Chopping your canopy
freakflyer9999 replied to mikewdiggler's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Out of 4 chops, I've lost one freebag. I did have a main land near a major highway where a couple stopped to "help" about the time one of our DZ jumpers pulled up behind him and thanked him for his assistance. I was landing about 100 feet away at the time, so I don't know whether he would have taken my main or not. -
I just got current a couple of weeks ago after a 1 year layoff. The DZO introduced me to his instructor and suggested that I pay his slot for my recurrency jump as well as buy him another jump ticket for the time he spent with me going over emergency procedures, etc. So basically it cost me 3 slots, mine and 2 for the instructor. Money well spent.

Would you pay 23 million euros for a trip to space....
freakflyer9999 replied to Ripsmacker181's topic in The Bonfire
And this way it will leave some cozy bank to find its way into the economy of those people involved in the space industry. Those employees will feed their families and spend the money in their local economies where others will in turn do the same. Or it could just continue to sit in some mutual fund some where. I would go in an instant, if I had the money. A few years ago, I did some contract work at NASA. One of their engineers told me that there are definite plans to make space tourism affordable within my lifetime. -
stolen log book, what can I do
freakflyer9999 replied to davidpanal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After a year layoff from the sport I got myself back in the air this past weekend at Caddo Mills, TX. The DZ never asked for my license. All they wanted to see was my logbook. Of course they are not a USPA group member and do not require USPA membership, therefore, they rely on the logbook rather than the license. -
Hey Doc. I have a PC manual you can have the next time I see ya. I heard you were going to be at Gainesville this weekend, so if I don't get my layoff notice Friday, I'll be there on Sat. Kenny G.

Skydive Umatilla, Florida
freakflyer9999 replied to CaptFrank2001's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I only jumped there once, but Umatilla was my favorite DZ anywhere. The scenery from altitude was fantastic and the people were extremely friendly. And they could spot too. It was cloudy and raining off and on the day I was there. They would spot a hole in the clouds in the distance, load up the caravan, climb to altitude and the hole would be right over the DZ every jump. -
If there are any clouds on the way up, be sure to make a mental note of the altitude of the base of those clouds. This makes a great visual reference as well.

Lake Wales and Collegiate Nationals
freakflyer9999 replied to katseyes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is a shame. I visited Lake Wales once in the mid 90's. I've said ever since that it was the friendliest DZ of all the ones I have visited. The staff and local jumpers bent over backwards and were extremely friendly. -

I have Cingular, so I don't need the phone, but I'd love a ride in the airplane. I live right down the road in Weatherford.

One of the two on the list that I've ever met personally is Ed Duncan D-37 (37 TX Duncan/Edmond C). I noticed that there is another Ed Duncan D-53 (53 CA Duncan, Edmond C.) on the list. Does anyone know if Ed received two D numbers or is it coincidence or ? FYI. Ed D-37 is still jumping. I made a jump with him last summer.

I made 5 jumps one day with a cold. After the first 2 jumps my ears cleared when I got to the ground. After the 3rd jump my right ear didn't clear at all. I lost nearly 100% of my hearing in my right ear for 2 weeks. Then I only regained 25-35%. This condition lasted for nearly 2 years. Then about a week before my appointment to get a hearing aid it popped and I regained nearly all of my hearing. Bottomline, it isn't worth it. Wait until you've cleared up and can enjoy it.

I had a buddy who was a member of the Museum and had made arrangements to jump it until they blew an engine. They were willing to let a few of us go up on their way to a show and let us out over Granbury or another suitable location. They had the plane at the Carswell Airshow a few weeks ago, but I didn't talk to anyone about jumping it. My buddy moved to NJ and isn't associated with the organization anymore, so I don't know anyone there anymore.

Call it a day after a cut away?
freakflyer9999 replied to AEsco48's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 4 cut aways and I've jumped again on the same day on two of them. After the two that I didn't jump, I couldn't find my freebag on one and it was too late in the day for the other one. -
Just don't send it back.

When was your first Off DZ Landing
freakflyer9999 replied to adventurechick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first off DZ landing was at WFFC 97 in Quincy. A couple of us, who were last out of the CASA, landed about a mile away from the DZ. Fortunately a nice local couple who were out watching all the skydivers, saw us land. They stopped at the farm house to ask permission to come get us and then drove through the pasture and picked us up at a cross fence that they couldn't get through. They then proceeded to take us all the way to our tent. Of course this got them free admission to WFFC and a much closer look at all of the skydivers without having to pay for and ride the whuffo wagon. I haven't been to WFFC since, but the locals were extremely nice that year. -
Need a Photo of a Hanging Exit from Cessna
freakflyer9999 replied to freakflyer9999's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It might work. I was really thinking about a hanging strut exit. I'll let my pastor decide. It's her sermon. Thanks -
Need a Photo of a Hanging Exit from Cessna
freakflyer9999 replied to freakflyer9999's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My pastor asked if I could find a photo of a hanging exit for use as an illustration with a sermon on decision making. I found a couple here on DZ.com, but none that were just a standard hanging exit, preferably with the jumper looking back at the camera. A scared shitless expression would be great too. Would need a decent resolution in order to project it on a 12'x12' screen. -

How far will DZO go in insulting you?
freakflyer9999 replied to matereti's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm curious, Why do you have to bring your dogs to the DZ? I've personally never taken my dog anywhere besides PetsMart, the Vets office or bird hunting when I had a Brittany Spaniel. I just can't imagine a reason that I would "HAVE" to take my dogs to the DZ. I guess if they needed medication every few hours for the rest of their life, I might consider it but I would probably just arrange for someone else to care for them if at all possible. My mother had a dog like this. She had to make sure that she was taken care of 24/7.
