Please explain why the balloon would be in descent. First of all a ballon is virtually always in a slight descent unless you have just heated it. When your weight leaves the balloon it suddenly has a lot more buoyancy. It will suddenly rise up causing the balloon's evelope to distort significantly. This can be catastrophic if multiple jumpers left at the same time and the balloon had just been heated. Most balloon pilots will put the balloon into a rapid (even terminal) descent prior to letting jumpers exit. Once the jumpers exit, then the balloon stabilizes and either continues a slight descent or ascends slightly. The key is to avoid a rapid ascent that can cause problems.

Don't forget that the balloon will be in a descent itself when you exit. You will be losing altitude.

Fitting bigger canopy in a small container

Just put it in a paper grocery bag and do a hop & pop. -
Call 1-800-SKY-RIDE. I think they offer balloon rides.

Newbie gear questions come up several times a month if not week. Couldn't one or two of the better threads on the subject be made sticky?

Flexon with Sabre170 or Prestige With Jedei 170?
freakflyer9999 replied to Portuguese77's topic in Gear and Rigging
The Prestige is an orphan container. The manufacturer has sold all assets and the new owner destroyed the patterns. If you should need a freebag you would have to find one on the used market. -

First let me say that you can skydive at your current weight. It takes gear that most dropzones don't have, but there are DZs out there that can accomodate you. Of course there are a couple that charge even their experienced jumpers a fat fee for every jump. Just ignore those that don't want to help and keep looking. I personally found that skydiving was motivation enough to lose 80+ pounds when I first started jumping. I stayed out of the sport for a number of years and put all of the weight + some back on, so when I returned to the sport last year I needed to lose weight. Once again I found that skydiving was the motivation I needed and I've lost 60+ lbs since last summer. There is not a secret to weight loss. Everyone knows how to lose weight. YOU PUT IN LESS THAN YOU TAKE OUT! I have found that for me, weight loss is a state of mind. I have to be motivated and give it conscious thought throughout my day. Blue Skies

I came across a great deal on American Flags for an upcoming Memorial Day demo. Thought I'd pass it on for others that might be interested. http://www.united-states-flag.com/googlespecials.html I just bought a couple of 6 X 10 2 ply polyester flags for $49.95 each and they have a special going with free shipping. Nylon flags are even cheaper. Of course now I'll owe beer for my first flag jump. Blue Skies

I doubt that you will find a set of instructions that covers your specific setup. Take it to a Master Rigger who can examine your pilot chute to determine the best way to attach the Monkey Fist. My rigger, John Storrie, did it in less than 5 mins.

You're lucky to have even survived your accident. Just cool it until you're back at 100%.

Mini war story. Sad ending ... for my SHOE
freakflyer9999 replied to efs4ever's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Must have been a bad week for North Texas shoes. Jack Pylan lost a shoe over Skydive Cowtown south of Decatur. He was doing a tandem and on the video you can see the shoe trying to hang on during the exit, but it just didn't make it. Blue Skies -
Manual for Para-Flite Swift Container
freakflyer9999 replied to freakflyer9999's topic in Gear and Rigging
I couldn't find anything on-line for this container. Does anyone have a manual or know where I might find one? Blue Skies -

Christian Skydivers...
freakflyer9999 replied to justaflygirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Now why would a bunch of Christians be the group that's having the least fun? Our head dude, JC, is the one who turns water into the best wine after all the guests have already gotten drunk on the cheap stuff. Also, one of his last commands to us was to drink wine and remember him when we do. So drink up. -
I have the $29 one from Walmart. I can't tell the difference between the Latte's I make at home and Starbucks.

It happens all the time. Happened to me on two jumps in a row last weekend. Of course the cloud put out the fire, so no problem.

Drop a penny and a sheet of paper at the same time. Which one hits the floor first? Now strap on some weight to the sheet of paper and drop the two simultaneously. You might have to experiment with a couple of different weights, but you should be able to find a weight that makes both items hit the floor at the same time.

I learned to pack with two others in my class. We had done two or three supervised pack jobs when the instructor handed us his personal rig and went to brief an AFF student. Thirty minutes later our packing instructor came back into the room, asked a couple of questions and then picked up our first unassisted/unsupervised pack job and headed to the airplane. He lived.

Nice to meet you all...(Newbie Gear Question)
freakflyer9999 replied to skyyd1ve's topic in Gear and Rigging
And as mentioned in another current thread, don't forget to add any weights that you will need to wear in order to do Relative Work with other jumpers. -
After reading the 2/16/2005 Skydive Arizona fatality report I had this same thought. Most all of the relevant information was presented in an easy to read format. A form to standardize would also make it easier to search and coorelate incidents over time.

There was one at Quincy 97 that made a few loads. It was turning loads faster than Mullin's Kingair.

I posted a "wanted" ad for a jumpsuit a few weeks ago. I had a response within a day for a jumpsuit that I ended up buying.
