to become criminals, they suck up gov't services and resources (your tax dollars) at an alarming rate, and then, to top it all off, in 15 or so year they create more of the same. When will we take a stand and really address this problem? Everything else is just a symptom of this problem. This is my platform for my presidential run in 08'. Please support the ONLY solution. Thank you.
