  1. Agreed. Skyride is not honest. Their basic marketing premise isn't wrong though. Create a nationwide marketing presence to support small businesses that couldn't possibly market themselves in such a way. Based on the info that has been presented in this thread, it is obvious that Skyride goes beyond just standard marketing. Perhaps though someone could create a marketing business that sells skydiving gift certificates for those who want to give a skydive as a gift. Advertise in a few major newspapers around the country and create an internet site that will show up in searches like DZ.com. On the internet site sell gift certificates that are accepted at participating DZ's. The customer prints their own gift certificate after providing payment info. The DZ verifies the certificate via the internet site as well. Add a search criteria to the DZ.com locator that allows visitors to find DZ's that accept the certificates before they buy. Then when the DZ accepts the certificate, he gives the customer the face value of the certificate and is reimbursed at a discounted rate by the certificate issuer. The discount rate becomes the issuers revenue, from which they pay advertising expenses, credit card fees, etc. The issuer could even tack on a small ($5-10) service charge when selling the certificate to defray costs as well. How about it Sangiro? Want to start a side business?
  2. SD Texas was directly under the North West approach into DFW. Believe me I know personally and upclose. Missed an American Eagle flight by about 1-200 yards one day.
  3. There has been a DZ at Caddo Mills for quite some time. They are east of DFW.
  4. I don't agree with their fraudulent practices, but Skyride does Advertise. I see their ad in my local newspaper everyday. If Skyride would refrain from stealing other people's property and their other various fraudulent practices, their basic marketing premise is a good one.
  5. My wife's truck had a similar visitor. He ate numerous holes in the tubing for the windshield washers. We now keep a box of mouse poison up under the hood.
  6. I talked a co-worker into taking the first jump course with me. We were both immediately hooked and continued to jump as we became close friends. He died Jan 16, 1999 doing the only thing I ever saw give him life. Blue Skies Black Death
  7. Yesterday we had northerly winds aloft of 50+ knots with a southerly 0-10 knots on the ground. The change seemed to be about 3000' agl. Then of course the uppers shifted during the day. Made for a couple of interesting spots, but we only had one camera guy land off and I think that he hummed it low.
  8. Pick up the phone and call a professional to help. Don't put it off. Scary thoughts are not OK! Grief is a very predictable cycle. Understanding it can often make the process easier.
  9. Yes, they have a website. The DZ hasn't been open long enough to be in the Yellow Pages. Google returns their DZ.com profile as the 6th response. Of course SoaringSports.com aka Skyride is the first response. Word of mouth will eventually help since all Skyride customers are told that they and their friends can cut out the middle man at a significant savings by calling the DZ directly.
  10. Yes, at the moment Skyride is their primary marketing. It takes time to get marketing and word of mouth going. They are a fresh start-up and Skyride is helping to grow their business.
  11. JRock merely posed a question. I have a question of my own...of the people posting here... Does your drop zone accept skyride certificates? Mine does not. My DZ does accept the Skyride Certificates. I have asked that the DZO and his wife read this thread and educate themselves on the Skyride situation. They have done so, but continue to accept the certificates, because at the moment virtually 100% of their Tandem business is coming from Skyride. Without Skyride they would not have any tandem business at the moment and the few experienced jumpers that they currently have aren't enough to support the operation. Hopefully as the operation grows and their business from other sources grows, they will be able to wean themselves from Skyride if they so choose.
  12. I have 4 laptops and 4 desktops that are actually running on my network. I have 10-20 laptops in various states of disrepair and about a dozen other systems that would probably power up if I wanted. I keep intending to have a garage sale. Just never seem to get around to it. My garage has storage containers stacked around two walls with various computer parts, tape drives, disk drives, power supplies, power cable, network cables, routers, swithces, etc., etc., etc.
  13. When you actually get it, look at the postmark and let us know whether he/she shipped it when you were told.
  14. Yea, It is in between Decatur and Rhome, just off of Highway 287. http://www.skydivecowtown.com
  15. I bought some goggles from him. When he finally replied to my 2nd email, he made some excuse about being out of town and then lied about the ship date. When I received the package, the ship date on the package was the same day as our email exchange. Once I actually received the goggles, they were just as advertised, but he is very poor at communication and seemed to think that he had to lie about when he shipped the goods.
  16. I cut off my right pinky and ring finger once. Picked up the hand and looked at it, then promptly passed out. I woke up in the doctor's office with a nurse cleaning the end of my fingers and promptly passed out again. Next thing I remember I had a splint on both fingers and was at home.
  17. Try this site http://mypage.bluewin.ch/aviationworld/pc6/index.htm
  18. The old FXC's can fire as high as 2500'. I watched in amazement one day as a whole load of students got off of the Porter at Skydive Texas, with their reserve pilot chutes in their hands. The pilot and the jumpmaster didn't properly communicate prior to the airplane descending. Old FXC's are easy to turn off though. The control was mounted externally and just required a turn of the knob to disarm.
  19. I'll second that. I bought a container and a canopy from Glen. The harness didn't fit, but Glen gladly took care of it for me.
  20. What are your recommendations for slowing down a Falcon?
  21. Obviously, when you go to a new DZ, you have something in common with virtually everyone there. It is pretty easy to start up a conversation, about the color of someones jumpsuit/rig or something else skydiving related. I have found that manifest can be very helpful as well. Ask manifest to introduce you to someone who might want to jump with you. They will know who has similar experience levels and which disciplines the various jumpers are into. A great DZ will automatically introduce you to folks to jump with. I've been to Skydive Temple in Salado, TX about 3 or 4 times. The DZO, Rich, never fails to pair me up with another jumper to show me around and to make a few jumps with. I prefer jumping at smaller DZs, but large ones that are run right can be just as great. I once spent a week in Florida and jumped at 5 different DZs. They were all good, but Lake Wales was by far the friendliest. If you are ever in North Texas, let me know and we can make a jump or two together.
